This truffle-hunting experience comes with a 5-course truffle lunch | Hawkes Bay, Aotearoa

Truffle hunting in New Zealand! We didn’t know you could do this outside of Europe, because we’ve really only associated truffles with Italy. But lo and behold, a handful of farmers throughout New Zealand and particularly the Hawke’s Bay have invested time and money into innoculating tree roots with the truffle fungus so that we could have our very own New Zealand-grown truffles. A couple of these farms also offer experiences that allow people to try their hand in digging some up during the winter months of June, July, and August. The Manse, a luxury lodge with personalised experiences, teams up with truffle growers in the region to provide the best experience.

This was an unforgettable moment for us – digging through dirt in the most amazing Hawke’s Bay weather with truffle grower Tim (Timandra Truffles) and Chef Gary (The Manse), learning about the care and time required for growing truffles, listening to their joy and passion for this one funny little fungus, and experiencing every moment for ourselves. This is a bucket list experience that we would recommend to anyone looking for a special culinary moment.

  1. sounds like yet another nice outdoor experience.

on another irrelevant note. i was thinning that if AI can be used to study diseases because they are really got at spotting the tiniest irregularities in data, perhaps the day to figure out the ideal conditions to mass cultivate black truffel wont be too far away either! (though they'd still be sold at a premium for max profit zzz)
