HALLSTATT, AUSTRIA
Hey friends, come along with us and see what we did in the charming village of Hala, Austria. And no, we weren’t on a prison work gang. Hi, this is Scott from Scott and Tracy Traveling. Welcome to our channel where our motto is travel now. It may be later than you think. We caught a train from Salsburg and headed into the Austrian countryside. [Music] After a change of trains, we started to see some of the Sals Kamagoot, an area known for its lakes and mountains. [Music] We got off the train at the Holto station across the lake from the town. As we waited for the lake shuttle boat, we looked out at the town in the distance. [Music] The lake shuttle was a pretty short ride, but the views were awesome. [Music] We were excited because we passed the side of town that we would be staying in. It was all so cute. [Music] We didn’t know it at the time, but the fenced area where the people were standing is where the town’s iconic view is seen. [Music] [Music] The view of the town from the lake was amazing. [Music] After getting off the shuttle, we walked about a third of the mile to our room. [Music] We dropped off our bags and immediately started to walk through town. The center of town was busy with day trippers with many enjoying the main square. [Music] We stopped briefly to watch the waterfall before continuing on. To avoid some of the crowds, we took an upper lane in town that gave us a slightly better view. Back down on the busy waterfront path, we watch the action on the lake. [Music] These swans came to see if we had any food. Sorry, guys. Back at our room, we looked out at our lake view window. [Applause] The lake seemed to be a little rougher now. Then it started to rain [Music] and rain harder. [Music] Then add a little hail. [Music] About an hour or two later, the town was drier and almost deserted. [Music] The only indication of the rain were a few damp spots. We got an early start the following morning. However, there were already people at the iconic viewpoint. We joined them as the lake shuttle arrived in town. [Music] It is such a gorgeous scene. [Music] If you are returning to our channel, thank you for your continued support. If you’re new to our channel, we’re glad you found us. We are a retired couple who love to travel and hope our videos will inspire others to travel the world. Any questions or comments are welcome. [Music] [Music] On the far side of town was a nice river which we waited at for the finicular to start operating. The finicular will save us a halfhour hike up this hill. Getting on one of the first rides, we took the finicular uphill. [Music] From the upper station, we follow a path higher into the mountains. The early reservation we had was for the Saul’s Welton salt mine tour. Salt has been mined here for about 7,000 years. They gave us some protective clothing we could wear over our clothes and headed to the mine. [Music] We passed through several different types of support structures and an area with none at all. [Music] Then we came to the wooden slide. They said that traditionally miners would slide down between levels in the mine. It was like school recess again. [Music] This area reminded me of old bowling ball returns. That’s dating me. They had several multimedia displays explaining the 7,000-year history of salt mining here. Then they showed us an exposed face of salt. Then a longer slide. [Music] They actually recorded our speed. Wish we could have tried to improve it. [Music] Central. [Music] The final show was of a 3,000-year-old staircase they found here behind a few screen was the actual ancient stairs. Salt mining here was so important that there’s an archaeological age and culture named for Holto. Then we boarded what they call the mine train, which was actually like a moving picnic bench. The tunnel got really narrow and it saved us from having to walk back up to the surface. [Music] [Music] We enjoyed the scenery of the area as we walked the path down to the finicular. Near the upper station was an overlook. [Music] We joined the others looking out over the lake, the Hall sea, and the town of Holstad itself. [Music] Looking back, we see the salt mine building up the valley. Before heading down, we had lunch at this cliffside restaurant. [Music] [Music] On the way back to our room, we see the viewpoint in full swing. [Music] I especially love the tie-dyed shirt and the two monks taking pictures. On the railing and hanging overhead was the sign. We’ve seen similar ones like this in places like Santorini, and it’s very understandable. Later in the evening, we take one last stroll through town. At the big church up the hill was a beautiful cemetery. [Music] And the lake was so peaceful that evening. [Music] The following morning, luggage in hand, we head to the boat dock. It was a gorgeous day and the ride across the lake was marvelous. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Host was definitely a charming village. [Music] Thanks for watching and stay tuned to our future travel adventures.

Amazing video! I can’t wait to go there.
Halstatt is stunning. We visited there about 12 years ago and I was wondering if the crowds have made it unbearable by now, but it looks like you can still have a very nice time there. I suppose it’s very peaceful in the evening after the daytrippers have departed. Thanks for the beautiful tour.
Hallstatt looks absolutely magical.
Perfect place to relax and enjoy nature’s beauty.
