most atmospheric and historic Christmas markets. This beloved market traces its tradition back over 500 years,
first recorded around the year 1505. In recent years, it has won awards for its most beautiful stalls. For international visitors, Braunschweig is well located:
it lies between Hanover and Berlin, yet offers a calmer charm. This year, the Christmas market runs from
26 November 2025 through 29 December 2025. The market is centred on Burgplatz — Castle Square —
in the very heart of Braunschweig’s historic centre. Here you’re surrounded by historic treasures:
St. Blasii Cathedral, built in the late 12th century. Nearby stands Dankwarderode Castle,
once home to the dukes and now part of a major museum. The Neo-Gothic Town Hall, the Vieweg Haus,
and the Veltheimsches Haus all line the square. At the centre, the famous Brunswick Lion statue
guards the market, just as it has for centuries. A unique feature: the castle moat is lined with roofed wooden rafts,
