Vogesen und Schwarzwald mit dem Motorrad | Scouting-Tour Letzte Folge mit vielen Reisetipps

It’s time for a new adventure with friends. Sometimes all you need are two wheels, a good friend, and a road that winds its way through the landscape. Join us on a six-day motorcycle trip that’s more than just riding – it’s a micro-adventure for the heart and soul through the low mountain ranges of eastern France and southwestern Germany. Our tour started five days ago on the German Wine Route in the Palatinate . From there, we rode the entire length of the Vosges Mountains from north to south and then continued through the southern and central Black Forest. We’ve already captured almost 60 exciting hotspots from our scouting tour in four videos – plenty of material! If you want to ride along from the beginning, just click on Episode 1 in the top right corner. And if the route captivates you so much that you want to ride it yourself on short notice without much planning, you can get the GPX tracks and a detailed roadbook with personal tips for the Vosges and Black Forest directly from me. Just check the video description or my website. A huge thank you for all your amazing feedback on the last few episodes! Every like, every comment – it’s incredibly motivating and shows that the effort is worthwhile. The feedback from those of you who even rode the route before winter is especially great. You guys are awesome! And now we continue: From the central Black Forest, we’re heading north – to well-known and hidden spots that not everyone knows about, but that every motorcyclist should definitely experience. Mystical forests, breathtaking views, winding roads, and a culinary highlight await us. Enjoy the ride! On the sixth day of riding, it’s time again: helmets on, engines on – and off we go on the final, very scenic 220-kilometer leg to the northern Black Forest – the grand finale together with Didi and his brand-new GS on the famous Black Forest High Road, with one or two worthwhile detours off the beaten track. Didi and I were the only early birds at the breakfast buffet at 7:30 a.m. We had already packed our luggage into the side cases beforehand, so we were able to check out at our leisure and were ready to go by 8:30 a.m. in glorious sunshine. We took small side roads on our last leg of the journey north. Our next stop was Triberg, where the world’s largest cuckoo clock awaited us. We had to be there by 9:00 a.m. at the latest, otherwise we’d miss the spectacle. So off we went to Triberg! I already gave you a brief glimpse of Triberg in Episode 3. Yesterday, however, we were out of luck – one of the world’s largest cuckoo clocks was closed. So today, Didi got to see a second “world’s largest” cuckoo clock. And this time, there was even a real musical interlude. Incidentally, it’s one of the most photographed places ever – so get your camera out and enjoy! Didi, himself an amateur musician and married to a watchmaker, was fascinated by the cuckoo clock. Now the figures were turning – how romantic! Everything we’re experiencing here – it’s truly amazing! Okay, enough with cuckoo clocks for now – the Black Forest has so much more to offer. We leave Triberg behind and follow the Gutach River downstream to its confluence with the Kinzig. From there, we continue north through the Wolfach Valley and climb up to the Kniebis Pass on the legendary Black Forest High Road, the B500. What the Route des Crêtes is to the Vosges Mountains, the Black Forest High Road is to the Black Forest. At almost 100 years old, it’s Germany’s oldest scenic route and runs at an altitude of 600 to 1000 meters along a magnificent ridge – with views that are simply breathtaking: pure Black Forest scenery, the Rhine Plain far below, and the Vosges Mountains on the horizon. One highlight follows another along the route: Lake Mummelsee, the National Park Center at Ruhestein, the Lothar Path, and many other spots that are worth seeing at least once. And yes – you immediately notice how popular the route is. The traffic is heavy. Many times higher than in the Vosges Mountains. For anyone traveling through the Black Forest for the first time, the B500 is definitely a must-do. You simply have to ride it at least once . If you become a repeat offender, you can easily leave it behind – because away from the main road, many quieter side roads await us motorcyclists, offering at least as much grip and panoramic views, but with significantly less traffic. After a few kilometers on the Black Forest High Road, we turn off to visit a special viewpoint: the Zuflucht (Refuge). At an altitude of around 959 meters, a panorama unfolds here that is simply breathtaking – the view stretches far across the Rhine Valley to the Vosges Mountains. A perfect moment to briefly let the engine rest, take a deep breath, and let this incredible expanse sink in. We ride back onto the Black Forest High Road and let the panorama carry us towards Mummelsee – the German Loch Ness. This legendary cirque lake lies at an altitude of approximately 1,028 meters, is about 240 meters long and 192 meters wide. At its deepest point, it reaches almost 18 meters – and according to legend, this is where the mysterious lake maidens frolic. No wonder the Mummelsee is one of the most visited lakes in Baden-Württemberg. Located directly on the Black Forest High Road, it’s the perfect place to take off your helmet, breathe in the crisp mountain air, and perhaps glance at the water’s surface – who knows, maybe the maidens will make an appearance. The lake gets its name from the white water lilies that used to grow here . Locally, they were called “Mummeln” – and that’s how the Mummelsee came about. Before the next tour buses arrive, we start the engine again and hop back on our bikes. We continue along the Black Forest High Road to the nationally renowned biker meeting point “Zur großen Tanne” (At the Great Fir Tree) in Unterstmatt, situated at an altitude of 930 meters. Here you’ll find a colorful mix of all motorcycle brands, and the atmosphere is always relaxed and biker-friendly. The daily changing menu features fine Black Forest specialties – and the selection of cakes is highly recommended! Even though we’ve just taken a break, Didi should definitely visit this iconic meeting place. The view of the Rhine Valley is truly stunning and makes the short stop more than worthwhile. After a brief stop, we cruise on along the Black Forest High Road to the Chapel of the Good Shepherd. There, we leave the B500 and take the turnoff to the Schwarzenbach Dam. In the background, you can hear the noon bell of the small chapel, which is only vaguely visible through the dense forest. Its round shape with the distinctive conical roof makes it a real eye-catcher. On the opposite side stands the old spa building, a true abandoned place whose weathered facade and morbid charm perfectly complement the mystical Black Forest atmosphere. Passing the valley station of the Mehliskopf cable car, the route continues at a leisurely pace through the Schwarzenbach Valley until we finally reach the impressive dam. A stop at the Schwarzenbach Dam is a must. The dam lies at an altitude of 668 meters, nestled between the Black Forest High Road and the Murg Valley. At two kilometers long, it is the largest lake in the northern and central Black Forest. The water is piped to Forbach, where it is used to generate electricity. This impressive structure was built between 1922 and 1926. Up to 2,000 workers – including many Italian craftsmen – were employed on the construction site at the time. The massive granite stones came from the surrounding quarries. The dam itself is a classic gravity dam with a volume of 285,000 cubic meters – still a true pioneering achievement in German dam construction. Its crest measures 400 meters in length and 65.3 meters in height. Behind it, a lake with a capacity of 14.4 million cubic meters of water is impounded. Thanks to its idyllic location, framed by the Black Forest mountains, the lake is a popular destination year-round. From May to September – weather permitting – you can even rent pedal boats or electric boats here. Next up for us is the Nagold Dam. This reservoir is one of Baden-Württemberg’s largest water storage facilities and, in the summer months, a popular destination not only for motorcyclists but also for surfers, divers, sailors, and other water sports enthusiasts. We’ll be having our lunch break right by the reservoir – on the terrace of a real hotspot for bikers: the “Zum Seeheimer” inn. This cozy guesthouse is situated on a tree-lined country road overlooking the reservoir and is popular with motorcyclists for good reason. The food is excellent – no wonder, since the owner lives by the motto that good food and drink simply make life better. Besides the rustic dining rooms, a beer garden awaits us. And the absolute highlight: a rotating terrace that completes a full rotation every 15 minutes, offering constantly changing views of the lake and the surrounding area. Special parking spaces are reserved for us motorcyclists, and the biker’s platter is hearty and delicious. After lunch, a relaxing power nap in a deck chair would be incredibly welcome, but we still have some real highlights ahead of us. So, let’s hop on our bikes! We’ll cruise along the Nagold Reservoir to the dam and then turn onto beautiful little forest paths. Our next destination: Enzklösterle, the ski resort with the longest lift in the entire Northern Black Forest. From there, the route takes us over to the next winter sports area, Kaltenbronn. There’s a hiking parking lot nearby with a fantastic view of the Murg Valley – perfect for a quick photo stop and to savor the moment. So, no pretending to be tired after lunch – the weather is great, the route is a blast, and that’s exactly why we’re here! In Enzklösterle, we turn towards Kaltenbronn and head for the Schwarzmiss Pass. At 933 meters, this pass connects the Murg Valley with the Enz Valley – a true classic in the Northern Black Forest. Once you reach the top, there are several parking areas for hikers, each offering a truly beautiful view. Perfect for a quick stop and a few photos before continuing. We’re not the only ones taking advantage of this hotspot for photos and videos, though. No wonder – the view is simply too good to pass up. You can feel that we’re getting closer and closer to the Mercedes-Benz plant in Gaggenau – because more and more perfectly restored classic cars are appearing. Wow, you’d probably have to shell out a six-figure sum for a gem like that . Beautiful to look at, but definitely not for us. We prefer to stick to the panoramic route and roll downhill towards Gernsbach an der Murg. There, the road climbs steeply again, because our next hidden gem is already waiting: the Teufelsmühle (Devil’s Mill). A fun climb – and at the top, there’s a view that will motivate you to keep going. The narrow forest road winds its way up to the Teufelsmühle mountain inn at around 908 meters – and a magnificent view awaits at the top. The Teufelsmühle itself is a mountain south of Loffenau in the Northern Black Forest, nestled between the Murg Valley to the west and the Alb Valley to the east. Right next to the inn stands the Teufelsmühle Tower, a historic observation tower dating back to 1910. It now stands at an impressive 16 meters tall. An extension was added in 1958, which was later converted into a hikers’ hostel. We were incredibly lucky: amateur radio operators were there and using the tower for their antennas – and as a result, we were even allowed to climb it. From the top, there was an absolutely fantastic panoramic view that more than made up for the effort of the late afternoon drive up. A few days ago, when we ventured into the Southern Black Forest, I led Didi to a legendary ice cream parlor – they served spaghetti ice cream that truly set a new standard. That’s exactly what Didi thought of, and he spontaneously said: “Come on, let’s treat ourselves to a farewell spaghetti ice cream on the promenade on the last day before we head off to the final highlight of our scouting tour on the Enz River.” So, without further ado – turn signal on! Set up and off we go! And I have to say, the food tastes just as good in the north as it does in the south. After the really good ice cream, we continue our relaxed journey – our final destination is already waiting. There’s a touch of melancholy, of course… the end of the tour is drawing near. For the finale, I’ve chosen a place that perfectly reflects the entire trip: the Hotel-Restaurant “Zur alten Mühle” (At the Old Mill). Right on the Enz River, quiet, charming, with a fish restaurant that, thanks to its own fish farm, is celebrated far beyond the region. Anyone wanting to eat there should reserve early – otherwise, you’ll quickly find yourself out of luck. This is exactly where we bring our tour to a close: first-class food, a relaxed atmosphere, simply good vibes. And I’m absolutely certain: Didi will celebrate the surprise like a bullseye on the perfect winding road. And with that, it’s history – our 2025 scouting tour. Six truly fantastic days of riding are behind us: through the southern Palatinate Forest, across the Vosges Mountains, and right through the Black Forest. And all this in almost summery temperatures in mid- May – we couldn’t have asked for better weather. In total, we covered around 1400 kilometers, stayed at three base hotels, and experienced elevation changes from 108 to 1350 meters. I prepared a total of 68 points of interest for the tour – plenty of material to keep the route interesting. From all this footage, I ended up creating four episodes with a total of 2.5 hours of film, a roadbook, and the GPS routes. If you ‘ve stuck with me this far: Thank you so much for your time and interest! And if you enjoyed the scouting tour, please give it a like, share the video, and leave a comment. I would really appreciate it, because your feedback is my reward, and for everyone else who just watches, it’s unfortunately worthless. That would be a shame. See you again soon on this channel, Jürgen
