They Left it TOO LATE at this HEAVING STOPOVER on The Romantic Road Near Neuschwanstein Castle
We are now in Rottenbuk on the romantic road in Germany. Now the Alps are not too far away, just a few more miles. Yes. And it is getting a bit chilly now, isn’t it? We’re going to go into this church and uh see what it’s like. And apparently it’s a good Who told you that? You did. I just had a wow moment. Oh, really? Wow. I think someone’s overdone it with the decor, don’t you? Goodness me. That is incredible. That is definitely worth the visit, I think. See all the cherubs on the uh organ there? All got their own instruments. More cherubs. I’m gonna say it. This is Chapel’s got nothing on this. Michelangelo. This is the pull pit. But look at the detail on that. Amazing. Loads of gold. Lots of cherubs. Yeah. Nothing strange about this confession booth except that that’s just one, two, three, four down this side and there’s another four down the other side. All I can say is that it must be very naughty around here if you give me meaning. Even the main door is fancy. Look at that. A door within a door is huge. Now, why would the door be so big? Maybe in the past they used to be really tall people. Also, right beside it is this looks like Ham Sailor in Empire Strikes Back when he was casting carbonate. You know, a couple of these 100 foot poles or whatever they are. They got little motifs on them or whatever. And I can’t figure out what they’re for. So, I’ve realized that because we’re coming towards the Alps, these must be something to do with how deep the snow is. What do you think? [Music] We are now in Fusen on the romantic road. This is the last stop on the romantic road. In fact, unfortunately, we’re starting to head back home. So, stay tuned for more adventures in Germany and all the other places that we’re going to be visiting as we head towards Old Blighty. But today, we’re going to be visiting the castle. It’s going to be a long track up there. Well, this is Fusen Castle. It’s at the top of a hill like most castles are, I suppose. This one is a bit different. Loads of windows, glass in the windows. Uh, but to make it all pizzazzy and whatnot, they painted, what do you call that? Would that be a fresco design? So, this window here, it’s not popping out. It’s actually flat. It’s better than if it was a blank wall with just windows, I suppose. But I just find it very weird. Some rock along here. I’m looking at that wondering if that’s real. I’m sure it is though. It’s all painted on. I’ve seen that in a few of the places actually and all this bass relief kind of thing. Make it pop out. Looks great on the camera, but it’s not real. That window on the right there, that’s been painted open. Can you tell that I’m not a fan? It’s closed the castle. So, uh, we’ll come back tomorrow and take a look around, I think, if we allowed in. That is, of course, right, next we’re going to go into the church of Sen Mang. Wow. I am somewhat impressed. It’s just as good as the uh the last last one in Rottenberg. Very impressive. I think even has what looks like a fire breathing dragon. Not one. There’s another one over there. Looking at these columns makes me feel very insignificant because they seem so far away. There’s so much here. I don’t know what to film. A very impressive organ as well. Loads of gold. Now, the pool pit is just above me. Loads of cherubs and gold on the pool pit, but uh there’s no way of getting up there from the ground. The way you get in there is via this stairway here, which has a door over there, a passageway over there. So, no idea how you get in there. So, we’re in the courtyard of the rott, which is very impressive building. Um, there’s also the city library, the city museum just there. Loads of these painted walls to make it like pop out here. Nothing is real around here. I mean, that door completely painted. These cars not there. The phys they are just painted on the background there. They don’t actually they’re not actually there. Well, they are. Which one is a real window? Yep. The one on the end here. Another church this time with a car parked in front of it. Interesting place about this church is it’s got a a mural on the front there. And this guy on the left has very short legs. And the brick work is just painted on. This is a much smaller church, isn’t it? Yeah, much smaller. That’s it. So, Fussen or Fusen, however you like to pronounce it, has two stale plats. This one, the one we’re in, is called Fusen Mobile. And the other one is just three minutes walk away. Now, when we had a look at that one, it was fully booked, packed in. Now, there was only one space left in the one we’re in right now. And uh Herman has it number 29 we’re in. Since we’ve come back, we’ve gone out and come back, you know, walked into town. There’s Well, they’re just parking anywhere now. I mean, they’re not in any bays or anything. I don’t know if they’re proper uh places. This one here, it’s just parked on the end of the hedge. Now, what you do is you pick your spot and then you go over the road to the sport center just over there and you check in. It’s cost us €26 a night, which is the most I think we’ve ever spent on this holiday. €26. We staying for two nights. Uh and so therefore we’re going to spend the whole of tomorrow at Fussen and on Sunday we’re going to No Vanstein Castle and that’s cost us €47 for both of us plus 12 it will cost €12 or uh at least €12 to use the car park. So, we’ve decided that we’re going to walk into town, catch a bus to the castle, and uh continue from there. And we got to get up quite early because our uh tour, it’s a guided tour that we got um starts at 11ish and we got to be there like a couple of hours before for some reason. I think it’s because there’s a bit of a walk to the station to the station from the from the car park to the castle. Now, what I suggest to you, this is a bit of a tip, is that if you’re coming to see No Vanstein Castle, then you have to book a few days in advance. Um, we wanted to see it today or even uh yeah, today or tomorrow, Saturday or Friday. Uh but fully booked. So we’re going to have to stay here an extra day which is bit disappointing because you know we could just walk around Fen right now and uh go and go and have a look. But uh yeah, we got to wait until Sunday. Let me show you what I bought um this morning. Now I drank out of one of these clay mugs. Goodness few days ago, a week ago. €6. Says it on the bottom. Uh, and the front there says something about some monasteries brewery or something. But, uh, we just seen these in a shop in Fussen and they’re going for €13. So, I am so pleased that I got this one and the design wasn’t as good either. Some bloke on the front. I mean, who wants that? Now, if I understand this correctly, when you register, when you arrive at a hotel or uh stealth plaz or campsite, you get given one of these. It is a fusant guest card and it provides you with discounts of v various excursions and uh shops and whatever. Um but also it gets you free access on the buses. And this is what we’re going to use tomorrow. Well, Sunday, mo mainly Sunday. So, so from the from the Stell Plats, it’s about a 20-m minute walk into town. Um, but of course, if you catch can catch the bus, then it’s going to be free. Well, sorry. Did you Could you say that again? Free. It is rammed in here. And the steel coming in, it’s absolutely full. Now, there’s even a sign outside saying full. But look at this guy. This is how close he is to the wall. So, unless he’s got a space available, he ain’t going anywhere. And someone’s trying to leave. This guy here. Oh, no. No. That doesn’t look like he’s leaving, does it? And there’s another motor home the other side just out there outside the uh on the road. Yeah, that looks like he’s mooring up, doesn’t it? Oh, there’s another motor home. Of course, the problem is motor homes are coming in or campers were coming in. And of course, they can’t turn around once they’ve realized that they haven’t got any place to go. It’s just gone quart 9 in the evening and we’re still getting motor homes parking outside. Stopping outside looking for a place to stop over. Now, of course, this place is full and I assume the other place is full. Don’t quite understand why people are leaving it. so late to arrive. Everyone seems to be pouring down into down into Fusen because of course of the Disney like castles. Well, how we’ve been traveling is we set off in the morning. Well, try to set up in the morning about 9:00ish, 10 maximum and then we drive a bit and then we we have some visit some places stop and then we kind I’m looking at the clock here. We kind of finish by 2 3:00 which is really early for some people just to travel half an hour each time. What time did we get here today? It was about 2 o’clock. So, and then I was worried then I mean we was there was a queue of traffic coming in. I’m thinking and of course half of them the vehicles in that queue are motor homes and I’m thinking we’re not going to have a space here and we’re going to have to use a car a campsite which is 4050 or more like 5060. In fact, there is one that was 80 bloody euros. I mean, come on. And all I’m doing is looking at their websites. It’s like a and park for night, which is just ridiculous. There’s still people outside trying to get in and they can’t. They’re not allowed. There’s no room. There is no room at the end. So, it’s a new day. It is a lovely day and it’s uh nice and sunny back here in Fusen and we’re going to have a another wander around the town. So if you don’t believe me that we’re right at the foothills of the Alps over across these RS here, we’re surrounded by them. Large pillars of gray. Oh, hello. And of course, just over here is the church. Well, we are back at the castle and uh this time it is actually open. There’s the entrance just there. Now, it is €6 to get in and see the galleries. Uh yeah, it’s mainly two art galleries and you can go to the tower and the battlements. Since we’re going to see a huge castle tomorrow, we might get a bit castled. Yeah, we don’t want to get castled out. So, we’re going to skip that. Um, galleries isn’t our kind of thing anyway. Old architecture, I guess, all that kind of thing. I mean, they are old uh paintings, 14th century, I think he said, at one point. Uh, but yeah, we’re going to head back into town and see what else we can find. All right. You know, when someone gets really close when they’re trying to look into a window. Uh well, we’ve arrived at this uh petissery, I guess. This kind of cake biscuit shop. And you can see these are called snowballs. I think we saw them last time we were in Germany. They’re about I don’t know 3 in across. They’re quite large. And according to this sign here, they’re made with very little sugar, flour, eggs, uh and a few other ingredients. And they’re deep fried. So, we’re going to try one. They’re only about €3 and a half or something. So, we’re going to get one. No idea how we’re going to cut it in half mind. I’ll eat yours to get to mine. Right. Right. Yeah. Let us know which one you would buy in the comments section below cuz we can’t decide just yet. So, we bought a snowball and our coffee. We bought the almond one. Look at the size of that big boy. It’s just like biscuit. Really? They’re quite big, aren’t they? Balls usually are though, aren’t they? Especially when you get to my age. Unfortunately, I think I’m wearing most of it. I guess it’s like a sweet rich tea with chocolate and like eating a whole pack of biscuits, isn’t it? Yeah, it’s like eating a load of Yeah. It’s just like biscuits all stuck together. Well, that was all right. I wouldn’t say it was anything really special. You’re not missing out on anything. I love biscuits. So me, but I think I would have preferred a pretzel. Morning everyone. It is castle day. Today we’re going to be visiting No Vanstein Castle. Uh, and we’ve chose we’ve decided to drive in. There’s Herman. Just up there is the actual castle we’re going to be visiting. Seems miles away, doesn’t it? And I guess it is because there’s a 45minute walk to the castle. Now, the reason why we’ve changed our mind and rather getting the bus in, we drove in and parked up uh is because well, various reasons. First of all is it’s a wet day today. It’s going to be raining most of the time. Uh but also, uh we would have had to leave the Estelle Plats about 1:00 anyway. Uh and by the time we would have got back, it would have been gone that. So, we decided to drive in. We’re in car park number two. Now, this is the only one I could see that catered for motor homes. And as you can see, €16. That’s almost the price of a ticket. Ridiculous. Right, we’re going to be quick because we’ve just arrived at No Vanstein Castle. That big thing there. It’s very busy. It’s got very busy all of a sudden. And uh we’ve got tickets to go and have a tour in English, but I don’t think we’ll be able to do much filming to be quite fair because um it does say no cameras. Yeah, it says no cameras, but uh we can see what we can show you. And uh we’ll have a little tour around as well. So there you go. And it’s not raining for a moment. On the other side of the platform is this fantastic view. I’m right at the foot of the castle here. And look, no cranes. Just outside the entrance here. We still got an hour to our tour, though. I wonder if you can stand out in that balcony on the tour. There are people up there, but but they could be anybody. There’s a door there, right at the bottom of the screen, which goes to nowhere. Right at the bottom of the balcony is these six headstones. Are they called grotesques or something? I don’t know. They look they look very odd. Very funny. Ugly, I would say. Just check out that view. That is incredible. Obviously, the other castle in the middle. And then uh panning round, you got a car park at the bottom. Wonderful. I think it’s called Huang Shrangal, but I could be completely wrong and most likely am. Well, here we have the bridge. It’s called Miranne Brock or just Maranne Bridge, I suppose. Now all of a sudden I’ve got very nervous and I’m gripping my camera for dear life because I don’t want to drop it because that won’t be coming back. The views mind are fantastic. It’s a long way down there. And the other side it’s like a cave. Oh, I’m swaying as Oh, was it swaying or was it me? Fantastic view of the castle and actually the surrounding countryside. That’s just amazing. Right, we’re going in now. This is where we’re waiting and we can’t use film and photographs when we are going through the turn style there. So, this is the queue for the tour. Uh ours is not until 10 11 which is another half an hour. Uh but yeah, we get some nice views from in here and we can go up those stairs just there to that first level. You can also see the Maran Bridge. That looks amazing, don’t you think? Fantastic. There’s a mural on the wall just there, but nothing else is painted unlike a few of the other castles that we’ve been to. Well, we’ve made it to the balcony, folks. Look at that. That’s where we were. And we were down there earlier looking up. Lots of people taking photographs. From up here, you can see the entire bridge and how deep it goes down all the way down there. Right. So, what did you think of the tour? Oh, I enjoyed it. We had our own little audio thing to listen to like a little speaker. Yes. Rather than going around and listening to audio through the Yeah. Rather than listen to somebody. But uh yeah, it was good fun. I thought it was 20 minutes. Half hour. Was it half hour? It was half hour. Went ever so quick, didn’t it? Yeah. Lots of lots of steps. We uh we climbed quite a few stairs, didn’t we? So, we went up and down those towers a couple of times, I think. Yeah. Uh and uh yeah, the rooms were amazing. And it’s a shame you couldn’t take Yeah. Yeah, no one allowed to take photographs or video or anything like that. Now, just for your information that uh there are lockers here. Now, the reason why they have lockers here is because you’re not allowed to carry anything bulky like rucks sacks and all that kind of thing. Push chairs, umbrellas. Well, we assume rucks sacks and Yeah. Uh which is understandable because you’re all in a great big group. Yeah, that’s right. And you don’t want to knock anything. But, um they do have lockers here. €3 a locker, but then you get your money back. But you do get your back. Get it back. And they also have lockers for push chairs. Have you seen them? Yes, I did. Yeah. So, if you do have a um dust bin lid, then you can uh bring them in the push chair and then put the push chair in there. Yeah. Lock it away. So, all in all, it’s quite an expensive trip, isn’t it? Out. Very expensive. So, the castle was €23 each. 27, I think. 27 was it? Then the parking is €16 and then Yeah, that’s it, isn’t it really? Then whatever else you buy here is like three times. That mug I bought uh here €16, not €6, but it did have an Nush Vanstein on the side of it. Yeah, that make it more expensive. Exactly. Yeah, exactly. So, uh yeah, anyway, we’re going to head back down to Herman now. So, uh a feel the same. So, one thing Zoe’s just reminded me is that you can come to the castle without paying anything other than parking. Uh but um that will only get you on the outside. You won’t be able to get inside the castle. No. Um not even in the courtyard. But then you can’t take photos inside anyway, can you? No, you can’t. So, you can go around here, uh wander around, uh go across the bridge, take photographs outside. You can’t go in the castle without paying your tour ticket. We walked up here, but you could get a um like a bus, a shuttle bus, or you could come up by horse, horse and carriage. So, according to that sign just there, it is €8 coming up for an adult or €4 going down for an adult. [Music] [Music] Well, we’ve left No Vanstein Castle and we’ve driven kind of towards Strads um Stoutgart. Uh about half out half an hour up the road. Well, it’s not an air. It’s more like Well, it looks like a car park. Look. Uh there’s Herman. There is not a lot of room here. And look at this motor home. Don’t know if anyone is staying in that, but that is not getting out. Looks like a Himer as well. It’s a cafe uh called Wild Wild Cafe. Uh it was in the um Park for Night app. So, we decided to come along because it’s supposed to be very quiet here, peaceful, €12 a night or 10 plus one tax for each one of us. Some great views of the Alps and the food in there. Amazing coffee, beers, and amazing looking cakes. The scenery looks like that. And that is the Alps. Of course, now we’re driving further away from the Alps. We’re just watching the world go by. Um, after all that walking that we’ve done this morning. I think it’s tired us out, isn’t it? Yeah, it’s tired us out. And you said you’ve done like over 13,000 steps on your I know. Ridiculous. It’s all that climbing that big noss hill. Um, the other thing that I’d like to mention is that it’s supposed to have been raining all day. And well, does it look like rain to you? No. Uh, yeah. It kind of stopped, didn’t it, when we arrived there? Yeah. Before we got out the motor home. Be going till about 3:00, wasn’t it? Yeah, that’s right. So, we’ve had the perfect day and um kind of very lucky with the weather, I think. But yeah, we’re just taking in the sights at the moment. Just taking in the uh the Alps. You can’t say that every day, can you? Well, we have uh joined everybody else in the cafe. It’s very busy, very very popular. It’s got a bit quieter now, isn’t it? Yeah. But instead of coffee, we decided to have some wheat beers. It was Zoe’s idea, wasn’t it? I think it was. Yeah. There you go. See, so we’re going to enjoy some couple of beers uh while looking at that. And uh we’re going to see you in the next video where we’re going to we’re starting to head back now back to Calala. We’ve we’ve we’ve done the romantic road and now we are heading back and we’re looking for some really superb places to visit on the way back. So stay tuned for those in the up andcoming videos. Looks like a wonderful place!, we have enjoyed your romantic adventures!, hope you both got some along the way! 😉
Adz, you need a decent hat! that one looks like you found it in a skip!
Good video u two look a bit tired
We had one of those snowballs, err the dog was keen.
We did get to the castle but as you say all booked in advance so we just had a look around the outside and paid a small fortune for a Coke.
The stellplatz we stayed on in Fussen was a bit grotty although the views of the mountains behind us were amazing.
Another fun video, thanks. I do the same and try and stop between 2 and 3 for a park up.
The pole is called a May pole in celebration for May Day
Always look forward to your videos Ads. 23.44 Slick video thinking/timing. Hope you and Zoe had a great 'Romantication'.
Another great video from the top tubers
Hi guys. I am sure that the scenery is painted. 😂 ps just some feedback. We watch YouTube on smart tv,s with audio set to volume 12. On your videos audio is set to 43. So when adverts come on we get blasted. So forever turning volume up and down. Reckon you microphones are fake. Not good. 😂 George and jane
We just got back from doing the same trip. Kept getting lost as the signs are very confusing, did you find that?
sad little people you both have personalities of soggy cow pats thats why next to nobody follows you.
What annoys me is when you are parked in a large empty space and another van turns up and parks within 5 feet of you.
Return to blighty😭. So no to next week at Innsbruck in Austria a 2 hours drive or Venice 6 hours from Hohenschwangau. Maybe on the next european trip.
I can recommend Campsite El Bateo for Venice it's a 5 minutes walk for the water bus into Venice.
Trip from 2023 i put up a 3 part Utube video of a trip down the Grande canal in a water bus. But my Motorhome Crash video near Helsingborg of a Swedish car into a German Campervan had more views.😢
Always fun with you two. Apparently the bridge you stood on was built so that King Ludwig's mother could admire the castle. 👋🇬🇧🇪🇺🇺🇦🇮🇪🍺
I didn’t realise that the windows were painted. What a wow moment. Beautiful places. Take care Gill
I went to Neuschwanstein back in the 80's. I believe they filmed some of Chitty chitty bang bang there. Child catcher!!
I always wonder how brainwashed that poor peasants must have been when they looked around those churches that were built with their blood and sweat without exploding in anger. Within the feudal system of the Holy Roman Empire (10th century until 1806) cloisters, abbeys, prince-bishops and the like were the biggest landowners. Shortly before the collapse of the HRE the smallest German states were mostly dissolved, the free towns lost their status and the clergical territories were added to their secular neighbours. That happened under Napoleon's command. As a result the churches were compensated by annual sums of money that the secular territories had to pay. That was a law that never lost its validity. Even today the 16 German "Länder" that make up Germany have to pay that compensation.
Hi Ads and Zoe.Paul and Fabiola from Cadiz, Spain. Have been watching your vlogs for ages and love them all. Have just returned from a 3 month tour of Europe including the Romantic Road.Have you driven the Transfagarasan pass yet in Romania? If not, put in the diary. Slovakia was a real bonus, spectacular scenery, friendly people and very cheap. We have an elderly Aclass like you (Euromobil) and you always make us laugh at your experiences with Herman to keep him going.
Looking forward to the next vlog. Whilst in Germany did you note houses with what looks like coding above the front door? Took us ages to find out that it recorded the 3 kings visit on the night of January 5th.
