Cycling the Loire (Part 3) – Saumur to Orleans
Cycling the Lir. This is the last part, part three. And it goes from Somur to Oleon. But before we got back to Oon, from the caves of Som, we passed through to Omba, Bla, and Bjoni. And we finished part two at these caves just to the east of Sour. and they were a real highlight of the whole Lua trip for us. Not to be missed. Week three for us started in some serious sunshine. It was a total delight and to be honest, rather typical. The exit from the caves led us up onto the plane where there were lots and lots of vineyards. Q lost in France music. But it wasn’t long before we were brought back down to the land of troglodite at the river’s edge. And this was the rather plain shadow at Monso. For continental riding in the sun, I do like to wear a white shirt with collar and long sleeves just for personal protection and light airiness. The girls spotted a rather grand shadow at the end of this long road. So, we made a quick detour down and it turned out to be chatau. Do you say it was definitely worth the small detour, but again, best observed from the sky. I’m starting to understand why the peasants revolted at Heml. We happened across this quite infamous bike shop. It was well worth a visit inside. My dad’s old moped was in there, a Mobimatic, I think it was years ago. We had that. On to the next coffee and cake stop at Villainri which is where the most famous of all the shadows is and this one stands out because of his gardens not surprisingly. What was of interest to me as well were these surveyors datims along the way. And this was a rather cute though very French Mulan de Baland an old watermill. Next stop the city of tour. We had a rest day in tour which turned out to be the right thing to do because it absolutely socked it down. Wouldn’t have been much fun pedaling along in this. To be honest, it wasn’t much fun eating outside in it either. Very interesting place though tour. Definitely worth a stop. There little bits of architecture kicking about all over the place. The rain carried on a wee bit for the next day. And of course, as soon as you get rain, you get punctures for some reason. The air stayed in, the sun came out, and we were soon on our way again. It was ace. Although Ray ground to a halt again. Another small pin prick. Oh, that lad lets anything stop him. Next stop, Oma. And it seemed the rain hadn’t quite finished with us yet. Wa was very picturesque and somewhat rather typical of the Lir villages. Of course, has to have a shadow with gardens and a wall and a bridge. Aello is a fabulous ride. Even for the bits you can’t plan ahead for, the bits that you don’t expect to see. And what this place was. And just when you think there’s no cover from the sun, all of a sudden there’s a lady with shade and a glass of Shardon. The Lir ride didn’t turn out quite how we expected it to. Somewhat different. We weren’t quite as close to the river as we thought we would be, but it was really, really fabulous. Blah was a real delight. And would you believe this place was a college of magic instigated originally by Robert Hud, father of modern prestigitation. Don’t forget Jonav was here as was our mande. Oops. And always but always there’s a multi-archch bridge across the big wide rib. I should really tell you that I’ve included links in the description to weeks one and two of this adventure. It seems Ry likes his glasses of wine the same size as he likes his punctures huge. We stayed for a night in Bjoni and it was lovely as they all were and Bojon too had ye typical multi-archch stoneuilt bridge. A last pedal east along the top of the flood bank before we approach the outskirts of once more. Back to the car park, strip and pack the bikes that is not often. Thanks once more for watching everybody. Where shall we go
This is the final week of a fabulous three week trip along the magnificent River Loire in France. This film takes us from the fascinating caves just east of Saumur to Tours, Amboise, Blois and Beaugency before regaining our start point at Orleans.
