The ultimate 1 day guide in Strasbourg | day trip from Paris

In this video, I’m taking you on a festive day trip from Paris to Strawburg, the official capital of Noel. We spent 4 days in Paris before heading out to Strawburg for the day. If you’ve ever wondered whether this famous Christmas city actually lives up to the hype or if it’s worth visiting just for a day, then keep on watching. By the end of this video, you know exactly what to expect and whether Strawburg deserves a spot on your holiday bucket list. We took the train from Gard, which is the main station in Paris that serves the fastest and most direct route to Strawburg. Should be roughly about an hour and 45minut train ride. I checked the weather and it’s supposed to be sunny, which is incredible cuz we have not had any sun at all this entire trip. So, we’ll see you in Strawburg. If you’re leaving from the station, I recommend arriving early because it’s a large and busy hub and the trains to Strawburg fill up fast, especially during the holiday season. So, give yourself plenty of time to find your train platform and secure a seat. Overall, the ride itself was super easy and comfortable. Just arrived at the Strawburg train station. Coming from Paris, Strawburg feels completely different. It’s smaller, cozier, and so charming. Strawburg is part of the Ozas region along with Kach and Maloo. Ozas is a beautiful area in northeastern France that borders Germany and you’ll immediately notice the mix of French and German influences everywhere that you go here. [Music] The moment you start walking towards the old town, the Christmas magic will start to hit you. From narrow lanes, half-timbered houses, twinkling shop windows, it’s like stepping into a real life Christmas postcard. As you wander towards the city center, you’ll pass smaller markets and festive stalls on almost every corner. Because fun fact, Strawburg has over 300 wooden stalls spread across more than 10 different market areas. Eventually, you’ll reach a heart of it all. Plus, Cleé, home to Strawburg’s iconic Christmas tree. And this tree is absolutely no joke. It stands around 30 m tall, making this one of the tallest decorated Christmas trees in Europe. It’s wrapped in over 7 kilometers of fairy lights. Walking through the market right now, the sun is out. It’s so pretty. We’ll come back when it’s like later at night. So, when all the lights come on, especially the Christmas tree. Can’t wait to see it during night time. It’s beautiful during the day, but it becomes absolutely magical at night, which you’ll see later in this video. At the market, you’ll find all kinds of Christmas treasures from handmade ornaments and candles to traditional foods and of course, steaming cups of hot mold wine. It’s a Christmas classic, and your frozen hands will thank you for it. [Music] We made our way towards Pont St. Meline Bridge. This body of water surrounds the main area of Strawburg, which is basically set on a little island. I recommend taking a slow stroll along the water. It’s peaceful, scenic, and such a nice break from the crowds. You can also take a boat tour here, but we decided to just sit, people watch, and soak up the cozy atmosphere instead. [Music] Keep walking west on this bridge and you’ll reach La Petite France, one of Strawburg’s most beautiful and historical districts and definitely one of the most photographed spots in the city as well. I unfortunately didn’t film much here as my hands were so freezing at one point, but here’s a glimpse of what you can expect to see. We eventually made our way back towards the center and had a total jaw-dropping moment. The Strawburger Cathedral appeared right in front of us just as the sun was setting. The golden light hit the Gothic facade so perfectly, it looked like the cathedral was glowing and it was absolutely stunning. There’s also a big market in front of the cathedral as well. So, definitely take your time to explore this area. [Music] As night fell, the entire city transformed. The lights came on, the Christmas music is playing, and suddenly everything felt even more magical. Here is the iconic street in Strawburg. I’ll just let the Christmas magic speak for itself. [Music] So, was Strawburg worth the day trip from Paris For me, absolutely, yes. The city is compact enough that you can see all the main highlights in one day without feeling rushed. And if you’re traveling with kids, this is a no-brainer because they will absolutely love it and they’ll probably be dreaming about this holiday every single year. And if you have more time, I can easily see this be a very wonderful weekend getaway. After a full day of Christmas magic and mold wine, it was time to catch a train back to Paris because our next stop was Leon, France. If you’re planning your trip around France, definitely check out my Paris and Leon videos next. I think these three places make the perfect holiday itinerary around France. I hope this video gives you a good sense of what to expect in Strawburg. Thank you so much for watching. Happy holidays and I’ll see you in my next travel adventure. Bye. [Music]
