Discover an Ancient UNINHABITED Village | Driving Through a Breathtaking Remote Valley – Alps
Welcome to a spectacular late autumn ride, starting from the small village of Cervières and ending at the end of the road at the bottom of the valley, where we’ll discover an ancient, uninhabited village in the pristine heart of the French Alps. The unspoiled village of Cervièresv, with 173 inhabitants located at an altitude of 1620 m, i s at the crossroads of the roads leading to the Col de l’Izoard along the famous Roue des Grandes Alpes and the Vallée des Fonts. This road trip is a deep dive into the authentic Haute Montagne of the French Alps, a stretch of road that winds through a preserved side valley, often closed in the dead of winter. Geographical notes and itinerary Location: Cervières (Hautes-Alpes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region), France. Valley: Vallée de Cervières, also known as Vallée de Fonts in its upper part. Starting point: Cervières (approximately 1,620 meters / 5,315 feet above sea level), a typical Alpine village located on the road leading to the legendary Col d’Izoard. Arrival point: Les Fonts de Cervières (approximately 2,040 – 2,050 meters / 6,693 – 6,726 feet above sea level). Estimated length of the section: approximately 10-11.5 km (6.2 – 7.1 miles). Climate Context (November)
Recorded temperature: -4°C (25°F). Conditions: In November, the valley straddles late autumn and early winter. With temperatures around -4°C, ice and fresh snow are likely, especially in shaded sections, making driving more challenging but extremely picturesque. Outside summer, the road is often closed to vehicles, becoming a trail for cross-country skiing or snowshoeing. At this point in the journey we still had no idea of the fantastic landscape we would find further ahead and what we would discover at the end of the road! Briançon nearby: Cervières is close to Briançon, Europe’s highest town (1,326 m / 4,350 ft) and a UNESCO World Heritage site for its Vauban fortifications. The Vallée de Cervières is renowned as one of the region’s wildest and best-preserved valleys, surrounded by peaks exceeding 3,000 m (9,843 ft). Proximity to the Italian border has left a rich legacy of fortifications and outposts, testifying to its past strategic importance. Ahead of the upper Cerveyrette valley, a vast, almost flat, marshy expanse, come and discover one of the largest peat complexes in the Southern Alps. The Fonts de Cervières valley is traversed by the Cerveyrette stream, a tributary of the Durance River. The Italian border is very close, as is the Montgenèvre ski resort, hidden behind the mountain ridges. It is a secluded and unspoiled valley comprised of several charming summer hamlets: Les Fonts, Lachau, Le Bourget, Les Hugues, and Les Chalps. The chalets, with their typical architecture, are a reminder that rural life here is governed by the rhythm of the seasons. Have you ever driven on a mountain road like this? Share your experience in the comments. At this point in the journey we still didn’t know the surprise that awaited us at the end of the road! We have arrived at the end of the road now we will go on foot to discover this ancient village where time seems to have stopped Les Fonts is an ancient group of chalets now completely uninhabited and alpine pastures symbolizing traditional mountain life, with a refuge (Refuge des Fonts) for hikers on the GR58 (Tour du Queyras). The village has a long tradition of pastoral activities, which are reflected in its landscapes and buildings. Can you also feel this peace? This is the power of the mountains in the off-season. A journey that freezes time. Write below what you think of these suspended atmospheres. We leave this pocket of suspended time, safeguarding its silence. Remember to subscribe so you don’t miss the next adventure. And so, the asphalt ends, but the journey continues in memory. The valley will return to its winter silence, awaiting the next season, or the next traveler curious enough to seek it out. Until then, take a piece of this frozen peace with you. Until the next discovery Thanks for sharing this experience with me! See you next time!

Too bad the solar panels and satellite dish diminish the ancient vibe.
Very beautiful trip into an amazing valley during the right season. The colors therefore are great. The catched mood as well.👍
Superbe images mais pourquoi utiliser une caméra grand- angle qui déforme les lignes droites et en plus ça fait tourner la tête ?
