BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA (2025) | 10 Awesome Things To Do In & Around Buenos Aires (+ Travel Tips)

What’s up guys! We’re here in
Buenos Aires, and in this video, we’re going to show you our top things
to do here. So let’s hope you enjoy it! Buenos Aires is the vibrant capital city of
Argentina. It sits on the western bank of the Rio De La Plata, a vast estuary on the eastern coast
of South America that was once crucial for trade. Founded in the 16th century as a Spanish Colonial
Outpost, the city grew from a military base to a major commercial center, becoming a melting pot
of cultures. Today, Buenos Aires is renowned for its European-influenced architecture, passionate
tango scene, and delicious cuisine. In this video, we highlight 10 of the best things to
do in and around the city. At the end, we’ll also share a few travel tips to help you
have a safe and enjoyable time. Now let’s dive in! We are Zac and Ine. We make helpful videos about destinations around the world so you
can easily plan your own adventures. Located in an upscale area of the city,
La Recoleta Cemetery is like a grand outdoor museum. Elaborate mausoleums, sculpted
crypts, and ornate monuments adorn the grounds, showcasing the wealth of Argentina’s elite,
particularly during the 19th and 20th centuries. Among the notable residents are Evita Perón, whose
tomb is a major pilgrimage site. You’ll also find monuments of countless politicians, artists, and
intellectuals. Consider taking a guided tour to learn more about the history and significance
of the cemetery as well as its inhabitants. It’s also worth strolling around the Recoleta neighborhood as it’s known
for its stunning architecture. La Boca is a vibrant port neighborhood in Buenos
Aires. It’s known for having many colorful houses, which stems from early Italian immigrants who
repurposed leftover paint from ships to brighten their homes. The most popular street to visit is
Caminito, where street performers, tango dancers, and artisans create a lively atmosphere. Another
highlight is Fundación Proa, a contemporary art museum. While this tourist area is generally safe
during the day, it’s important to exercise caution here, especially at night. If you’re interested
in watching a football match, you can also check the schedule online to see if the the famous Boca
Juniors will be playing in their stadium nearby. Imagine visiting another country as
a day trip. You can do that with a 1 hour 15-minute ferry ride across the Rio De
La Plata, which brings you to Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay. This was the first
UNESCO World Heritage Site in the country, and was founded in 1680 by a Portuguese explorer.
Once you exit the ferry terminal, take a short walk to enter the town center through the old
city walls. The architecture inside the Old Town blends both Portuguese and Spanish styles.
Stroll along its cobblestone streets, admire the colorful houses, see the iconic lighthouse,
and enjoy the peaceful local restaurants. The streets here are really peaceful and
quiet, which is a nice break from Buenos Aires. And you can also find these really cool
vintage cars all across the historic center. The Marcado de San Telmo is an indoor market
housed in a historic building. This bustling market offers a diverse range of goods, from fresh
produce and local delicacies to artisanal crafts, antiques, and clothing. Whether
you’re seeking a delicious lunch or unique souvenirs, the Mercado de
San Telmo is a great place to explore. The surrounding San Telmo neighborhood with its historic square and vibrant atmosphere is
also a fun area to explore. On Sundays, the market spills onto the streets and you
might get lucky to see an outdoor tango show. Puerto Madero is a modern district located along
the eastern waterfront of Buenos Aires. This neighborhood is renowned for its lively atmosphere
and picturesque canal, which winds through the district and offers scenic views. We recommend
strolling along the waterfront promenade, where you can enjoy the cool breezes and cityscape or
grab a drink at one of the many elegant riverside bars. While Puerto Madero is pleasant during
the day, the evenings is when this neighborhood becomes truly magical, with amazing restaurants
offering international and local cuisine. The Ecological Reserve is an expansive green oasis
located on the eastern edge of Puerto Madero. This unique urban reserve boasts diverse ecosystems,
including lagoons, grasslands, and woodlands. Here, you can enjoy leisurely walks along
well-maintained trails while spotting a variety of bird species. It’s a a great place to enjoy
some quiet time away from the noise of the city. This park is free to enter, but make sure you check the closing
times because it’s not open 24/7. Palermo is one of the most vibrant
neighborhoods in Buenos Aires, offering a diverse range of accommodations,
dining, and nightlife. Palermo Soho lies at the heart of its trendy scene, centered around
Plaza Serrano. This plaza is an eclectic hub of bars and clubs. The surrounding streets in
this area are teeming with trendy restaurants, offering a global culinary experience. Checking
out a speakeasy is also something that you can’t miss in this neighborhood. We particularly
enjoyed a place called Nicky Harrison, where a delicious sushi dinner led to
a hidden bodega for a unique drinking experience. You can find a link to our blog
post in the description below the video, which includes a map of bars, restaurants,
and speakeasies in Buenos Aires. Tango is a dance that was born in
the impoverished neighborhoods of Buenos Aires in the late 19th century and is an
essential part of Argentinian culture. You can encounter it everywhere around the city,
from free performances in plazas to paid shows at theaters. While spontaneous street
performances offer a taste of the local vibe, a professional show provides a more well-rounded
experience. We witnessed this at the Teatro Piazzolla, where tango performances were
accompanied by talented vocalists. The music, the dancers’ passion, and the historic theater
setting made for an impressive 1-hour show. Commonly known as the Bosques de Palermo, the
Tres de Febrero Park is the largest green space in the city. The park boasts a range of
woodlands, lakes, squares, and different walking paths that extend 1.5 square miles or
3.7 square kilometers. Enjoy a leisurely stroll, rent a bike, or simply relax on the grass while
soaking in the vibrant atmosphere. The park is a beloved spot for locals, creating a lively
and authentically Argentinian experience. Founded in 1580, Plaza de Mayo is the heart
of the historic center. This central square has witnessed some of the most pivotal
moments in Argentina’s modern history, from political protests to celebrations. Today,
you can find the pink Presidential Palace, the Metropolitan Cathedral, and the former Seat
of the colonial government here. Other notable landmarks in the historic center include the
National Congress, Evita Perón’s mural, and the Palacio Barolo. If you want to delve deeper into
the city’s history and culture, we recommend going on a free walking tour. You can find a link to the
tour we joined in the description below the video. As we promised at the start of the video,
we’ll now share a few travel and safety tips for Buenos Aires. The city has an
excellent public transportation system, including an extensive subway and bus network.
These are generally affordable and efficient, especially during off-peak hours. Uber
and Cabify are also popular options, but availability can be limited. Traffic congestion
can significantly impact travel times. Since distances between attractions can be far, factor
in travel time when planning your itinerary. Choosing your base in Buenos Aires depends on your
travel style and budget. Some good areas include Palermo, Puerto Madero, Recoleta, San Telmo
and downtown. If you prefer a central location, consider staying in the historic center. You
should also check the distances to your points of interest when deciding where to stay since
the main things to do in the city are spread out. As in any major city, exercise caution and be
mindful of your surroundings anywhere you go. Be wary of pickpocketing, especially in crowded
areas. While most areas are safe for tourists, be extra aware in certain parts of the city,
particularly at night. These areas include parts of San Telmo, La Boca, areas around
Retiro train station and Constitución. If you have more time in the city or are
looking for other things to do, we we put a list of more options on the screen here for you.
And if you’re planning your trip to Argentina, we recommend keeping things organized with our
interactive travel planner. Find a discount code in the description below the video.
We also included other important links in the description that will help with your Buenos
Aires experience, such as an interactive map so you can get to each place we mentioned.
We’ll catch you on the next adventure.
