Previously you have seen how I was impressed with Sofia and its style on my first day after landing. In this vlog, we’ll go further away from the city to explore two UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Second day, I was all set early in the morning after grabbing some quick breakfast from the local bakery. Rila Monastery, a gem in Bulgarian mountains. It is nestled in the heart of Rila Mountains. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is absolutely breathtaking. The architecture, atmosphere, the setting itself felt like a movie set. So, give ample of time for this monastery because inside there is couple of things that you can do. You can go for monk sales or you can go for the main church. There are also museums inside and a small chapel. I decided to explore the Ethnographic Museum which was quite interesting. The day trip to Rila Monastery also included the Boana Church visit. Boana Church was built in stages from 10th to 19th century. It’s humble, small, nothing grand and I think that’s where it’s impressive. It sits quietly among the trees, almost hidden. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to take any photos or videos inside the church. Even the viewing time was very limited and also how many people can go inside the church. We were limited to 10 of us and for 15 minutes, we got to see the precious Byzantine art. The medieval paintings were incredibly well preserved which was surprising to me that these paintings were over 750 years old. It had an intimate connection with history and you feel actually the connection there. This is a must visit for anyone in Sofia who appreciates art, history or simply beautiful, meaningful places. So, if you are visiting Sofia, do not forget to visit Boana Church. You can book it with Rila Monastery together or you can just visit it separately. As it takes just 20 minutes from the city centre. I had a very late night yesterday and I was very tired and I slept off and I got up late today. But it’s fine, today is the day we will be exploring the city more and go to some museums and also food tour. So, I was just relaxing today a bit. We will go for breakfast now. Finally, the hotel breakfast which we couldn’t have yesterday because we were going to Rila. So, I had to go early in the morning. So, let’s go for breakfast. Thank you for watching.
