Nuweiba: Deserted Paradise or Gateway to a New Life?
We’ve seen signs saying Moses or Musa nearby. And then we found out that Noea is one of the possible crossing places when the Israelites left Egypt. Well, here we are. Beachside Noea and Michael’s house. They got puppies. Yep. I’m sure she will learn each one of them. [Music] We are at Tab Bean Beach about a half kilometer from our hostel and we’ve stopped for a cup of tea and a bowl of lentil soup by the seaside and the idea of camp which we see written everywhere is that this is Bedawin camp. So it will have a name then it’ll say camp and just the other side of that wall there are camels resting in a empty field. Yeah. So yes, it’s a camp. That’s grass roof and a very lovely breeze coming through. We haven’t been in the water yet, but it’s coming. It’s not like dah. It’s a little more maybe authentic to the culture. Well, authentic used to be it was empty. That’s authentic. And it were just uh bedawins coming through on camel back. Yeah. And they would set up camp. They would set up camp and go again. Uhhuh. Okay. That’s authentic. So it has that flavor. So it’s got it’s got that nothingness going on. Yeah. Yeah. Hardly anyone here. Yeah. But maybe they come on the weekends. Okay. Good morning from Neweva. It’s not coffee. We already had our coffee. Uh-huh. Well, we’re turning north. Uh, let me pan around. This is the Gulf of Aoba. Saudi Arabia on the other side. This is central NEA we found out. And if you go all the way around to that point and around the other side, you head to the downtown where the port is. And we’ll probably make a day trip there. Uh these places are called camps. And uh as a westerner, we have a certain idea of that. But these were bedawin camps where they would come in, set up a tent, put down the cushions, and live for however whatever the length of time. Bring the camels and the camels are still everywhere. Yeah. So this morning we’re taking a walk uh north from our camp and uh we had a very comfortable room with air conditioning. We didn’t need it. And uh we just had a coffee and some mango this morning and we’re out for our explore. Coffee because we brought our own supplies. Yeah. So, you know, but thank God we do. They had the facilities, but typically here they uh they come to life between 8 and 10 and we’re usually out the door. It’s it’s not 8:00 a.m. yet and we’re already out. So, we just find a way to have it work with our system. And that one. Mhm. And a lot of a lot of the signs they have a sign, but it’s not open. You know, it’s actually functioning. But that’s the way in Dahab things are really well. As we came up the coast from Chareket, that was Wiki and Vegas and Dahab was uh still sort of chill, but you could see the developments coming. And here we’re further further out, but those are established buildings, their style, and uh the draw for us is that it was 10 paces from the water. Yeah. Plus, I’ve been here before and I wanted to see what it’s turned into. And it’s still pretty pretty primitive. Mhm. They’re trying. Um, one of the draws here is they have sea turtles. Haven’t seen one yet, but I’ll let you know as soon as I do. Yeah. Okay. It’s not even 8 in the morning. Good morning. Oh, wow. Yeah, that looks like a winner. S shirt for you. It could be that that that or that. Okay. Well, I’m sorry to wake you. Just pick a dish. [Music] Well, we got out of the store. He was sleeping on the floor. We didn’t see anybody. And there he was. Uh, and right next door, this is the Albataway camp. And, uh, look. Isn’t that beautiful? Take take a few steps back there into the light cuz we can’t see. This thing’s going to just pop in the light. Yeah. And we don’t know what we’re going to do with it yet. It’s like a wall hanging. I might travel with it. Put it on our somewhere. Yeah. I’ll I’ll see it on the back of her backpack. It’s beautiful. Okay. Well, you never know. We thought there must have been some uh you know fishing village kind of vibe, but we haven’t seen it. We’d have to study the history of the area. It says Petra here, but on the smaller sign it says welcome Mosa camp. Come again. Oh, I said I used to have that shirt. Uh, the best that said the best way into the Red Sea since Moses. I thought that was so cool. I bought it. It was a sweatshirt. And next up the line, Saba Camp and a puppy. Got a little bit of German Shepherd in them, huh? Yeah, they’re all very big. Restaurant and coffee shop. With every 100 meters comes another camp. And look at the backdrop of these mountains dropping to the sea and up and up and around. And we did a video the other day, the colors of Egypt. And this this captures it, huh? Yeah. Palm trees against the sky. [Music] spotted two black donkeys and we’ll make our way over to see if they cooperate. Good morning, kids. You’re very beautiful. They got a white mouth and a white belly and big black ears. [Music] Okay, so much for that. Well, we saw camels. Olga’s venturing in. She just got past the guard dog. Good morning, doggy. Looks pretty happy. [Music] And the camels. [Music] Come on. [Music] No success on that one, huh? Well, we had seen the camel and we’d seen the camel tracks. And he’s on his way back along the beach. [Music] It’s a very different kind of place. Very different. [Music] Many kilometers of beach, hardly any people, a handful of tourists maybe. Huh. And then this. Hi. Wow. We don’t see that every day. You’re working him hard. He’s foaming. Hi, beautiful. Yeah, I saw him running earlier, so he’s uh putting out a lot of energy. Okay, there you go again. No, I don’t. But thank you. Very good. I’ll watch you doing it. [Music] anywhere near there. [Music] I can’t for our purposes. The NEOA crossing is speculation and uh people who read the biblical things try to make sense of it and uh anyway we saw this little outcropping and we thought a little land bridge that’s what they said there was a land bridge that formed and uh well anything is possible under the sun. I think the idea on some of these old biblical stories is that they are allegory and the idea is for the soul to get free in India they use the term jail kana jail house and this is the description of the soul’s plight within the body that is trapped in the world of uh physical senses and can’t soar free. Anyway, we encourage you to look into things and to find out and explore and make sense of this life. That’s part of what pleasant journeys is. And we are enjoying this day in New [Music] I was saying this is must be what it looked like 1978 undeveloped a couple shacks. Yeah, that was it. Nothing there. Yeah. And I came with a private car to go scuba diving. And I I met the guy asking Mr. like goes, “Yeah, I’m going to Blue Hole and I’m going Canyon and come with me.” No nonsense. I said, “Okay, that I like that.” So that’s what happened. We came across the truck stop. Uhhuh. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. In the Bedwin bus on the way back. Well, that that was Yeah, that was These are three compadres this morning. And when Oka first walked up to the white one, she started crying. She They’re so happy. She’s beside herself. Old friends. [Music] Olga just said note to self, no more Danielle steel. Got it. [Music]
Moses, Mosa, Musa – Nuweiba has a history, but was it the biblical Red Sea crossing point? Meanwhile, a Sinai day unfolds – Olga finds tapestry, camels, donkeys & lots of doggie friends.
