Riding a Yamaha XMAX 300 From Cyprus to South Africa: An Adventure Across Africa #xmax300 #xmax

I’m Nico. Start again. We do this. Stop recording. Hi, I’m Nico. Okay, take two. [laughter] >> Okay, we do it one more time. >> I’m Nico and I’m on an overland trip from Cyprus to South Africa. I’m the first person crazy enough to do it with the Yamaha X-Maxx. All right, enough of the theatrics. Let’s be real. Like I said, I’m riding across Europe and onto Africa on a Yamaha X-Maxx. Yeah, you heard that right, a maxi scooter. And as far as I know, I’m the first person to attempt this journey with [music] this bike. And if not, I’m definitely the first criate to try. Feel free to prove me wrong in the comments. My journey started when I rolled off the ferry from Cypress to Athens, and I’ve been riding ever since [music] from Europe right into the heart of Africa. Along the way, I’ve tried to volunteer in each country and [music] connect with local communities and learn from the cultures I come across. The X-Maxx has been a beast, reliable as ever. But spare parts, maintenance, and mechanics who know this bike not easy to find. Now, I’m not the first to do this journey. Many have crossed Africa on everything from Vespas to huge overland trucks. But this journey on this bike is a whole different kind of challenge. I thought I was prepared. But Africa has a way of testing every plan you think you have. At times, I really felt like giving up, turning around and going back to Europe. But I don’t regret a minute of it. Every experience, every country, every person I met, I discovered beauty and culture that make this continent so unique. The local communities, the projects, and the people I met motivated me to continue even when I felt like giving up. So, join me for the ride. This journey is just getting started and I’m hoping for an unforgettable arrival in South Africa. If you’re somewhere along my route, give me a message. I’d love to connect on the way. If you want to see a little bit more stories like this, be sure to subscribe on YouTube. I’ll be sharing them there. So until then, I’ll see you on the road. >> Yo. [laughter] Okay. Come, come, come, come. These are my friends, my photographers. [laughter] >> What’s your name? >> Richard. >> Richard. You from Ghana? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. And you? >> Michael. >> You ride moto, too? >> Yeah. >> No. You want to learn? >> Yeah, I ride. >> You ride moto. You didn’t wait for me. You didn’t wait for me. Oh, take a bola. >> Okay. See you later. Oh, belola time. Okay. Take some [music] biscuit. You share them. You share them, huh? >> Where’s my drink? >> Where’s my drink? Where’s your sister? >> And my baby. >> Drink one for [music] sister. >> Yeah. Share. You share. You share. Bye-bye. Okay. >> Where are you from? >> Chipre. >> Cypress. Eu. [music] Going. >> But Cyprus is in in Chen. >> Yes. >> Cypus is into the chen. >> Eu. Yes. >> It’s not necessary. Oh, I don’t need to stamp anything. Okay. I don’t know. I’m supposed to stop her. >> One answer. This GoPro. >> What? What number? >> Uh 12. 12. >> 12. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Okay. I thank you.

Forget the stereotypes. Iโ€™m riding a Yamaha XMAX maxi-scooter from Cyprus all the way to South Africa. As far as I know, no oneโ€™s done it before on this bike, and I might just be the first Cypriot to try.

This journey kicked off when I rolled off the ferry from Cyprus to Athens, and Iโ€™ve been on the road ever since. Through Europe and into Africa, Iโ€™ve been volunteering in local communities, learning from new cultures, and navigating everything from busted roads to finding rare scooter parts in remote towns.

Africa has challenged every plan I came in with. There were moments I wanted to give up. But the people I met, the landscapes I rode through, and the support from communities kept me going.

This is more than just a bike trip. Itโ€™s a journey of connection, discovery, and pushing limits.
