Relaxing Scenic Drive in the French Alps 4K | Vibrant Autumn Colors & Snowfall (Car Sounds Only)
Val Clarée, in the French Alps. We are driving from Névache up towards Laval. It’s a cold October morning, around –1°C (30°F): only real car sounds, no voice and no music. This valley is in the Hautes-Alpes, north of Briançon, close to the Italian border. It is a protected valley, known for untouched landscapes and the absence of big ski resorts. Most of the forest you see is larch, a typical alpine tree of this region. In autumn, its needles turn golden and orange, creating a spectacular mountain foliage. The road follows the Clarée River, which gives its name to the entire valley. In summer this area is popular with hikers and cyclists, but now it is almost empty and silent. Val Clarée was saved from heavy development thanks to the people who live here. Schoolteacher and writer Émilie Carles was one of the key voices against the planned highway. We are gaining altitude: from about 1,600 meters in Névache to over 2,000 meters near Laval. The air is colder, the road is damp, and the first snow starts to cover fields and rooftops. In winter, the road that leads up here is closed by snow. The valley becomes quiet and almost completely uninhabited, with no cars and no traffic. In peak summer season, to protect Val Clarée, private car traffic is limited. The upper valley is reached by shuttle bus, reducing the impact on this fragile landscape. Many small hamlets and houses along the valley are used only in summer. In late autumn and winter, very few people live here, and the valley feels truly remote. We are entering the Laval area, at the end of the public road. In summer, many hiking trails start from here, heading to alpine lakes and high peaks. Thank you for joining this drive through Val Clarée, with real-time, no-talking footage. If you enjoy relaxing, real scenic drives, subscribe and ring the bell for more mountain roads.

Drive into one of the quietest corners of the French Alps.
In this relaxing scenic drive from Névache to Laval, we follow the Val Clarée on a cold October morning at –1°C (about 30°F): golden larch trees, frosty meadows and the very first snowfall of the season. No talking, no music – just engine, tires and mountain silence.
📌 Where we are
Val Clarée lies above Briançon, close to the Italian border, in the Hautes-Alpes region of France. It’s a protected alpine valley, with traditional hamlets, mountain chalets and no ski lifts – famous instead for its wild landscapes and long cross-country skiing tracks in winter.
In the 1970s, local villagers and schoolteacher Émilie Carles fought against a planned highway and large-scale development. Thanks to their protest, the valley was officially protected, and today it’s known as one of the most unspoiled mountain areas in France

In winter, the road to Laval is usually closed by snow and this upper part of Val Clarée becomes silent and almost completely uninhabited.
