Walking Tour of Perast – Montenegro’s Dreamy Coastal Gem

in this video Hello everyone from Perast – a small but incredibly charming town in Montenegro. So turn on the subtitles in your own language, and let’s go for a walk through this romantic little gem. Perast sits right by the Bay of Kotor, surrounded by stunning mountains and the sea. It has an amazing history for such a small town. It was once part of the Venetian Republic, so it’s no surprise that the architecture feels very Italian – elegant balconies, arches, and family crests carved into the stone. The stone houses are gently embraced by living greenery, weaving the town and nature into one poetic scene. It used to be a town of sailors and captains – ships from here once sailed all over the Mediterranean. Back in the 17th and 18th centuries, almost every local family owned a ship – that’s how wealthy Perast used to be. Today, Perast is a peaceful place, perfect for strolls, photos, and a glass of wine at sunset. Every little house here feels like it’s from a fairy tale – cozy, flower-covered, with windows gazing out at the sea. Time slows down, the heart grows calm, and you can’t help but feel – you’d love to stay here, for a long, long while. Believe me. It feels like there are no boundaries here — only blue, stone, and harmony, where town and sea become one. A walk along Perast’s waterfront feels like stepping back in time: calm waters, historic houses, and the gentle sun. To me, the most beautiful combination in nature is the sea and the mountains. Here, you can find both, which is why the local landscapes are so breathtaking. Wealthy people really did live here – just look at these grand villas and think, “Well, here’s where you could comfortably hide all your treasures!” The estates are so luxurious that even today they make you dream of a life with a view of the sea and mountains. By the way, in Perast, you can rent a boat and see the town from the sea – the old houses and bell towers rising like a storybook before your eyes. Now, let’s dive into the heart of the town. The streets are narrow and stone-paved, like something out of another century. By the way, just near Perast are two truly unique gems of this region. Be patient for a little longer, and you’ll find out what I mean. Perast is mainly a pedestrian town.
Its narrow stone streets and historic layout aren’t suited for cars, so most exploring is done on foot. It was definitely worth climbing these stairs. The view from above is even more breathtaking! The Church of Our Lady of Carmel in Perast is a charming little gem – cozy, historic, and full of family stories. The church was a private chapel of the prominent Balović family and served as their family mausoleum. And here’s Perast’s most iconic landmark – St. Nicholas Church. It was built in the 18th century, with the bell tower added a little later. Its bell tower soars above the town, like a silent sentinel watching over the sparkling waterfront. From the tower, the town and surrounding mountains unfold like a dream – a view that makes every step up truly magical. Though Perast is small, it boasts 17 churches. That’s because, in the past, almost every wealthy family had their own private chapel. Many of Perast’s historic villas have been transformed into charming hotels and elegant residences, blending history with modern comfort. Here is St. Mark’s Church – another gem of Perast, where stone walls whisper stories of centuries past, and the sun dances on the baroque facade. I don’t know what I love more – the church itself or its picturesque surroundings. The charm and beauty of this town truly deserve a perfect 10 out of 10! The charm all around takes your breath away. And now, I’m going to show you the Museum of the Town of Perast, housed in the 17th‑century Bujović Palace. It is a treasure trove of maritime history – with ship models, captain portraits, and family heirlooms. And here are the promised gems. Just off the coast, you can see two tiny islands – St. George and Our Lady of the Rocks. According to legend, the island of Our Lady of the Rocks was made by hand – sailors dropped stones into the sea where they found an icon of the Virgin Mary.
