DO NOT MOVE TO SOUTH EAST ASIA AT THIS TIME OF THE YEAR | AVOID THE PHILIPPINES AND VIETNAM

Welcome back guys. Today we’re going to be talking about why it’s very important to choose to move to Southeast Asia at the right time. Right? A lot of people come here for a holiday or they relocate their life to this part of the world during the storm season which is September, October, November. So, we’re going to be talking about what’s actually been happening on this side of the world here in Southeast Asia. Not too bad here in Malaysia, but there are certain parts of Southeast Asia that you may be interested in moving to that you’re going to want to just avoid at certain times of the year. So, let’s start with the Philippines. And by the way, I’m using Zoom.ear, right? This is like a storm tracker. It’s where it’s a website where you can track storms in real time around the world, right? Look how wet and horrible it is in the UK or at least in England anyway. Right. Okay, so let’s go over. Here’s a storm right here called Fong Wong. This is the one that started over the Philippines and then it just like curved and passed by Taiwan and now it’s heading out into the Philippine Sea. So, what’s been happening is lots of storms, huge powerful tropical typhoons have been brewing up in the Philippine Sea and they’ve just been absolutely destroying parts of the Philippines, right? And then they cross over the South China Sea to Vietnam and Vietnam gets hit very hard. So I’m down here in Malaysia in Koala Lumpur just beside the straight of Malaca which is actually quite a safe place uh to live in terms of avoiding any natural disasters. I mean we get lots of rain here in Malaysia but nothing compared to what the Philippines in Vietnam has gotten over the past few months. So let’s just take a look here uh at DW just to see what’s been happening in the Philippines. So, let’s go. The Philippines is recovering from the second destructive storm in less than a week. Super typhoon Fun Wong left a trail of destruction across the north, killing at least 18 people and cutting off entire towns. More than 1.4 million people have been displaced with huge numbers now sheltering in schools and community halls. A storm so strong it’s shaking the suspension bridge like a string. Waves as high as buildings pound the coastline. Flash floods, storm surges, landslides, and gale force winds tearing through villages. This drone footage from the co. Just check out this flooding guys in the Philippines. I mean, you know, this is where thousands of people live and unfortunately people have uh just completely lost their homes. They’ve been totally ripped apart. And of course, these areas, there are some foreigners that of course a lot of foreigners who are living in the Philippines and they are uh they are of course affected also uh with this. Look at it. It’s just absolutely crazy just how much uh how much destruction there’s been. Uh so there is a link to this exact video in the description if you want to check it out. I just want to show you Hoyan which is just south of Daang. Uh this is a video here just showing the aftermath actually of what was one of the most powerful storms Hoyan has ever felt. Um I was there in January this year. I was there in um July this year. Been in and out of Han many times. Amazing place, but unfortunately it was uh a lot of the tourist attraction areas were just totally submerged and a lot of flooding going on. Really sad to see. I mean, look at the the the water level there is extremely high. I mean, I was up here. I was walking along here and the water level was like you’re talking at least a meter down from that. Um yeah, it’s it’s quite shocking to see. I mean, it was a lot worse than this uh just a couple of weeks ago, but you still got tourists going to Hoyan as well, you know, try to take in the sights and you know, you couldn’t have chosen a worse time to go to Hoyan if you’re there right now. Um very sad and of course uh we can predict when the storms are going to come because like I said earlier September, October, November uh these months you do not want to move to Southeast Asia especially the Philippines or Vietnam during this time. Avoid it at all costs. Right? If you want to move to Southeast Asia i.e. Malaysia, uh, Vietnam, anywhere in this region, the best time to do so would be probably January, February, March. So, up in Vietnam anyway, central Vietnam where Daang is, January is a fantastic time if you want to move, relocate to central Vietnam because it’s uh it’s a cool time. It’s it’s after the storms, of course. Uh, it’s during their winter, which is, by the way, very mild. You’re talking like 20° at least during the day, probably about 15, maybe even dropping to 10 at night, which is not cold for me anyway, coming from the UK. Uh, it’s much warmer and more humid in the south of Vietnam. Um, there are a few people who I know who are interested in moving to the Philippines. Well, I have been to the Philippines before and back in 2014. Yes, 2014, uh I think it was round about December, yeah, I went down from Tokyo to Manila and I got caught up in a tropical storm. My flight to Borachai was cancelled. So, I had to stay in Manila for a night and get the next day flight to Borakai. But when it comes to the Philippines, if you’re interested in relocating to this place, if you don’t know already, this place has a lot of really powerful destructive storms. So, you may want to really just take a trip to the Philippines in their dry season or whatever, which is like from like March, April, like May time I hear is a great time to go to the Philippines. But uh yes, like I said, Vietnam, if you want to relocate to Vietnam, you know, January, February, the start of the year, it’s the best time. Uh the springtime is wonderful there. The summer is very hot, but like I said, come September, October, November, you’re definitely going to feel the wrath of some of the strongest storms that you have ever felt. Uh when I lived up in Japan, uh their storm season is round about September. I used to live in Tokyo and the storms coming in from the Pacific were absolutely brutal. They were nothing like you’ve ever felt before. Like well unless you’re coming from a place like say Florida or something, but being from the UK, we get some strong storms and hurricane winds and all that, but these like tropical storms that brew up in the Pacific and the Philippine Sea are just really scary. They shake the place all night. uh lots of heavy rain. Um but yeah, down here in Southeast Asia, a lot of powerful tropical storms that you’re going to want to avoid if you’re going to be moving to this region here. Um but Malaysia, pretty safe. No risk of any like tsunamis. Uh very rare earthquakes. Yeah, I’ve never felt one here in Malaysia. I’ve been over here for about a year now. Um yes, tropical storms. Yes, of course we get them, but absolutely nothing like what they get up in Vietnam and the Philippines, guys. So, definitely choose your time to relocate wisely and uh good luck to you if you’re going to be moving to Southeast Asia. But we are now in the middle of November. So, it’s, you know, coming out of that storm season in this region. But, uh, yes, I wish you all the best if you’re relocating to Southeast Asia at the start of the year. Best time to do that.
