Storm Byron Hits Paphos – Part 1
Hi, it's Dominic from Papos Live blown about in the wind. I'm down at Papos Seafood today. I'm going to have a walk along the seafront then up into Caso Papos. I'm not going to get too close to the edge because uh there's a bit of a gale blowing at the moment. Storm Byron is out in force. It's not raining here though, so uh I'm going to try and do it filming as much as I can in one uh scene, so to speak. So, I might have to rethink that if it does start raining again because uh these 360 cameras, they are probably the worst for being out in the uh rain cuz their lenses are so big. They uh show up water very easily. But storm biomes here and we had lots of rain last night. It won't fill up the reservoirs yet, but it's certainly a step in the right direction. Cool. There's some big waves crashing against the seafront there. Now try and pay attention to see where the uh spray is landing. Stand just to the side of that. There probably be a few brakes in that case to actually just wipe the lens. I might move the microphone a bit closer to me mouth. Hopefully you should be able to hear me a bit better now. Gosh, it is windy though. Oh, that'll do for that. There a few people about. There's actually uh I think it was a fun run though. It could have been a more serious event. I'm not sure. But they closed the road by the roundabout just before the harbor car park. And I can see lots of contestants. So they were lucky that the rain hasn't really seemed to be that prominent down at the seafront. It's been a lot more up in PMI area. We've had an awful lot which is good cuz hopefully that means Canabu Reservoir will also have had a lot. If the camera's a little bit wobbly, it's because I can't use the gimbal in the wind cuz it just gets uh blown about too much. So, I'm having to rely on the mount I normally stick on the roof. But it's better than nothing. Feeling more spray on me now. Little bit of seaweed washed up. It's not as bad as we've seen in the past though, by any stretch of the imagination. In previous years, you've had uh lots of rocks and pebbles washed up and covering the uh the walkway here. There's Elan. Just think I'm actually on the webcam at the moment. A slightly blurred version of me. Try and get a bit more close. I'm not going to see fish boy today. Oh, look over there though. That's nice. So this could be Papos seafront as you've never seen it before if you've only visited during the summer. Oh, that's going to be a lens wipe, I think. Sorry about that. Oh, I think I can feel a few drops on my head now as well. I'll see if I can make it up to Ba before I have to take other measures like doing it in little scenes. Yeah, the rain's coming in. >> I wonder if I can get an umbrella in one of these uh market stores. Mind you, the way the wind's blowing, if you look at those uh trees up there, an umbrella would be quite redundant. Anyway, there's fish boy. All right, might as well embrace the wet. Have a quick lens wipe and we'll keep going. I wish it had been raining when I started. I wouldn't have walked all this way. I don't think there's going to be any swimmers in there today. Well, at least not at the moment. I'm certainly not walking in front of it. I love it. Oh, getting my feet wet here. All right. A little bit of shelter here. Have to excuse any droplets of rain on the camera. But I'm going to get up here and have a rethink of my plans. I think I had intended going up to the New St. Paul's Museum and finishing this film there. and then coming back from there to the harbor in a different film. Suppose it is still an option. It's nice and dry here though, so I think I'm going to enjoy that. I can come in here and film a bit though. Oh, mind the steps. Quite a bit of seaweed washed up there. Yeah, I might as well carry on with my plan cuz I got to walk back to the car anyway. Wee. Sorry. Nice big waves. Got to watch where I'm walking, though. My problem now is that my glasses are all wet. There's T for two. Dark clouds that way. Lovely site though. Nature in its glory. Oh, here comes some more runners. More umbrella going for Burton. And up there's Penguino Cafe. Always like to recommend them. I'll walk through here. Now, it's a bit more sheltered here as well. Now, in the second film I'll be doing, that'll include the area around the castle, and that's normally great for big waves. >> Not sure which one I'll put out first, though. Those been blown over. Those flowers. No point me uh uprighting them. They'll only blow over again. Right. So this is Dian's central hotel. Roast and grill corner. Looks like Mandra Tavern is closed for the winter break. I imagine a few places are the Flintstones seems shut as well. as do democrats. I remember there's a cat over there which I remember seeing when it was a little kitten here. One of my earlier films. Now he's all grown up. Hello. Bit bustled by the weather, are you? There's Baywatch. Let's go up this way and turn left to the top of Bar Street and we can finish by acce bar. Now you can't tell from that brown sheing whether Baywatch is closed or not because they have that up even if they just closed during the day. But all the seats are stacked neatly inside, which would indicate to me at least that they're possibly shut more permanently until the new season. Though I could be wrong. In a previous year, after a storm, there was a lot of damage in this square. And so far I can't see a repeat of that. So that's good at least. Looks like the rain stopped as well again. You got Sophia Resort on the right. And I'll stop just opposite AC's bar. I think they won't be open. It's a good place to end. Okay. Well, in the other film, next film, I'm going to be walking back to the seafront and harbor and finding out what's going on at St. Paul's Pillow area. Cheers.
Cyprus is currently in the grip of storm Byron. It is bringing much-needed rain to the reservoirs, and blowing the cobwebs and dust off all the outdoor murals in the Archaeological Park. This morning I went for a walk along the Sea Front and Kato Paphos, during a relatively calm spell, to photograph the wind and rain as the waves hit the boardwalk. In Part 1 I cover the Sea Front and Kato Paphos up to Sofianna Resort.

wheres the storm?
This looks like a UK summer's day. 😂
Even though it’s blustery and a bit wet, lovely to see people still wearing shorts and t shirts….glad you’re getting some much needed rain.
Looks so different to when we were there in October. ❤😮
I’m currently in Paphos and today was a complete washout. It absolutely lashed it down at times.
I have always said that Paphos sea front needs a curved wave return wall to redirect the waves back out..
Can you get your drone out on the dams please
Thanks for sharing. I visited Cyprus twice. Stay safe out there.
Great video Dominic, thanks for sharing! We're over soon, I wonder if we will see some storms over Christmas! Can't wait to get back.
Great video Dom, shame about the weather, bit grim!
It still looks lovely. 🇨🇾💕
