Motorhoming to the warmest place in Finland we can find. Heading south to avoid the snow and ice.

B. Go for a walk. You coming? Come on then. Wood. Wood. Come on. Come on. Beautiful. Wood. Right. Come on. Come on. What’s this? Come on. What? Hello and welcome back to our super mega little chili YouTube channel. a channel of ducking and diving to avoid being in sub-zero temperatures, which as you can see, not really being that successful at, but that’s going to be the focus, I think, for the next few days for us. Where did we leave them last week? Where were we? Well, last time we left here, we were at Tampere, and the weather was set to go very, very chilly in most places in Finland, except for one place, which is where we’re heading to today. So yesterday we went to an amazing place. Another UNESCO intangible cultural heritage. Went to that glass thing. Yes, that was it. Was that the amazing place? Yes. Oh, we went to a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage center which is a glass village uh just outside Tampere. We went to observe some ladies blowing techniques and also to watch them handling bless. It wasn’t quite what I was expecting, I must admit. But there you go. I’m very excited because today there’s going to be quite a lot of blowing. We’ve just arrived at the glass village because, as you know, we like our UNESCO. Well, I do anyway. And there are four intangible c cultural heritage things about Finland. We’ve already done sauna. We’ve done fiddle sauna. We’ve done fiddle playing. So this blowing. This is glass blowing. And Finland has a cultural heritage inscription with UNESCO. I don’t know how else to phrase it. We’ve just arrived at the place. This guy welcomed us. a groundsman whipped us through the whole place to his friend’s gallery. So, we’re just I’m just propping me eyes open. So, we’re just going to have a look around and then make our way back and see if anybody’s doing any glass blowing today. So, we’re just going to make our way back now. We’ve had a look at Yian’s work. Very lovely. can creep under your bed and show up in your head. So, what the hell can you do? So, inside here there are lots of little glass blowing manufacturers, little workshops is the word I’m looking for. Walking. I’m sleep sleeping. Your fingers and edges just feel my empty. There is a nightmare that comes to me when the sun is going down. I’m screaming out my lungs. Have you ever tried to run your feet? I’ll ever be ready. So, this is a college class. They’re here on a vocational course to learn glass blowing. We’ve just been talking to the two ladies over there, the lady blowing there, and they’ve just learned today how to make a glass ball. Your fingers just feel my empty. These are all pieces that have been made by the students. Well, that was very interesting. We picked a good day cuz the students were busy making glass BS. We watched them. Nice cake and coffee in the coffee shop, but the museum is shut. So, we’re just having a little wander around small mercies this area. There’s lots of little workshops in the glass village. So, we’ve just spotted some glass bobbles. So, we’ll go and have a look at those and then we’ll go back to board cuz he’s back in the van. This is what we’re trying to avoid by heading south. No more ice for a bit. Feel of things you should take a breath. Cut the lights. Touch your mouth and close your eyes. Sleep walking now. Sleep walking. I’m dripping through my day. Wake me up and freak me out. Oh, sleep walking. I’m sleep sleeping. Your fingers in their gestures my empty. I’m a mirror gold bing. So wo out fisherman can like just fully let go. Small bins on the outside, big bins on the inside. After all that excitement, we headed further south and we’re just outside quite a big city called Turko Tur. One second. We get a lot of stick for pronouncing these wrong. So, I just need to go back to my Google advisor, Turo, which is what I said. And we’re now just at a little marina called Karina. Karina Marina. After that, I say Karina Marina. We had a very peaceful night here, didn’t we? But by moving here, we’ve avoided some of the more extreme weather. But then we got here and it snowed. Only a light dusting. No YouTube drama. Uh, but it did get – 6 last night with a minus 10 windchill factor. So, it’s pretty cool really. But there’s no wind, so it actually doesn’t feel that bad, does it? No. But we are now off to catch the ferry to go to warmer climbs and head to the islands. We’re going to an island where it’s warm. That’s what I’ve been promised. Although the snow’s on its way. So, this morning’s tasks, fuel, water. We’re heading to the islands. So, I want to get stocked up uh cuz we might be there for a few days whilst the world falls out. There’s supposed to be a right big old massive snow storm coming. So, wherever we are, I think we’re going to get it. So, might as well get it somewhere where it’s a little bit warmer. But, you know what weather forecasts are like. It might be all just YouTube drama down. Oh. Rock and roll is an old man begging for a smile. Wiped off that diet frown. She’s pulling all the strings. Well, she stole the key to her Mercedes bending now. She’s on her knees. Oh, slow, slow. Oh, she’s breathing slow. So, slow. Oh, she’s freezing in the cold. Bad dog for strain from my side. So, they gone be gone. Sweet dreams I so bad. You’re so bad on me. Three more dear. Oh, slow. Our first white tailed eagle. Now she’s freezing when I’m coming. Well, welcome to the positively tropical island of Corpo. I’m well warm. We caught two fairies today and drew and drove over loads of bridges to get here. We drew over them as well, didn’t we? We’ve seen loads of deer and we’ve seen a sea eagle. And it’s actually, although it don’t feel it, 60ยฐ warmer than when we set off this morning. It were – 6 this morning with a wind chill like – 10. And here it’s zero. So, it’s really good. There’s supposed to be a massive snow thing coming tomorrow late. by which time we’ll we’ll be up and away. But we find this little park up and it’s wiffy, isn’t it? It is. We are trying to be strategic with our planning. So, we’ve come here today because this was the warmest place. As Andrew has just said, the snow comes in tomorrow afternoon. So, we’re going to go back onto Nagu Nagu Nag Island to be in the town then for when the snow comes and then we can get off on the other ferry once it’s warmed up the day after. Yeah. And then if all goes wrong and we can’t move, we’ll be in this little town. We’ve already scored it out. There’s a bar, this uh petrol station, supermarket. Supermarket. So, if we had to stay there a few days, it wouldn’t be like a problem till sort of snow blew over. So, no YouTube drama, just common sense. If ever there was anything that comes out of Andrew’s mouth, come on, bud. Well, this is a little bit more snow than we expected last night. So, we’re up now and we just got to get up that hill and get back to the safety of the town on the next island. It won’t predict all this snow, will it not? Not as much. Not as much. If we do, we’re going to have some YouTube drama. Wait for today’s dump of snow. We’re supposed to get I hope this is it. Just go and see what the main road looks like. Uh yeah, I’m just going to drive. We’re only a couple of miles off. Yeah. Fingers crossed. Here it goes. We’re having a change of plan. We’ve now assessed the weather in this whole region. Today was always going to be the pinch point and we were going to stay here at Nagu, but we’ve got now 15 cmters of snow coming today here. It gets less as we get towards the mainland, but then we’ve got a couple of days of freezing temperatures. So, we’re going right out of the way. We’re coming right out of this area and we’re heading down to Hanko on the bottom of Finland where we shall have very little snow and temperatures will be a lot warmer. It ju it just shows really you need to be flexible because the the weather changes overnight. We weren’t expecting we would have parked to where we did last night if we were expecting to wake up in two or three inches of snow at bottom of a slope. So and and and having to drive back here on untreated roads and so on. So it just changes. So you just got to adapt. So yeah, there you go. Plan B. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Well, we’ve got rid of minus 6 and snow and we swapped it for a lovely warm plus two and proper windy. We’re going to go and explore a bit more of Hanko today and tomorrow, I think. So, we’re going to pop over to the other side of the island and see what’s over there. There’s quite a few popup peninsula. There’s quite a few popups around here, so we’re going to stay put avoiding a big storm um storm of snowy weather coming. Um, so we might just mix it up and stop in one or two different places rather than pitching up the same place for a few nights so that we’re not bothering anybody. Very beautiful. Yeah. Oh, it smells lovely. Right, boys. Come on. You really do need to get up. Come on. Come on. Come on. It is raining and we are very happy about that which uh might seem a bit strange cuz everywhere else in the whole of Finland has got a massive blanket of snow covering it. So we strategically all because of my thoughts moved to this spot to avoid that. And we are plus temperatures and rain rather than snow which has also allowed me to dig out my super mega uros rain hat which I’m sure you’ll agree is very stylish. Just for clarification, I don’t think it’s snowing in every single part of Finland, but certainly in this area, we’ve escaped it. Unlike the UK, which is currently in heaps of snow in certain parts, blizzards and schools shutting down and stuff. So stay safe on the roads if you are in one of those snowy areas. Well, it’ll be about two weeks ago now before they watch this. So, so we hope you stayed safe when you watching this a few weeks ago. So last night we moved spots in Hankov. We’re still here. We just moved to the other side of town to a little forest park forest car park at the Frisbee golf course. They love a bit of Frisbee in Finland, don’t they? They do. Really? We reckon it’s because it’s above ground so when it snows you can still come and do something. That’s our theory. It’s not my theory. Maybe if you are Finnish and you like your frisbee golf, let us know what the crack is. Hey, sexy chat GPT voice. Hey there, I’m here and ready to help. Let me know what you need and I’ll do my best to assist. I’d like to know why Frisbee golf is so popular in Finland. Is this unique to Finland or not or what? Yeah, absolutely. Disc golf or frisbee golf is actually super popular in Finland and it’s not just unique to Finland. Uh it has a strong following in other countries as well, especially in the US and Sweden, but Finland definitely has a huge disc golf culture, partly because of its abundant forests and natural landscapes, which make for perfect courses. Plus, it’s pretty affordable and accessible, which helps a lot. Well, thank you very much. You’re very welcome. If you have any more questions or want to chat about anything else, just let me know. Is this a helpful thing in Finland because it snows a lot so they can still play even when it’s snowing? Absolutely. That’s definitely part of the appeal. Disc golf is really adaptable to different weather conditions. And in Finland, people do enjoy playing even in the snow. Uh there are courses designed for winter play and it keeps the sport going year round. It definitely adds a unique twist to the game. She’s she goes on more than you do. Yeah, but I were right though, weren’t I? So, number one, you’ve got about there through the woods. What par is it? Wow. Par three. That’s sun going that flick it up to junction. Flick it up to thing. I could do that in three. We’ll do that with one of your pieces of bacon. When we arrived in Hanko, the first thing I did was look on the town’s website to see what’s here to see and do. And I was so surprised to see it promoting dog friendliness. So today, we’re going to go and find out just how dog friendly Hancock really is. That’s a nice apartment for 400 cent. So this is the Liberty Monument and these two lions guard this monument and one is called Conrad and one is Aurora and this is to commemorate the liberation of Finland from the Germans. from all the things. So, at the end of the 1800s, this became a spa town and some really posh villas were built and the Russians used to come over and holiday here and some of them are absolutely beautiful. So, we’re just doing the villa walk to go and have a look at them. down. This is the casino, but it looks like I don’t think it was ever a casino. I’ll have to check, but it looks now like it’s not being used. See, it looks in good knit inside. Yeah, I think it maybe it’s just a summer time. This is the water tower. And in summer, you can go up in the lift at the top, but it’s closed now. And it is one of the most recognizable features of the town. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Hanko. Lord help us is looking at hats. So in Finland tomorrow is the big Christmas switch on in most of the towns. I think yet again we’ve escaped the snow and the cold. This morning we were 5 degrees warmer than the town half an hour in land and about 10 degrees warmer than Scotland who at this time got something like minus 12 the a record-breaking temperature in the last 15 years. So uh so it’s worked out quite well really. It does. So, let’s just get out and about like we did yesterday Jesse because we went into the town of Hanko Hanko which was as it described very dog friendly and very friendly in general. We had a lovely chat with the lady at the tourist information center and she was telling us that she like 50% of the people that live here speak Swedish and Finnish which is why every sign we’ve seen they’ve got both languages and obviously spoke perfect English so it’s just amazing really we we struggle with our own language and went to a lovely cafe we had some lunch everyone was really engaging with us weren’t they you know with a dog and with us so Yeah, Finland’s really friendly people. If you are watching and you’re Finnish, uh, thanks for being really friendly. Well, good morning. Another lovely Finnish morning. A heady six degrees today. As warm as Burnley. Heavy what? Headache meaning warm. We are going for a walk in the troll forest. We’re following the yellow signs and we’re going to go and see if we find some trolls. And it’s actually no more wrapped up quite warm, isn’t it? It is. It’s really mild. I can’t believe that we’re still in these temperatures at this time of year in Finland. It’s just made travel so much easier. It’s the same temperature here, six degrees as it is in Burnley at home. I just said that. Did you? Yeah. I didn’t hear you say that. That’s cuz you don’t listen to me. No. No. But I was going to say it differently. I was going to say it in an interesting way. He’s so rude. I’ve actually got two hats on as well as me. Snood. So, I think it’s affecting the general hearing, but I am warm. words you’d never hear your saying. We were just commenting on how lovely it is to walk in Finnish Woods. Really clearly signed where you need some assistance. They’ve put put these walkways in, but other than that, you just feel like you’re following the contours of the land. It’s so nice. And we can’t hear a soul. This wood’s also called the enchanted forest. And I don’t know about any trolls, but it’s certainly a very enchanting place to be. Andrew just nearly fell over off camera. It’s highly hilarious. Yeah, it’s only cuz I’ve got like um cat-like reflexes that avoided a disaster. Oh jeez, it’s slippy there. Look on the wind. This is why we shouldn’t be perched here. I like it here. Right, stand still then. My pocket was frisky. Well, after a after a near death experience here, YouTube drama. So, yesterday we had an hour or so pottering around Ekinas, which which was enough, which was a nice little wooden old town as usual. It was a bit chilly. We love these. Oh, it’s going to get run. Oh, no. No. No. Stop. Oh, it going to get run over there. We stayed there overnight in one of the little quiet car parks and then this morning we drove about 40 minutes to an old iron works that’s now a community of creatives. It’s a bit like an artisan shopping center. It is. And it’s at a place called Fiskers Village which was really nice. Don’t go on a Monday because or do go on a Monday because a lot was shut and we just managed to potter in a couple of shops and that was it really, wasn’t it? Yeah. Go on a Monday. And now we’ve driven half an hour again right into the countryside into this beautiful spot and we’re the only ones here as usual. Yeah, it’s a lovely park up. Buddy seems very happy sat over there. There’s a fire pit. There’s logs. There’s actually a composting toilet. It’s beautiful. So, we’ll have a nice quiet night here and then do the same tomorrow. But that is where we leave you for this vlog. You’ll be very pleased to know next week we’re off back into nature for our final week of trying to find any moose before heading into Helsinki for some festive fun. Thank you very much for watching. Thanks for your uh YouTube comment Bance because it’s really funny. There’s some very talented comedians out there. So, cheers. Well, just be careful when you don’t just be careful. I’m waiting for you to get off and I can use it as the outro.

In this vlog we’re trying our best to keep away from the white stuff! Are we successful? You’ll have to see but yes and no! Some more amazing places to see and stay as we finish week 9 in Finland.

  1. Sorry I've got some catching up to do,looks like I will be watching your travels backwards ๐Ÿ™ˆ
Surprising how travelling a short distance the weather is so different.
Gutted to miss Andrew nearly falling, that would of made some good watching ๐Ÿ˜‚
    Finland looks gorgeous ๐Ÿ˜Š

  2. Well done at avoiding the bad weather, canโ€™t blame Bud for wanting to stay in the warmth ๐Ÿ˜† itโ€™s amazing to watch glass blowing, years ago we went to a glass blowing place in Norfolk, amazing. Your cat-like reflexes are serving you well Andrew ๐Ÿˆโ€โฌ› ๐Ÿ˜‚

  3. I wonder why the coat is advertised as 'Baerskin' instead of 'Bearskin'. I get those YT adds about the coats here in Finland for some reason as well. The "joke" is that 'bรคrskin' is 'berryskin' , which wouldnt be warm at all. F: Lapland. The warm stuff is something you wear for snowmobiling, downhill skiing, or winterfishing.

  4. Another great vlog, thanks. Your organizing skills are second to none. Buddy is a star in the making. We have Finnish friends who we met on our travels & lovely people. ๐Ÿ‘

  5. Good god I nearly put the heating on ๐Ÿ˜‚
Buddy like my eldest dog flips over for a tummy rub rather than get up , yes sheโ€™s got me wrapped around her paw too ๐Ÿฆฎ๐Ÿ•

  6. you do know that snowstorms create worst driving conditions where it is warmer?

temperatures oscillating into the above freezing realm give you the nice iceroads.

ps: us finns are not friendly.. we are just too slow witted to come up with abrasive responses in time…

  7. The hat score today must be Andrew 15, Jane 2!! Coats/jackets Andrew 4, Jane 1. Yes like my husband with his extensive wardrobe for his motorcycle kit I know what Jane must feel like wearing the same gear day in day out. I loved the glass blowing so clever. My husband made a comment about the best blowers are always women. Lovely trip.

  8. Nice one Mr Pilks, how do you stop the van from freezing up. She must be well lagged! Do you leave the heating on all night? How long are you able to stay off grid in those conditions before you need to hook back up to the mother ship? Nice video btw ๐Ÿ˜Šโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆ

  9. Really good vlog thank you. Being from St.helens the glass blowing was lovely to see. It probably won't be long before you are back in good old blighty, i do hope you have further planned trips to keep us all hooked. As ever keep up the great content it really is enjoyed and appreciated ๐Ÿ˜Š

  10. Great stuff again. All those short distance ferries are paid with tax money, so they are free for users. Some vessels in ร…land archipelago and Houtskari-Iniรถ route (which is operated only in summer) have fees.

  11. Hi AJB,

Many Thanks for uploading this vlog.

Really enjoyable – informative and funny as per usual ๐Ÿ‘

No YouTube drama – Just common sense ๐Ÿ‘

Have you had a 4G signal everywhere you've been? We have a 2010 Adria Twin and would worry about breaking down in the remote areas ๐Ÿ˜ข

    Thanks

    David & Gillian

  12. You have interesting time to visit here in finland. Many peoples come in summer when its warmer. But you saw different time of the year, great. Just fyi, its +4 and no snow currently here near Lahti.

  13. On this video you were on my hoods and stayed overnight under the bridge of Vattkast (also Wattkast) in Korppoo. Today in archipelago (Nauvo/Nagu) +6C and rain (a lot๐Ÿ˜ค). No sight of winter๐Ÿ˜ข. Yes, AI was right, frisbee golf is very popular here in Finland, all year around๐Ÿฅ

  14. Love Buddy… we've got a 13yr old golden retriever and she loves a good snooze in the motorhome.
By the way Andrew I couldn't remember who you reminded me of with your rainhat on then I watched an Elma Fudd cartoon and it came to me๐Ÿ˜‚

  15. A great informative funny vlog as always very scenic driving in snow is no fun some great park ups safe travels you 3 ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐ŸŽ„โ„๏ธ๐Ÿ•

  16. Loving this series.
We notice you use a dedicated Sat Nav rather than your phone or tablet. Is there a reason for this and what make and model do you use.
Keep up the great work on the vlogs and have a safe enjoyable time.
    Patricia and Glyn.

  17. Liking the vids. Epic trip. Could really fancy doing a similar. Iโ€™d be interested to hear the costs ( fuel. Ferry, eating out etc)and mileage covered. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘
