Discover the Hidden Stories of Auschwitz Prague: An Emotional Journey
We arrived Oshwis earlier to avoid the crowd. [music] This is going to be a somber tour today. Oshwiss was the largest of the German Nazi concentration and extermination camps operating in occupied Poland during World War II. [music] It has become the most prominent symbol of the Holocaust and a global site of genocide. This is some of the buildings here. As we walk further down, there are even more buildings. >> [music] >> We were told by our guide that there are many types of buildings here. Some of the buildings are for housing of the prisoners and some are for torturing and experiments. [music] [music] >> [music] [music] >> This is the map where the Nazis have captured all the Jewish prisoners and brought to Oshish. These are cam cuts of Soviet [music] prisoners of war. This is a list of prisoners in Oshish. The Nazis have transported train loads of Jewish people [music] to Oshwish. These are poison canisters that were used to kill the prisoners. We shall see how they did that in later part of the video. We were told that the Nazis have separated all the items from the prisoners and see how much they have collected. These are all the pictures of the men and women in Ostrich. The bathrooms and where their sleeping bed is. We are going to the courtyard where the prisoners are brought here to be shot. The infamous block 10 and 11 where the courtyard is in between. Now we are going to the building where the prisoners were executed using poison [music] gas. And as we saw the canisters earlier [music] >> [music] >> As you see in front, this is not a hill. This is a bunker or building where prisoners were [music] brought here to be executed using the poison gas. We were told that the prisoners were squeezed [music] and locked into this chamber and then the Nazi would throw the poison canister from a hole on the roof [music] into the chambers and killing all the prisoners. This is the crematorium in Ostrich and was told that it was running 24/7 [music] at that time. Our visit to Oshwish have ended and as we are driving away we see many other areas of the camp and I hope this will be the end of any [music] genocide and holocaust in the world. >> [music] >> I don’t know. This is the old town of Virclaw, Poland. [music] It is a very big square and there are many restaurants and shops in this square. [music] >> [music] [music] >> There are some people here and we saw the historical rock town hall. [music] We saw this historic restaurant in the cell of the old town hall. It’s called one of the most beautiful town. [music] >> The town hall have the oldest clock in Poland dating back to 1368. Throughout the city we have seen many [music] of these small statues and it is called Buraclaw dwarves. Apparently this has been appeared since 205. >> [music] >> This is the inner court of a former prison. [music] And now there is a restaurant here. >> While walking along the streets, we saw someone playing a flute at St. John of Nepo Monument. Bye-bye. >> Next, we walk past Pasco Bridge, which was built in 1861, connecting the old town with Sand Island. view of [music] Tumski Island where you see the Oda river and the cathedral of St. John the Baptized. There are also love locks in Tumsky’s bridge. After visiting all these beautiful places, [music] we are going shopping just like any other tourist. We are in Prague [music] today and we managed to see the change of guards in the Prague Castle. Oh yeah. >> [music] >> Nearby there’s a street performer and you can dress up like the king in the night and shining armor. Chop chop chop chop. >> I can teach you something in check if you want. Okay, say it means thank you. >> From the Prague Castle, you have a nice overview of the city. Foreign speech. Foreign speech. Foreign speech. >> [music] >> As we visited Prague Castle, we came to the second courtyard of the castle. >> [music] [music] >> We are now visiting St. Peter’s Cathedral and it has a Gothic architecture. >> [music] >> We went into St. Peter’s Cathedral to have a look. >> This is the onet silver tomb of St. John of Nepom. We walk around the church to explore the beauty of the architecture. This is the golden lane known for its tiny colorful [music] houses. It was originally built for castle guards and later house goldmith and other artisans. Having another view of the city [music] as we come down from the hills of Prague Castle. [music] Here’s my water. Here you can see >> the bridge for lovers. Yes. With pedworks. Last year we had >> interesting bridge for lovers. And they have a river with a gondola, right? Just like in Venice. >> This is Charles Bridge, an icon of Prague and Zack Republic. It is also one of the few medieval bridges still standing and in use today. This bridge is the most famous [music] untouched. Our guide told us that the Hollywood [music] movie Mission Impossible One was filmed here as well. >> Date for construction of this bridge. This beach was called 9th of July 1357 at 5:31 p.m. Yeah, it sounds complicated, but if you already write it down, it’s easy. It looks like 13579. Then it’s going down 7531 as a pyramid. Yes. So only odd numbers still exist to our date. I am sure that you saw this vision lot of Hollywood movies. We mentioned Mission Impossible, the first part with Tom Cruz. Yes. So in that movie he ran from this side to the opposite side in 5 seconds. So as you can see it was really mission impossible. [laughter] >> How come we long? Uh so now we both take a break on the bridge. Yes. Usually we giving here 15 minutes and please listen to me everybody please find important place to go inside. So 15 minutes. [music] A beautiful view of the river from the bridge and you can see the both sides of the island. Further down you will see the bridge tower. Also [music] this bridge was built by Emperor Charles 4 which started construction in 1357. There’s an outdoor terrace below overlooking the Vitaya River and a view of Charles Bridge. >> We crossed the bridge and as we walked along we saw the Museum of Medival torture. In the street we saw chimney cake and some with ice cream on top of it. We have reached [music] the old town square in Prague and we managed to get a glimpse of her performance there. [music] [music] >> Actually, we were more interested to see the front astronomical clock. It is a medieval clock on the old town hall that shows astronomical information and puts on an hourly show [music] of proving figures. It is built in 1410 almost finished. >> This is the view of the old town [music] square and it was full of people. [music] >> Astronomer clock running since 600 years ago. 30 minutes free time here. [music] >> 30 minutes. >> It’s okay. We come back here tomorrow. >> What? Our guide told us we have only 30 minutes. But luckily, we are coming back again tomorrow. 6:00. [music] Okay. 5:45 here. Okay. Walk around. >> Now, we only have 30 minutes. So, we quickly look around the old town square, but we’ll be back here tomorrow again. trying to watch the moving figures in the astronomical clock, but I guess it is not time yet. On the way back, we had our long limosine to pick us up. Haha. No, it’s the cabaret shows limosine to fetch their customers. Today is our last day of our trip and we are going to the old town square again. In the opposite you will see the Prague Castle as we have went there yesterday. >> Okay. So we will [music] uh reverse take a Uturn come back here and view and then we went to On. Okay. [music] >> Arrive at Oldtown Square and we tried South Street F. They sell sausages and ham [music] and they were grilling the pork at the side of the store. >> [music] [music] >> Thank you very much. [music] >> [music] [music] >> At another stall they had chimney cakes. And this is how they make the chimney [music] cakes. This is the municipal house and it [music] has very beautiful architecture. It was built around 1380. [music] [music] Now we saw another store selling chimney cake. So we decided to try it. [music] We came to the old town hall again and we finally see the astronomical block with all the figurines coming out. [music] >> [music] [music] [music] >> Finally, it is the end of our trip.
