It is open from November 14 to December 23, 2025. It transforms the city’s historic heart into a twinkling wonderland with over 180 wooden stalls, sustainable practices, and global flavors. Voted Europe’s Best Sustainable Christmas Market, it features eco-friendly touches. The market unfolds across distinct neighborhoods, each offering its own yuletide charm. From bustling international hubs to medieval nooks. We begin at Kennedyplatz, the festive heartbeat where the market opens with a ceremonial flourish. This central square embraces an international theme, blending German coziness with vendors from over 20 countries. And all of that beneath a massive glittering light canopy. Essen is in the Ruhr area. Other points of interest: Zollverein, Dusseldorf, Cologne. Next, wander to Marktkirche, encircling the soaring spires of Essen’s 12th-century Romanesque-Gothic gem. The theme here shifts to medieval mystique with a historical zone behind the church. Timber-framed stalls lit by flickering lanterns where artisans hammer iron and weave woolen tales. Tucked into an intimate corner, Feuerwald—meaning “fire forest”—unfolds as a cozy evening enclave along a side street. Finally, end at Burgplatz, the castle square crowned with chivalry and charity, framed by medieval echoes of Essen’s noble past. From Feuerwald you’ll reach Burgplatz.
