Wandering Tokyo’s Anime and Gaming District, Akihabara in 2025
It’s been a while since I’ve returned to Akihabara, so thought it would be interesting to see how things have changed. What was once Tokyo’s largest electronics district 15-20 years ago, is not more of an entertainment district focused on gaming, anime, and arcades. The streets are filled with tourists and maids offering to come hang out with them. Things in the area are still rapidly changing with arcades seeming to close down one by one every year. I’m curious to see what the future holds for Akiba in another 10 years.

Found your videos recently and they've convinced me to finally commit to a return visit to Tokyo. My first and only trip so far was back in 2019 before the dark times. After Japan reopened, life got in the way so I haven't been back, but I'm changing that now! If I could afford a trip back every year, I absolutely would.

Oh wow this is a throwback to when I last visited Akhihabara in 2016. Was in the middle of my 3rd year at uni studying for my masters and we knew we wouldn’t get another chance so went all in. Would recommend everyone go at least once in their life.

It's interesting to watch videos like this. I don't like going to Japan because I'm not allowed in any shops. Foreigners are forbidden from entering about 99% of all establishments in Japan. Discrimination against foreigners is totally legal there. I wasn't even able to eat in a restaurant. I had to just stay in the hotel. Japanese people treat foreigners like dirt.
But it's fun to watch videos like this and imagine what it must be like to be able to walk around freely and to go in any shop you want to.
Yeah Japan is good to visit but all of their material goods are all expensive.
