Christmas in Greece – Mediterranean COSMOS Mall Thessaloniki 2025–2026 | Narrated 4K HDR

We’re in Mediterranean Cosmos, the biggest
shopping mall in Northern Greece, all dressed up for Christmas. In this 4K HDR walking tour we’ll stroll
through glittering corridors, explore both levels, visit the food court and the
open-air courtyard with its cafés, bars and restaurants. So, let’s step in! We start outside the main entrance, on
the eastern side of Thessaloniki, in the municipality of Pylaia, about ten minutes’
drive from “Makedonia” Airport and just off the Thessaloniki–Nea
Moudania national road. The façade is already glowing with warm
Christmas lights, decorations and the big COSMOS sign guiding you in. Behind us lies one of the largest retail
and leisure developments in Northern Greece, with over 200 stores and several
thousand parking spaces spreading out around the complex. Let’s walk through the sliding
doors and leave the cold outside. As we enter, look at how the ground
floor opens up like an indoor city street. Mediterranean Cosmos was designed
with “roads” and “squares,” inspired by traditional towns in Northern Greece,
but with the comfort of a modern mall. You’ll see that in the way the corridors
curve, how the seating areas feel like little plazas, and how the decorations
hang in long curtains of light above us. On this level you find many of the anchor
stores and big fashion brands, electronics, cosmetics and everyday services. More than two hundred retail units operate
here in total, so this is the floor where most people start
their shopping hunt. At Christmas, the neutral white light of
the ceiling gets replaced by warm gold: strings of fairy lights, huge
baubles and reflective ornaments create long tunnels of sparkle. You’ll notice how the metallic
decorations catch the camera’s HDR highlight range as we move. A quick practical note: most shops
follow the mall’s standard opening hours – generally Monday to Friday from 10 in the
morning to 9 in the evening, and Saturdays from 10 to 8, while on normal Sundays
they remain closed, unless special holiday legislation allows
extra openings. For the latest information, it’s always a
good idea to check the “Opening Hours” section on the official Mediterranean
Cosmos website before you come. As we walk past the shop windows,
look for the Christmas activity boards. Each season the mall runs a dedicated
festive program – workshops for kids, puppet theatre, circus and magic
shows, and, of course, visits from Santa. The current schedule is usually gathered
under the “Christmas Together” or similar Christmas landing page on the official
site, with specific dates, times and locations inside the mall. On the left and right you’ll see smaller
squares where temporary stalls often appear in December – local sweets,
gift ideas, and charity stands. These spots make Mediterranean Cosmos
not just a shopping center, but a little seasonal village where families can spend
half a day without ever stepping outside. We glide up to the upper floor. As we rise, notice how
the space opens up: two long balconies facing each other,
the ground floor far below and a ceiling completely taken over
by Christmas lights. At the top we
pause and look back. You can see almost the entire length of
the mall: shop signs, people moving in slow streams, children pointing
at the giant ornaments. From here Mediterranean Cosmos feels like
a miniature indoor city, with streets and squares stacked on two levels. We turn left and start walking
along the gallery corridor. On both sides, the upper level is lined
with fashion brands, footwear, accessories, tech and kids’ stores. Compared to the ground floor,
the pace up here is more relaxed. You get natural pauses: seating islands
near the railings, quiet corners where people check their phones, shoppers
regrouping with a coffee before continuing. Look at the Christmas design. Strands of fairy lights run from one side
of the atrium to the other, with clusters of baubles and snowflakes
hanging at different heights. Some sections lean into champagne and gold,
others switch to deep reds and greens, and in between you’ll spot stars, bells or
wrapped “gifts” suspended in the air. As we move, the decorations appear and
disappear in layers, filling the frame with reflections. As we continue, let’s talk briefly about the mall’s story while you watch the lights. Mediterranean Cosmos opened in 2005
and quickly became a reference point for Thessaloniki’s eastern suburbs. For many locals this isn’t just a
shopping center but a weekend destination. Families come for clothes, toys and
household items, but they also come simply to walk, grab a coffee and let
the kids burn energy in a safe, weather-proof environment. On weekdays, especially earlier in the
day, this upper floor can feel almost calm. But during December weekends it comes
alive: bigger crowds, louder conversations, children laughing, bag after
bag swinging from tired arms. The Christmas events – live music, kids’
shows and Santa meet-and-greets – often take place down in the open zones,
but some of the best viewing spots are right here on the railings. Earlier you saw the signs for Village
Cinemas Mediterranean Cosmos. This multiplex is one of the
entertainment anchors of the mall. Inside, multiple auditoriums show the
latest blockbusters, but it’s also about the technology. Among the halls there’s a Dolby Atmos
auditorium, where speakers surround you not only from the sides and
the back but also from above. In a Dolby Atmos screening, sound can
move anywhere in three-dimensional space: a helicopter can rise above you and
fade behind, raindrops can fall from the ceiling, a storm can roll from
one corner of the room to the other. Combine that with a large-format Vmax
screen and comfortable seating, and you understand why many people plan their
whole evening around a film here – shopping first, dinner later and
the movie in between. Further along, the upper floor continues
with more specialty stores – from home décor and electronics
to beauty and sportswear. Some areas of the
Christmas décor are themed: one “neighborhood” opts for snowy white
branches and icicles, another leans into warm market-style lanterns. It breaks the space into zones, so
each loop around the circle feels slightly different. Practical note
for your own visit: restrooms and ATMs are clearly signposted,
and elevators offer step-free access between levels – helpful if
you’re visiting with a stroller, luggage or mobility issues. Where the corridor opens up, you can see
some of the larger festive installations: towering Christmas trees, illuminated sculptures or a themed village set for kids. From above, you get the full composition
– people weaving in and out, decorations glowing and a steady background
hum of voices and music. At the far end of this upper ring, the
corridor starts to lead us toward the food-court area. As we walk, we’ll take one last look over
the railing – two levels decorated from one end to the other, hundreds of shoppers
and, somewhere in the mix, your own virtual footsteps adding to the rhythm of
Mediterranean Cosmos at Christmas. From here, we follow the flow of people and
head for the smell of food and the glow of restaurant signs, as our tour
continues into the food court. Now we’re entering the food court
area, a natural stop after a long round of Christmas shopping. Here, quick-service restaurants
and dessert spots line both sides: Greek street food, burgers,
pizza, Asian options, and plenty of coffee and pastry choices. Look around as the camera moves: trays of fries, souvlaki and hearty winter
comfort food, but also salads and lighter options for those trying to
balance out the holiday sweets. Finding a vegetarian or flexitarian meal
is usually quite easy, with many menus offering at least a couple
of meat-free choices. While department stores and most
shops close by 21:00 on weekdays and a bit earlier on Saturdays, the cafés and
restaurants inside the mall and around the courtyard typically keep longer hours
– often from morning until late at night, making this a convenient spot
for a post-cinema meal or a drink even after the shops have shut. From some tables you get a view down into
the atrium and the Christmas lights, from others you see straight
out towards the courtyard. We’ll follow that view next, stepping
outside to the open-air square. We step into the outdoor courtyard –
one of the most atmospheric corners of Mediterranean
Cosmos at Christmas. Around us are cafés, bars and full-service
restaurants arranged around water features, seasonal installations and,
on many years, giant light sculptures and illuminated arches. This is where the day
often turns into evening. Even when the main mall has closed for the
night, many of these courtyard venues stay open later, following the restaurant and bar timetable rather than the shop schedule. It’s perfectly normal to see people
arriving just for dinner, drinks or dessert here, without ever walking
through the shopping levels. Some names change over time,
but the concept remains the same: from brunch-style all-day spots to
gastrobars and dessert cafés, this square is a local meeting point. During the festive season, you might
find heated terraces, blankets, seasonal cocktails and Christmas-themed
menus – all framed by music and the glow of thousands of lights. If you look beyond the restaurants, you’ll
notice just how big the parking area is. Mediterranean Cosmos offers several
thousand parking spaces – around 2,800 to 3,000 spots according to the
mall’s and developer’s figures – extending around the complex. Parking here is paid and usually charged
as a low flat fee for many hours, but it is not deducted from purchases, so don’t
expect the typical “free with receipt” validation you might
see in other malls. Always check the price list at the entrance
or payment machines to confirm the current rate. Just a short walk from here is Magic Park,
Thessaloniki’s long-running luna park. It sits off the same access roads,
with classic rides, family attractions and seasonal events – another option if
you want to extend your day with a bit of outdoor fun, especially
when the weather is good. Further along the main road you’ll reach
the IKEA – Florida / Top Parks retail area, where big-box stores like IKEA, Jumbo, JYSK
and others are grouped together, plus a large additional parking lot. This whole zone functions as Thessaloniki’s
eastern retail hub: you can easily combine a visit to the mall with furniture shopping
or a quick stop at the IKEA restaurant. If you don’t have a car, the area
is still reachable by OASTH buses. Several city bus lines serve the IKEA /
Emporiko Kentro stops just a few minutes’ walk from the mall, making it
accessible from downtown and from the metro terminus at Nea Elvetia. For up-to-date routes and timetables,
always check the official OASTH website or app before you set out. We’ll end our walk here in the courtyard,
panning slowly across the illuminated sculptures, the reflections in
the water and the silhouettes of people enjoying their night out. From early December until the New Year,
Mediterranean Cosmos turns into one of Thessaloniki’s classic Christmas
outings – part shopping trip, part light installation, part
family evening. Thanks for walking with us! If you enjoyed this narrated tour, tap subscribe and like, It really helps the channel! For quiet, natural sound walks, check our sister channel,

We start outside the main entrance, on the eastern side of Thessaloniki near Pylaia, and walk into the warm, decorated interior. On the ground floor, we pass fashion chains, tech and cosmetic stores, Christmas stalls and family meeting points – all framed by garlands, ornaments and long curtains of golden lights.

Then we ride the escalators to the upper floor, where the mall opens like an indoor city. From here, you get the best views over both levels and the Christmas installations below. We walk past cafés and specialty stores and stop by Village Cinemas Mediterranean Cosmos, the mall’s multiplex with modern technologies such as Dolby Atmos and large-format Vmax screens – a favorite evening-out spot for locals.

Next, we continue toward the food court, where the smell of souvlaki, burgers, pizza, sweets and coffee fills the air. This is where shoppers pause, refuel and plan the rest of their day. From certain tables, you can still see the atrium and the Christmas lights while you eat.

Finally, we step outside to the open-air courtyard, surrounded by cafés, bars and full-service restaurants. Many of these places stay open later than the main mall hours, so people keep arriving here for drinks and dinner long after the shops close. Around the courtyard, you’ll also see the huge paid parking area – convenient and spacious, but not deducted from purchases.

Just a short distance away is Magic Park, Thessaloniki’s luna park, and further along the road, you’ll find the IKEA area with big-box stores like IKEA, Jumbo, JYSK and more. Frequent OASTH buses connect the mall and IKEA zone with the city, so you can visit even without a car.
