Bucharest Travel Suggestions Romania Visitation Guide for 2025

Hello everyone and welcome to the Transit Nomad family Bookucharest travel suggestions and Romania visitation guide for 2025. Before we get started, I’d like to let you know that as an active traveler and business owner with experience, I might be able to assist you with trip planning, life coaching, and business consulting. with all the details available at buymeacopy.com/transitnomad or through the link in the video description below. This is where you can also find lots of exclusive content on many different cities around the world, my secret tips, PDF guides, and the option to request a custom video on any topic that matters to you. With that being said, let’s begin discussing Bucharest and Romania. I am staying here for a few weeks. I actually extended my trip because it’s way better than I thought it would be. And we are currently standing in front of the famous Parliament building, which is one of the biggest and heaviest government buildings in the world. As you can see, it is very impressive. Um, definitely a lot of detail went into this design. And this is not the only building that is worth visiting. We’re going to take a little look around the area as well. Uh, but one of the things I want to point out is that it might sound if you watch other YouTube videos or you uh read some blogs about Bucharest, it might sound like the city doesn’t have that much to offer. The city center is not that big and there isn’t that much to do. Maybe you can see everything in one day. Well, all these things I completely disagree with that. I’ve been staying here for a couple of weeks now and I still have not had a chance to see everything. The city has so much to offer, whether it’s uh beautiful architectural styles, different combinations of different styles, really good mix. Um lots of things to do, lots of activities, uh a lot of really cool restaurants, bars, concert venues, museums, uh shopping malls, everything. It’s a huge city. It has so much to offer and I can see myself living here comfortably for a really long time. And chances are you might enjoy it too. As long as you’re not only interested in the top destinations that you’re going to find everywhere, like the top five things to do and everyone goes there for the tourists and then you you close your eyes and ignore everything else. Yeah, if you want to ignore everything, then yeah, one day is enough. But if you want to really explore the city and learn all about it and know what it has to offer, definitely staying here at least a week I think would be a good amount of time. Um, extending it even further would be even better. It depends on your uh interests and your per preferences. But I definitely think this city has a lot to offer. The one thing that stands out um that I would recommend you do when you are in Bucharest or if you are thinking about traveling to Bucharest, I was blown away by its parks. They have so many different parks that are so beautiful and each park is unique uh and designed in a different way. It’s not just the scenery that is beautiful like the trees that look nice. This is definitely a part of it, but also they have so many really beautiful fountains and also lots of cool like monuments and statues and also playgrounds and equipment for working out and ponds and lakes and bridges. You name it, their parks are really good. Like out of all the cities I’ve visited in the world and I’ve been traveling a lot, I have to tell you the truth. Um, Romanian parks are among the best. Uh, they definitely do not save money when they build their parks. They make it really good and each park doesn’t matter if it’s inside the city center or outside the city center is unique and it has something to offer. So, when you are in Bucharest, just use Google Maps. Whenever you see a large green space with some water inside, just uh go ahead and click on it and and go there. It’s going to be awesome. Google Maps will give you directions how to get there using public transportation. You can use taxis if you are lazy to use transit, but um basically uh every single park I visited throughout the whole city, not just the city center. I was blown away and I had such a great time. And I’m not like a crazy park psycho person that only cares about parks. I like everything, but these parks, sometimes park is just like some grass and some benches and they say this is a park. Well, it is a park, but in this case, you get like a fullblown park experience with so many things that are uh worth checking out within each park. So, uh I’m really blown away. I can’t stress enough that this is a great uh way to explore Bucharest. And exploring its parks alone, there are so many of them and they are large. Some of them are really huge. It’s going to take you a long time. So, uh don’t cut your trip short. Don’t cut your stay short. Um, also I did want to mention they have free water fountains in many different locations available and they have free toilets also available at many different locations throughout the city which I think makes your trip a lot more smooth and enjoyable. You don’t have to go to buy something every time you want to use the toilet or you don’t have to pay every time you want to use the toilet and you don’t have to spend too long looking for it because um it’s there. I wish they had maybe a little more toilets, but still it’s way better than many other countries in Europe that either have no free toilets at all or they have very very few of them. I think Bucharest is one of the best cities where you can just spend more time exploring the outdoors, uh checking out the city buildings, architecture, walking around, and then when you need to go, you can find a place where you have to go uh where you need to go, where you can go and it’s not a problem. Uh I think it makes uh the experience of traveling a lot more smooth and enjoyable and I want to thank Romanians for um making our stay comfortable in this way. Um another thing I want to suggest when you are in Bucharest is allow a little bit extra time for commuting because this city is known is notorious for bad traffic. It’s one of the worst um traffic jams here that you can find in the world. um especially during peak times and also their public transportation quality is not the best. I’ll be honest with you, if you’re looking for perfect public transportation, uh you might want to go to Switzerland. Um also other cities offer good systems. Uh I just came from Sophia, Bulgaria, believe it or not, even though it’s kind of it should be on the same level as Bucharest, you would think, but their public transportation is way ahead. Um it’s the frequencies are much higher. You don’t have to wait as long. Uh, also they have digital signs with estimated arrival times and it’s easier to pay for it. Um, basically it’s really more convenient in other cities than it is in Bucharest. Their system is a little bit behind in 2025, but um, I would say that they are working on it and there’s potential for improvement. Just allow a little bit of extra time. If you are waiting for a bus, for a tram, it might not show up on time. It might also take longer to buy uh your transit uh passes because a lot of ways that uh you use to pay for transit might not work in Bucharest. Uh I do have a video on how to pay for public transportation and I have a lot of different videos on different topics with travel tips uh when it comes to Romania and other destinations. So feel free to take a look at my channel um if you’d like to explore a little bit more about public transportation in particular and other topics as well. Um, so other than that, um, one very important reason why I recommend, uh, visiting Bucharest and one tip for you I have is to stay as long as possible and why it’s because it’s very affordable. Um, chances are depending on where you come from, you might actually spend less money in Bucharest than you are spending in your hometown or the place where you live. It is one of the most affordable destinations in Europe. uh and it gives you a really good value for the price. The quality of accommodations is very impressive. Often times you get air conditioning, you get good furniture, you get plenty of space, you get some kind of patio or balcony and uh it’s really nice and it’s really cheap. Whether it’s inside the city center, outside the city center, you can find lots of really really good deals. Um my place that I got, I’m sharing it with my uh friends and family. So, it’s going to be uh outside of the city center because I wanted I needed like a huge apartment. But uh I’m currently moving to the city center because they are living and I don’t need as much space anymore. So, I want to live in the city center. With this kind of affordable pricing, I would definitely recommend staying in the city center if you can because it’s going to give you a much better uh proximity and better value and make it easier for you to explore different places because as I already mentioned, the public transportation is not the greatest. But if you are in the city center, you can also walk around a lot and that’s going to save you a lot of time and a lot of energy and also a little bit of money. But their public transit is really cheap. It’s it’s almost like it’s free in a way. So, um I definitely recommend using that too. But if the price is similar, stay in the city center. And don’t be afraid to stay longer. If you get bored for some reason exploring the city center or exploring the parks, you can always go further away. You can check out the residential neighborhoods. You can check out the malls. Um you can check out um other things to do. Um, they have good entertainment complexes. They have a great music scene. Um, they have lots of things going on in this city. It is a huge international destination. Um, it’s not maybe the same as London or Paris. It’s not as famous, but it does not make it worse. It does not mean that you’re going to hate your time here. it. We always tend to think that the famous cities for some reason are better or we’re going to have a better time over there. But in reality, based on my experience traveling around, often times the only thing that happens in the more famous cities is uh two things. First thing is you spend way more money. Everything in London would cost three times as much. Um if you compare it with Bucharest, you spend way more money and you have to share your space with more tourists and more people. it’s more crowded and you get tired of crowds, especially if you’re traveling long term. Um, you you want to take a picture of something, there’s a bunch of people everywhere. You try not to get in your way. They’re trying not to get in your way and you have to wait in lines when you’re trying to get in somewhere. And it’s everything is more competitive. The quality of accommodations is lower. The quality of service is also often lower because they have so many customers. they don’t need to try hard to um improve it to attract more customers. So, uh my experience traveling generally Eastern Europe and Central Europe offer better experience and better value. You spend less money and you get better experience as a general rule. Of course, there are some exceptions to that rule. I I had a amazing time visiting Switzerland, don’t get me wrong, but it was just so crazy expensive. So ridiculous. And it’s not going to be the case in Bucharest. Um, and uh, I consider this a good destination if you want to like find a place where you can uh, do your work and and live somewhere long term like as a digital nomad, run your business or maybe you are in it. I think this might be a good uh city for that. And uh the next thing I want to mention is that there are a lot of different cities that are close to Bucharest or relatively close to Bucharest that are also this worth exploring. Um if we talk about Romania, um one city that is only um approximately 3 hours away by train is called Barcel and that is considered one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. You can go there easily by train. It’s very cheap to go there. The architecture is very beautiful. It can be a day trip, but also it might be a good idea to just stay there for a few days. Um, it has uh a lot of really beautiful historic architecture and also it has very beautiful nature because it’s uh close to the mountains or it’s in the mountains. Uh, I already booked my stay there. I’ll be recording a lot of videos from there too. Um, feel free to stay tuned so you don’t miss them. But uh this is just one of the many cities that are really beautiful and affordable in Romania. And uh it’s good to combine your trip including not just Bucharest but other cities. So you could totally just come to Romania and spend one month in Romania exploring different cities and that would be an amazing trip and also budget friendly trip. Again, chances are you might spend less money in that month even though you’re traveling in another country. you might spend less money than you’re spending on your basic day-to-day expenses in your home country. And and then also it’s close to other countries. Um if you want to go from Bucharest to Budapest for example, you can take a direct train. Uh if you want to go from Bucharest to Sophia, Bulgaria, you can also take a direct train. They also have connections even with Istanbul, Turkey, and other cities in between. So, uh, it’s kind of a good location for exploring Balcons, for exploring Eastern Europe, um, for exploring this part of the world. It’s it’s really great and, uh, I think it’s a it’s a really good value. As I mentioned, I keep repeating that, a really good value. I can’t stress that enough. And, um, also I want to mention that the city is crazy about fountains. You can find fountains everywhere. If you like fountains, I don’t think you can find as many fountains anywhere in the world as you can find here in Bucharest. This whole street we are walking on is covered with fountains. Uh, and at night they might actually light up and give you a show. Right now they are doing some kind of remodeling, but guess what? They have so many fountains spread out throughout the city. It’s not just this one street. Basically, they have fountains almost everywhere. It’s hard not to find 100 fountains when you are walking around Bucharest in one day. Like every park has different fountains, different styles of fountains, different uh way how they design them. Like you can see this one is different from the one behind it. And then the one that follows is also a little bit different. And then uh this is this specific design on this street. On another street is going to be different. Inside the one park is going to be different too. Inside another park is going to be completely different as well. So I like fountains but I never seen any city that is so crazy about them to the point that they spend so much time and money making uh creating and designing so many different versions of it and basically filling the whole city with water. I think it’s very impressive and I appreciate that a lot. And in combination with beautiful nature and beautiful architecture and uh very good pricing and free toilets and good food, I mean this is a really good destination. I I don’t think it gets any better. U when it comes to value unless you start comparing with some other cities like maybe Budapest is also really good destination. Um I’m heading there next. I’ve been there before. I can’t wait to come back. um and other cities in Eastern Europe. But I highly recommend it. Uh I think it’s great. You’re not going to regret it. Um one last note I want to mention about the architecture. What’s cool is that you can experience many different styles from Romanian old school architecture to European classical style architecture which is very similar to a lot of buildings that you can find in Paris that they call Bucharest little Paris. to Soviet style architecture and not just any Soviet style architecture, but basically they tried to make everything bigger and more epic. Of course, a lot of people had to suffer to uh uh when during the construction, and I’m not supporting this in any way, but uh uh the buildings look really impressive. Like the parliament that we were looking at, they have a lot of other buildings that are kind of similar uh very monumental and they make you feel a certain way. Uh it’s really interesting to look at them and a lot of them they were not finished when communist uh Soviet Union fell was falling apart and these countries were finally able to decide for themselves what they wanted to do. These buildings they were not finished. Um and it’s also kind of cool to see these abandoned huge abandoned buildings. Um these large epic monuments and it’s really interesting to explore that too. Uh, and also they have a lot of modern buildings too, modern architecture. They have some really cool transit stops. So, the city is full of surprises, vintage transit vehicles. If you want to catch older trams, this is one of the cities that has plenty of new trams, but it also has some older trams which give you that romantic vibe. I have a lot of videos with older trams on my channel. Feel free to check it out.
