AMALFI COAST LIFE IN NOVEMBER: Beach Picnics & Rebuilding a Village!

We’re Nikki and Carlo and we live in Positano, Italy. Except we also just bought a house in Tuscanany, which we’re currently renovating, so we live there, too. Join us as we turn this house and olive grove into a dream home and get to grips with living in two different parts of Italy. It’s early November and on the Amalfi Coast, it’s still unmistakably autumn. Warm, golden, and with no hint of winter creeping in yet, we’ve been making the most of this gentle weather by spending as much time outdoors as we can. Today we’re heading to Fornilla Beach for a simple picnic lunch. We stopped by the Delicatessan to pick up a few ready prepared dishes, then wandered down to the far end of the beach. A friend of ours has a charming little rustic beach shack tucked away there, half hidden and always inviting. It happened to be open, and they were inside enjoying their lunch. They asked us to join them, but since we’d already bought our food, we settled at the small table just outside. It was a perfect spot to watch the dogs racing around and a fisherman quietly getting ready to head out. A moment later, one of Indie’s sisters appeared, and the two of them began playing joyfully along the shoreline, while Holly stayed close to us, ever hopeful that a little taste of our picnic might come her way. What’s A couple of days later and it was raining. We got caught in it as we were heading out for a dog walk, but decided to carry on anyway. By the time we arrived home, we were absolutely drenched. And of course, as soon as we got home, the rain stopped and the sun came out again. We changed into dry clothes and headed down the mountain to spend some time with Mama. She’s doing really well, by the way, and managed to climb all the way up 120 steps to visit the cemetery recently. Go middle. I guess Imag. What a surprise. Who would have thought? Also, because we don’t use the car here, so everything is either on foot or on scooter. And to get to the scooter, we have to climb a mountain. So, everything just takes longer. See? And if it’s raining, everything is much wetter. Okay. Yes, it’s the same day. We’ve completely different outfits cuz we got drenched this morning. H never find the market. I wish this We’re down on the beach and just behind us here, Connor’s brother, Masimo, is having an art exhibition. Connor hasn’t been in to see yet. I’ve already been in and I’ve already bought one painting. So, I’m going to show you what I’ve bought and we’ll show you what else he’s done cuz I had no idea he’s such a good artist. See, I never I really like this one and I wanted to buy this one, but unfortunately it’s already been sold. It’s just so pretty, so delicate. I really like that. Shame. I have to get him to do another one. Now I’ve bought this one. Massimal doesn’t know that I’ve bought it. I’ve got somebody else to do it for me. I just suggest I tr on her. I didn’t see her. Poor baby. She’s weeped. She’s fine. Are you proud of him? Good morning. I’m on my way down with Holly and we’re going to go and meet Elizabeth and go over to Priano and probably feed the goats and possibly help clean up the Christmas prese, the village roadside prese. It’s so hard to explain. So, basically, basically, you’re just going to have to wait and see because I don’t think I can even explain it. We’ve done it before though. When I did um Vlogmas a few years ago, the very first episode was helping clean up the Prisa on the roadside by Priana. By Prisa, I mean little model village and there’s one on the roadside as you come towards Priano. And the guy who built it was um he hadn’t sort of touched it for years and it was falling to pieces and we helped him clean it up. Since then, in the last few years, it’s had a complete makeover. So, it’s been completely redone and it’s all sparkling and new, but they’re getting all the Christmas lights in it. Yeah. Yesterday and today. So, hopefully they’ll be there and we’re going to stop by and maybe give them a hand. Right. We’re getting the lift this morning because we’re meeting Elizabeth in the car park which is at the bottom of the lift. Come on, honey. The lift costs €1. It saves me probably about 300ish steps, I should think, and just brings me down right onto the road. So, it saves like a whole um like peninsula that I have to walk. And as I’ve just discovered, it only gives you 6 seconds to get through the uh turn star. And if you don’t get through in 6 seconds, you get stuck. Right. Where’s the car park? You don’t come here very often. This is the car park. Where is Elizabeth? Good morning. Morning. Just quickly stopping at the fermenttor, the hardware store to get a pair of gloves if we do end up cleaning. Free gloves. I asked for the gloves for the garden gloves because that’s the best one to use when you work with the nativity and with all the little things there and you have to clean all the garbage out. And it was a present cuz she loves the idea that we clean the a nice Back in November 2020, we met up with Mikuel from Bobart in Priano who built this prese on the roadside between Positano and Priano. We spent the day with him cleaning up the model village ready to decorate it for Christmas. It’s a huge project for one person. All the little houses have light bulbs to fit, electricity to switch on, figurines to place, leaves and rubbish to clear, boats to float, and it was far too much for Michael on his own. Luckily, the local community has now pulled together to help. A GoFundMe was set up and money was raised to buy paint, stucco, and materials to repair and rip steam the little village. A team of volunteers have been working for days now and local bars and cafes have been stopping by to deliver coffee and snacks for the workers. So typically like always before I start I got a coffee and now so they are working already since the 3rd of November here. The first most important thing is to clean. And this is what I’m going to help today because then they start to paint and put all the little things um in order and then the lights come. So my day today is cleaning. My day too. Yes. Our daytoday cleaning. Whatever. Okay. Nikki, you look like a Dalmatian. I understand why nobody painted this house now to get wet. I’m back home just cooking some lunch. Uh it was really nice to go there and see everybody working. They put music on and everybody was singing and it was just really lovely to see and I think that Michaela is really happy because when we went and helped him 5 years ago, the whole preseppa had been abandoned and uh nobody was looking after it and the town hadn’t sort of got together to see what they could do about it. Everything’s changed now. They’ve got a whole group together. I think they’re called Pano Meeting or Meeting Priano and they’ve got a whole load of people there working on it. Everybody was painting and cleaning and fixing the little houses and the electrical wires are all ready to be um connected to each house and little light bulbs are going to go in. So, it’s really nice to see. I’m going to get Elizabeth to send me an update in a week or two’s time so we can see the finished result. And I’m really looking forward to it because I think this is the first time in a long time that the houses have actually had a coat of paint and we were painting them all different colors. So, it was really nice, really satisfying to see that it’s up and running again and the town’s got involved and there’s a whole community working on it. What you doing? Yep. needs to go. Where you going to put it? Last year, we accidentally forgot to put this TV away. It wasn’t this one. It was an old one and it wasn’t working by the end of the winter. So, very important thing to do. Yeah, it’s very humid here. It’s more protected there as well. Yeah. So, you bought another packet of these. Did you not have enough? No, I never have enough of this. Let’s count them. One, two, three, four, five, six, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, plus the one in the bathroom, 14, 15, the one outside, 16, and one in the other, 17. 17 plus 18, 19, 20, 21, 22. You’ve got 22 now in this house. Is that enough? This one is broken. It’s broken. Oh no, it doesn’t work anymore. It’s got a hole in it. Would you like me to sew it up for you? I could put a patch on it. But this is not good enough. What’s wrong with it? For for cleaning the the super Get in the washing machine every two or three days. You are funny. Come on.

  1. Carlos's brother's Art is fantastic.:)
Im laughing to myself thinking how on Earth does Nicki carry this large brown leather bag up/down the 500 stairs .
Next clip, your walking with the strap crisscrossed along your back.:)!
    Love, Love the village renovation…..
    Lots of Hugs!

  2. Mama is looking so well, she’s a very determined lady to have improved to climbing to the cemetery. Bravo! I love her haircut. She looks so much younger!

  3. I’m with you, that first painting made me want to buy it. I really like his style! I don’t need any more art—I like an artist who convinces me otherwise. 😊

  4. Fornillo beach!! Many years ago we sailed there and stopped for a while. We went ashore and collected tumbled glass and tiles and I made several little walls plaques which I will always treasure❤ not surprised one bit to see your friends abode decorated with similar artistic endeavours❤❤❤❤

  5. This vlog seems even more beautiful and special
    The scenes are spectacular
The little village with everyone coming together
    Your friendships
The unexpected generosity of the shop keeper
    Massimo’s art
The love for your sweet dogs
The sweetness between the two of you
And especially seeing your mamma well and happy with family around the table
    Just beautiful

  6. Hahaha, when you questioned Carlo's need for so many microfiber clothes I could almost hear " Don't break a my balls". But on a serious note, my husband has more than 40. He had 10, then went to Canadian Tire and bought a box of 35. Men will be men.

  7. Lovely to hear Mama is doing well. I saw her wearing gloves…does she have issues with her hands since the stroke? I had a stroke this summer and it left me with nerve pain in my right arm and hand and I’ve found that wearing a soft glove seems to mute the pain somewhat so I am able to do a little more with that hand. Poor Carlo! Microfiber clothes do wear out and need replaced. The old ones are only good for rags. Don’t be too hard on him.

  9. Carlo brothers artwork is awesome, if he sells online I’m sure you’ll link next video. Community project is precious & I was lol over Carlo’s obsession, hysterical ❤️😘

  10. Carlo, you are so good at anything that needs microfibre cloths, you can have as many as you want. If anyone complains, just say: “Auntie Nelly says I can”. That way it is not your fault, but mine. Oh my, but I am a sneaky old sod.

  11. Always love a full day of Positano goings on. First of all your hair looks great Nicky & Momma’s too. If it’s not a hard thing for him to do, a drawing/painting of your homes would be lovely for you to have. 🏡❤ putting Nicky to work with what you do best, painting. Hi to Elisabeth 😊

  12. Lovely artwork from Carlo's brother. Don't moan about the number of cloths, at least he uses them! Look forward to seeing model village lit up. Thanks for the video. 🙂

  13. Geez, mama’s either a strong woman — or a very determined one! 😅 I am so pleased to hear just how well she’s doing, and of course it was a joy to see her again. And a big shout out to the talented Massimo! Wow! His work is incredible. I actually really love the one you bought, as I appreciate the effort that would’ve gone into all the details. You chose well Nicki.
