Cheap Eats in Nice, France – Our Updated Guide to the Best Budget Food for Under €10!

[Music] In Nice, it’s really easy to find great food at not so great prices. But what about the good stuff that doesn’t blow your budget? Well, the city actually has tons of cheap eats, delicious grab-and-go spots, many of them serving proper local specialties. So, we did a bit of homework and today we’re taking you to the places locals love in this updated edition with a few new finds we can’t wait to show you. Let’s kick things off in Nis’s old town, then head up to the Liberasio neighborhood with a quick little detour through the Geridor and finish over by the harbor. The old town is the most touristy part of N, so chances are you’ll end up here sooner or later. probably at some point in need of a snack. So, how about one of these? Quick heads up before we dive in. We’re not giving exact opening hours cuz they often change for the seasons. Just give them a quick check before you go. This is Corsa and there’s lots of food to go here. If you’re after a quick bite, this market is packed with options. Baked goods and cookies you’d normally pick up at a bakery, ready-made meals, and of course, fresh fruit if you need a little vitamin boost. And yes, there’s even a smoothie stand. Make sure you stop by Teresa’s booth. Apart from pizza, she sells all the local favorites. So, pisadier pan. Now, if you’re wondering where all those funny sounding dishes actually are, we’ve got you covered. Check out our video on this local cuisine. One thing to keep in mind, the Kalea market wraps up around 100 p.m. And on Mondays, there are no food stalls at all. As you can read behind me, we are at Paris. Now, this is probably the furthest will drift from traditional Niss food today, but it’s still very much in the Mediterranean family. Think kebab, falafel, Greek salad, and lots of grilled veggies. All the comforting staples. You can grab your food to go or sit down at one of the indoor or outdoor tables if you want a quick break. Piras sits close to the tram line connecting the old town to the new parts of Nice. And it’s open every day from just before lunch all the way into the night. Super handy whenever hunger strikes. We are at Chas right now. And yes, the name might ring a bell. You’ve already met Teresa earlier at the Corsa Market here in Rudrat, right in the heart of the old town. She also runs her own little restaurant. During high season, be prepared for a bit of a queue at lunchtime, which honestly says it all. Just like at her market stall, you’ll find all the classic local dishes here. Sa pa, pisadier, the whole n lineup. The saka is baked fresh on site in a traditional stone oven and prices are pleasantly budget friendly. You can grab everything to go or enjoy it right here. We went for soa and pisadier and yeah, absolutely delicious. If you’re craving even more local specialties, the old town has a couple of classics you shouldn’t miss. First up, Renea. And then there’s Lupila Leva, which roughly means take it with you in Nisa, local dialect. Even though both spots are known for quick, affordable food to go, you can sit down and eat on site as well. Lupily Leva sits on a cute little square right in the middle of everything. Perfect for a relaxed snack break while people watching. Of course, being this close to Italy, pizza is a big deal in Nice, too. So, here are two of the best pizza to-go spots in town. Behind me is Pizza Pill. This tiny spot on Ruben Buniko is a true Oldtown classic. It’s strictly takeaway, no tables, but the prices are great and a choice of pizzas is surprisingly big for such a small place. According to our friends, Py’s pizzas are seriously tasty, and they often grab one to enjoy down by the beach, which is not a bad idea at all. No luck for us at this pizza spot right by the Promead. It was close when we passed by on a Tuesday afternoon, but it does have a pretty fun feature. You can actually order a fresh pizza 24/7 from their vending machine, which you can even switch to English. Just place your order, pay, and your hot pizza pops out right here. And now, Chef Felix, you could easily walk right past this place. It’s tiny. But don’t, the team here is incredibly welcoming, and they serve proper local food to go. One of their specialties is panata. The owner, Jean Shah, Felix’s son, showed us how he prepares it. This is the small one, and this is the big one. We stopped for a quick coffee and immediately felt at home. Whether you’re after a snack or just a drink, definitely give it a try. It’s right on Bulvar, which separates the old town from the new, just like our next tip. And now we’re at the bakery called Bakeries in France are perfect for quick snack to go. Lots of them even offer a little lunch menus, a sandwich, a pastry, and a drink for under €10. There’s a bakery on almost every corner, but we wanted to bring you to this one today because the prices are great, the staff is super friendly, and it opens at 4:00 in the morning almost every day. People actually stopped by on their way home from a night out in Nis’s old town. Food-wise, you get all the local classics from panata to pisier, plus salads, lasagna, simple ham and cheese sandwiches, and of course, all the beautiful French tarts and pastries. The coffee is made in a proper Italian machine and still comes at fair prices. There are several Mutteri bakeries in Nice, including another one near the harbor, an area we’ll take you to later. Now, just a quick tip on our way to the next neighborhood. Xandonire is a fun little spot that opened just recently in the Kidor. It takes the Berlin Da derived from Turkish kebab and gives it a fresh modern twist. It’s right on Niss’s main pedestrian street starting at Plasma Sina. We haven’t tried it out yet, but if you have, let us know in the comments. And now we’re heading over to a cheap eat spot in the neighboring district of La Liberasion, a place we kept hearing great things about, Sockat Traum. As the name suggests, it sits right on the tram line that runs straight through the neighborhood. Sockat opened back in 2007, right when the tram started operating. Since then, it’s become a go-to for locals looking for quick, tasty lunch, serving typical nissa dishes and pizza. When we arrived, it was just past 2 p.m. and they were about to close. But luckily, it didn’t take much convincing for the chef to heat up a slice of pizza for us. The onion tart was excellent, by the way. Super crunchy and really flavorful. Our next stop takes us to a Lebanese place that several of our friends recommended as one of their favorite fast food spots in the area. You can order everything to go or eat inside from Tuesday to Saturday. We arrived in the early evening and judging by how busy it already was, you can probably tell how popular it is. And sure enough, just a few minutes later, I was in food heaven. Before we move on to the next neighborhood, here’s a quick extra. Kant at Plastul gets top marks from pretty much everyone around, especially for its local specialties from panbany to pisadier. If you try it, let us know what you think. So, our final chapter takes us to the area around the port. Over the past few years, this part of N has really come to life with cute cafes, restaurants, and bars popping up everywhere. But of course, we’re sticking to our mission, showing you the best spots for quick and tasty snacks. Over there is the next place we wanted to show you, Ducky. Again, friends have recommended this charming spot by the harbor, and we loved it right away. Just look at the paintings on the walls. There are so many little details to discover, all hinting at the owner’s spirit. [Music] Frankie cooks with so much passion. He takes traditional local recipes and turns them into his own modern finger food style creations. His signature dish is the baba. Definitely try these tasty little dumplings filled with charred onions, rice, and parmesan. They’re super typical for the region and absolutely delicious. And by the way, daki means from here in Nisa, the local dialect. Here we are at Shaipu. Sha peopleipo, which is also just a short walk from the harbor, is a real institution in Nice. The family has been running this restaurant for almost a century, and many say they serve the best saka in town. A chickpea flour pancake baked in a woodf fired oven, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. You can also get little slices of pizza and a few other local, mostly vegetarian dishes. At lunchtime, expect a line for a table, which kind of says it all. If you want to learn more about Shepi Pool, check out the video that just popped up in the top right corner. Now, let’s take a look at Lagrata. This is our final stop for today. You’ll find this little food stall at the far end of the harbor. Perfect if you’re on your way to one of Niss’s more secluded beaches. If you’d like to know more about the area, we’ve covered it in our video about the top five hidden beaches on the French Riviera. Anyway, according to one of our friends, Lagrata serves the best pan in Nice, but you can also pick up classic sandwiches and grilled paninis at really good prices. So, that’s our take on the best cheap eats, but we’d love to hear your favorites, too. And if you want to dive deeper into N’s food scene, check out the tours on Riviera.com. 1. Can't wait to return in a year or two time. Didn't have enough time try some places on this list. But enjoyed alot of restaurants we ate at. I have a fav restaurant not sure if you have ate at. Chez moi

  2. We often grabbed some pre packaged food at the grocery store right on the main square above old Town. It was so cheap and delicious! Like pasta salad…in Canada our grocery store food is not very good
