Saintes, an unlikely destination in France
I just published on French Revisited a new article about an unlikely place to visit in the new Aquitane region of Southwest France. Unlikely if you’re an American traveler, that is. Now, I’m not going to say that if you’ve never come this way, you’ve missed out on some overlooked gem or that you’ve got to get here before the barbarian hordes arrive. It’s just that I suspect that few Americans have ever visited this town by a bend in the Sha River. I mean, where’s the Sha River, right? Raise your hand if you know. So, I thought it would be nice to show you this town on the map and tell you a bit about what I saw and did there. It’s not that there are exceptional river views or that it has the most intact Roman ruins. Personally, I was thrilled to learn so much from archaeologists and gladiators, and I saw a Roman arch dedicated to a horrible self-erving ruling clan. You know the type. I stayed in a cell in a former nunnery and visited its church. What else did I do? Oh, I got the creeps in a dark crypt and I got a kick out of a weird museum and I swirled some delicious vintage brandy. All the while, I was thinking, can I honestly recommend that anyone go out of their way to visit this town? It’s called scent. S A I N T S. We don’t pronounce the final S. You’ll find the direct link to the article uh down there, maybe up there in some direction or or just go to France forvisited, francervisit.com. Well, you’ll find that article about scent and other unlikely and likely places as well related to life in Paris and travel in France. Answer it is
