STREET FOOD TOUR at German Christmas Market in Medieval Mountain Town! 🇩🇪🎄✨
Today we are exploring Germany’s most underrated Christmas market. Hidden right in the heart of this medieval [music] UNESCO listed town. This market might not be on top of any of the internet’s [music] trending lists, but a local newspaper crowned the best Christmas market in all of Europe. They might be a little bit biased, but you be the judge of that. Come along [music] with us as we try authentic German street food, warm festive drinks, and even a magical mini forest set right inside [music] of this over 1,000-year-old town. It doesn’t get more German Christmas than this. >> All right, so we are in Gosla [music] and it’s a very nice quaint medieval town. It’s actually a UNESCO World Heritage site. The town itself and the Christmas market is so charming. We’re going to show you around. The sun is just setting and it’s going to be dark very soon. Today, we’re starting off with some food. And they have so much nice food to choose from here. This is a Kristen Bratton brin. So, it’s a crusty roast bread roll. It comes with kra salad like typical colelaw and then you can put a little bit of mayonnaise on there. You can >> It’s not mayonna mustard. It’s >> sorry. Mustard of course. You can also choose between different bread rolls. We got the standard classic white one and it’s just a big piece of [music] pork meat on there. Couple of layers. >> We thought we’d switch it up from the broad verse. So, here we go. Kristen brought broch. That’s a shag. >> Look at this piece. >> Wa. >> Going to smear that on here a little bit because I’m going to lose [music] this piece. And you can see how nicely crusted it is and then juicier on the inside. Nice piece of pork. Oh my god. I like how they give you multiple layers of the meat. The meat is like finger thick. There’s two layers of that. The cold sauce in the center and then a little bit of mustard. This is very nice. Definitely healthier than a sausage. Some proper meat in there. I don’t know which one’s better, the brat was or this one, [music] man. Very, very satisfying. This was €6. So, yeah, good deal. >> Would you say it’s a good price liess? >> I’m not sure. [laughter] That makes me happy. >> Good. Happy husband, happy life. [music] That’s how the saying goes, right? But yeah, this was delicious >> and a great way to start off this Christmas market. >> I don’t know why, but 10 minutes in here and we already said this has a different type of charm to it and it’s so nice. >> The vibe is so nice and there’s so many more food options surprisingly than Ain already. >> And the town feels medieval by itself. So it’s very cool. >> Gosla is located in the hots mountains of Germany. The town itself is very quaint and full of halftimbered houses and historic buildings. The Christmas market already looks so great and we haven’t even gotten into the heart of it yet. And of course, we didn’t make it very far before finding a mold wine stand. We’re going to have a glue wine here. And they have a special one here, a Hornik glue wine, which is a honey mold wine. And these [music] are the cups of the year here of the this market. >> Gosler. >> They always have their own styles. And [music] this one says Gossler right here. >> Very pretty. Very pretty. >> But very nice. So [music] honey one. >> It’s not quite meat like the Viking drink, but it’s sweet. >> It tastes a little bit like meat, but not quite as strong. It’s definitely a white wine this time around. Not a red one. And then with a little bit of honey in the honey flavor. But what can I say? They’re all kind of good. And it’s steaming. It’s pretty cold up here. We’re a little bit elevated in this beautiful medieval [music] town. And it’s always good to just warm yourself up with a quick luvine like this. >> [laughter] >> Okay, to fill you in on this little inside joke, Phil tried to order this honey mold wine with cream on top. Both me and the woman working there looked at him strangely since it’s not a normal combination. [music] But don’t worry too much for Phil. He will get his whipped cream later in this video. As we continue into the market, we make it all the way up to the North Pole where we are greeted with Christmas sheep and goats. There was also a magical Christmas train ride and a decent amount of shops and souvenir stalls selling things like winter garments, heatable warming plushies, and lots of Christmas ornaments. There was even this nativity scene [music] made fully of wood. There are a lot of woodworking shops around the city selling wooden figurines. We make it deeper into the market and are greeted with more alluring smells and sights like this fried cauliflower stand. It’s called Kafel Pufa here, not rival kuhan. We’re no longer in the rine area. >> The real world word for it, Kart Pufa. >> Some pretzel sandwiches looked very enticing, but we [music] ultimately decided to go with this medieval style stall selling beautiful loaves of bread. Every order was reheated in [music] the oven for a nice warm inside and crispy outside. All right. So, next up we have here a graphenola mit sha unpinat which is pretty much a duke roll with cheese and spinach. It looks very good. They heated it up for us in the oven. They’re already made there. This bread is so crispy. I’m breaking it apart. Do I just eat this bread? Nothing quite like freshly baked bread in Germany. [music] >> Yeah. And it’s a standard like specialized into baking fresh bread there in a woodfired [music] oven. >> Oh, it’s so nice. It’s nice. Soft in the inside, but crispy across the outside. All right. My goal is to try to get [music] into that spinach and cheese. We broke it apart and I saw it all. Looks so good. >> Go for it. >> See if my bite can be big enough. I don’t know. >> Wow. >> Show me the bite. >> I barely scraped the surface [music] of it, but that’s a decent amount of spinach in there. Tastes really good. Um, the bread itself is very [music] warm from being reheated. Spinach and cheese in there is a little colder. Could be a few minutes longer to be in there, but it also has kind of a nice seasoned kick to it. There you see that [music] there’s garlic in there. Black pepper and paprika or some flavor in there. This is my stuff. This is so good. Spinach and cheese with bread. Oh my god. Dare I say 10 out of 10 already. It’s too early. It’s too early. But this is awesome. All right, let me quickly get a bite. And also, I really love this market. It’s not too overflowing with people yet. It is a Thursday, Wednesday. It’s Wednesday. They just opened today. Sun is already setting and I like how chill the vibe is here compared to the big cities, >> dude. So good, right? M. >> I can’t get over how good that was. If we were to go back tomorrow, I would definitely [music] get it again. If not trying one of the other options there, I really like the medieval vibes of the stall. It matched the feeling of the town and the architecture. And on top of that, almost every stall here only accepted cash. No card payment. We couldn’t even use our card for parking. So cash only, no ba. It definitely felt like we were brought back to a different [music] century, but this is Germany and somewhat normal, especially outside of cities. Uh, this is pretty amazing. So, there is a whole forest set up here. We can go. We’re going to get a drink and go in in a second. But look how pretty this is. Kind of reminds me a little bit of Hanover, but a little like not as big. Obviously, this is a kind of a smaller market, but everything is very close and there’s so many options. Is this like the most underrated Christmas market in Germany? I love it. Let’s go. So, let’s get one. >> There’s nothing quite like a drink in the forest. And at this point, we have a few drink options to choose from. There’s the classic glue vine. There’s foyang [music] bola with a nice flame. There’s Christmas time eggnog. There’s even Swedish glug here. There’s glue vine with some blueberry flavor as well. His hbe. [music] So, a hot raspberry dream. Dude, the amount of drink flavors here is amazing. And there is Kinder Punch for the non-alcoholic drinkers. But we ultimately decided on this marzipan punch. And we couldn’t forget the cream for Phil. >> I think I’m filming a [music] blockbust master right now. >> The music. [laughter] Oh, wow. All right, so we decided to get this in [music] this beautiful forest here. Look how pretty this is. And I wanted to try mazipan punch. [music] Dude, there’s so many things that I’ve never seen before. Uh, I asked the apparently a stupid question if it’s with alcohol or not. They said yes. >> Stupid. Phil was like, “Of course, all the punch is with alcohol.” Okay. And this is with sauna. Little cookie in there. [music] I can’t wait to give it a try. Holy. Drinking a hot drink with a straw is not smart. That just shoots in there. Dude, that’s so sweet. Wow. >> No, let me try. >> That’s so good. Oh, no. No, no, no. [music] >> Give it to me. >> Oh my god. That might be my new favorite. >> Didn’t see you there. I’m just casually in my forest right here. [music] It’s lit up a bit. Let’s see. >> Don’t [music] take that from me. >> I think adding calories to alcoholic drinks just makes them better cuz it’s just like a masiparan chocolate sweet thing. And then whipped cream. >> So good. >> The whipped cream also works because it’s marzipan. Oh, look at this thing. Creamy [music] white. You want me to eat that cookie? No, >> dude. It is nice. I I love these forests. It’s such a vibe in here. I never seen them with the lights. The lights [music] are cool, too, but it’s dark. And you really feel like you’re in a forest. How dreamy this is. This >> is so pretty. Look at this. It’s so funny that Phil says he likes this masipan punch. Because [music] when I tried to order it, he was like, “Ew, ew, give me some.” As we fight over this delicious marzipan punch, we can’t express [music] how cozy this mini forest feels. It’s such a unique atmosphere. And not every German [music] Christmas market has this. The smell of pine is everywhere. From the trees around you to the wood chips on the ground. There are lights twinkling against the night sky and it feels so magical. There’s music playing all around us. So, I have to edit this with some copyright free Christmas music, but it just feels so nice. So, this is a little more expensive than just the standard glue wine. This was €6.50 and then a€3 fund. So, €950 together, but if you return the mug, you get your fund back. >> And if you think in in sugar and alcohol per euro, [music] it might be even a better price performance ratio. >> Wow. Oh my god. I I found my new favorite drink. >> Sugar per euro. I find my new favorite scale of measuring uh if food is worth it or not. Yeah. Wow, this is amazing. >> We finish up this drink while soaking [music] up the atmosphere. >> It’s so sad it’s all gone. >> And we eventually have to make our way out of the forest and back into the market to see what else is out there. As we admire this Christmas market and the beautiful lights, we ask you to please like the video and subscribe for more videos around the world. If you want to further support us, you can do that by purchasing some of our merch, [music] like one of our mug designs, where you can enjoy a warm drink at home or some of our Eat Together merch. And I’ve been wearing this sweatshirt a [music] lot as it is getting colder and colder in Germany. If you want to support us in other ways, you can do that on patreon.com/en andfill where we make additional monthly videos for certain tiers. And a shout out to our soulmate tier patronons, [music] Lauren, Jared, Roger, Lupa, Robin, and David Dugmore. Felen Dunk for your support. Now, time to eat a sweet treat. And we have a few options to choose from. There are an assortment of Christmas cookies. There are the classic le kohhin hats, but I never eat these. They feel too much like decoration. I don’t want to destroy them. They’re so pretty. There’s classic roasted almonds, even some honey from Finland that looked amazing. There were stalls with dump noodles, bon bons, and other German candy. But ultimately, we decided on this stand that had some good-looking fried food. All right, so next on the list, we have Kuhunal kuhunal kohhun. >> Yeah. >> This I remember having at my very first ever Christmas market in Germany in Hanova. And I don’t think I’ve had it since. It’s just deep fried dough with powdered sugar on top. And I think there’s supposed to be a little bit of lemon taste in there. So we’ll see. Give it a try. Smells so good though. It immediately smells like fried food. This is the German funnel cake to me. And it tastes so good. This is fair food in my opinion. It’s like what you want after drinking a little bit. Some fried sugar. >> Are you my mother? >> Yeah, I licked it first. >> Wow. So good. Look at this nice powdered sugar. They add a nice hand modeling powdered sugar extra on there for us. Looks so good. >> Damn the sugar. It’s snowing. That background looks so epic, too. >> This is so good. >> You feed me one, >> man. Deep fried dough. >> Deep fried dough. >> Whoever ate deep fried dough and said, “Damn, that sucks.” No. >> Very good. >> It’s awesome. All right, we have one more item from the dough stand and it’s this nice one kvak [music] bashin. And I had kvak bashin before. It’s again just fried dough with this nice charred crust and then sugar on top, [music] not just powdered sugar. But this one is filled. It’s filled with a prune prune filling, prune jam or something like that. I’m very curious. I’m not a big fan of prune. I would have preferred strawberry. Well, let me see. I think this is my favorite dough. This is better than the school in my opinion. Theme scans might be an eight out of 10. >> This is more cakey dough, right? >> Yeah, it’s cakey and it has this crust. It tastes very special. And it is filled. I even like the pruna. >> Wow, that’s crazy. You never like that. >> Maybe this is a 9 and 1/2 and it needs strawberry. That would be a 11 out of 10. >> Phil is strawberry bias if you didn’t know. Those were both really good. And we need a few [music] minutes to walk it off to make room for our last food item. >> What’ you think? This is awesome, dude. This might be one of my favorite small town Christmas markets. >> Yeah, and I think the Christmas market experience especially because it’s so not busy. >> Yeah, we’re on a weekday here, which is nice. It’s the first day it’s open end of November and it’s so pretty. It’s not too crowded and everything is within a decent walking distance, but the amount the variety that they have here at a smaller market is way more than Ain or even like some parts of >> other cities. So, >> food wise very good. >> Yeah, so far very nice. [music] Yes, very impressed with the amount of food and drink options at this market. There were even some activities like the train or the goats or the ferris wheel. >> I think at that stand behind Lienna, they have a horse sausage. It says specialties from the the ste. >> Oh, instead of sun. [music] >> So, I think it’s horse meat and I don’t think we’re going to try that. Or you feel like a >> No, I don’t really feel like it. I’m good. No horse sausage for us today, but we are debating on what the last savory item should be. There’s the classic [music] Christmas market mushrooms cooking in a pan. Some nice fries deep frying and steaming in the night sky. We saw a stand for smash burgers, which might be the first time I’ve ever seen smash burgers at a German Christmas market stall. There’s some fish sandwich options as well, but I’m not quite in the mood for eel right now. There’s a nice local farmers brought breakfast that looked pretty good as well. But there was something we prefer more that’s just perfect at a German Christmas market. Hello [laughter] Let’s go. >> Okay, one thing I really wanted to eat is some fried potatoes. And what better way to do it than in the form of a kafel pufa and we also thought it’s funny because where we live right now in this in the rine region they always call it but here in lower saxony we call it a kafa. >> Phil’s from lower saxony. That’s why it says that. >> So it’s basically a potato pancake and again they’re a little thinner than the ones in a more like the ones in Dudeldorf or Cologne. And today we got the original applesauce with it from Afimoose and not like a big quark version. So big dip, hot pancake, cold apple sauce. Here we go. M. This one’s so good. This one is as good as the one in Cologne’s Old Town. It’s crunchy on the outside. It’s moist and warm on the inside. I love the crunchiness about it. It’s not quite sure if it wants to be a big French fry or some type of pancake, you know. It’s something in between. It’s something beautiful. Look, this thing is steaming. >> And then just dipping it in that cold apple sauce gives us this tart contrast. And man, this is one of my This was actually one of my favorite meals growing up. My grandma make kafua. This is such a German meal. >> 10 out of 10. How nice is that? >> That tastes really good. has a nice crisp to it. Very nice. >> If you come to German Christmas Market and you’re not from Germany, you didn’t grow up with this, this is a must get. >> Yeah. >> All right. It was so full. We ate so many things. There would be so much more to eat. But honestly, this was one of the best Christmas market experience that I’ve had. >> This is definitely in my top two or three Christmas markets in Germany that I’ve been to. >> Perfect day. Amazing food. Very worth it. >> So good. Yes. Let us know what you like to eat on a German Christmas market. >> We’ll see you in the [music] next one. Bye. >> Yeah. >> Oh, good. They’re good. [laughter] having to take a bath.

Would you rather go to one of the big christmas markets or to a smaller town like this one in Goslar?
Also, if you are watching this on your phone: there is a new HYPE feature under the video! We don't know if it does much but can somebody please hype us up?
Thanks!
Bernkasel-Kues!
Trier!
💚
I lived quite close to Goslar, the whole of the Harz Mountain area is so beautiful.
Grafenrolle translates into Count Role and NOT Duke as a Duke is a Herzog.
❤❤ Wow such a nice Market ❤❤ Love it. And Deana‘s German is so süß 😊
Not even two minutes in and allready impressed.

Are those similar to the Dutch oliebollen?
Edit: Goslar is not far from where my grandparents met each other. Second week in a row you two triggered fond memories. Thank you!
I think it would be cute to take an older person like Phil's Mom and follow her around a Christmas Market and see what she likes to eat, drink and do. The food in this vid looked really good; even the stuff you didn't eat.
My German great grandpa lived until he was almost 102 and he made the best potato pancakes. That part brought tears to my eyes! 🥹 What a magical market 🌲
Do you have a video with this Celebration?
I like this one in Goslar the best (am besten).
Great video! I totally prefer the small German Christmas markets. I will add Goslar to the list. Thank you for sharing.
Its not a duke roll. It would be a count roll. Duke is Herzog 🙂
Beautiful video.
Man; Deanna’s German ordering is so improved over the years. She’s giving me hope for myself 😅
As long as you haven't checked out Esslingen an Stuttgart, "most underrated" can't be taken seriously. 🙂 You'd be surprised at the drinking options in Stuttgart.
Goslar did become a favourite this summer wehen my friends car did break down. And we had to spend a few days there waiting for thw car do be fixed. The christmas market did look lovely. Came home from Germany yesterday. Did visit the christmas market in Essen. Did not eat much, because of a big dinner at Block House 🙂And finaly Strawberry is the best. Excellent video as always.
Would much rather go to Goslar! The only “larger” city one I would want to go is Erfurt, and that is because I can trace family lineage to Thuringia. The Harz in my opinion is not just a hidden gem within Germany, but in Europe. Every video, and testament I have seen, read has been overwhelmingly positive. I have been to two German cities, however, not during the Christmas Market period. It is definitely a “bucket” list dream of mine, thanks to folks like yourselves, we can all get a great idea of what places are like, Goslar would be my number 1 candidate after seeing this. Vielen Dank!
Thank you for the tour, and helping me not be so homesick again this year. I recently discovered Nurnberger Obladen Lebkuchen (???) I got a package from the app Picnic (Edeka) and some have dark chocolate, and some have glaze, but all have those Catholic Communion Wafers and soft Lebkuchen inside. I cannot explain to you how exquisite they are. I immediately thought, if I ever live in America again, I will have to have these amazing Christmas treats shipped to me. Along with Aachener Printen, Lubecker Marzipan, and simple but delicious Spekulatious. Thank God It's Christmas singing
What a great atmosphere! Looks like something out of a storybook.
Thanks for the tour, beautiful market.
I think this is the way to go! Find one not everyone knows about. And thanks for the cash only tip.
Why do German dentists always act so strange?
Because they’re “in Zähne”
CHRIST IS KING
A great Christmas themed video. It's really putting me in the mood for Christmas. Thank you so much for sharing🎅🎉❤
Unfortunately Goslar is too far away for a one-day-trip from my hometown. Otherwise I would go there. I dislike the overcrowded Christmas markets in the region where I live.
The Christmas Markets in Fulda (Hesse) and the Weihnachtsmarkt der Nationen Rüdesheim (Rheingau) are said to be amazing.
leaving Detroit is 3 hours to Amsterdam going down the Rhine again for Christmas markets!
Der Weihnachtsmarkt in Quedlinburg ist auch sehr schön. Ihr seid nur 60km davon entfernt.
Ich wünsche euch einen schönen 2. Advent!
Oh, so you were not far from me! (And on the weekend when it's dark that market is full.)
I recommend you get back here in the warmer season and have a deep go in the Erzbergwerk Rammelsberg (also Goslar), visit the Wernigeröder Schloss and have a relaxed walk through Wasserleben (beautiful village) and Osterwieck (really old houses).
Grüße aus Goslar und Danke für die Werbung für unserer Stadt!🙂👍
Classic – Deana and Phil are the best for travel vlogs. Thanks for your constant, brilliant work. Goslar, my favorite X-Mas market.
The Christmas Market in Goslar offers an atmosphere filled with delicious aromas that invite visitors to slow down and enjoy the season. The historic Old Town creates a beautiful backdrop for the many food stalls that line the squares and narrow streets. Goslar has a long medieval history, shaped by silver mining and imperial influence, and this richness is reflected in the traditional recipes and regional treats that appear throughout the market.
Deana and Phil experience the market as YouTubers with a special interest in flavorful discoveries. They stop at stalls that serve freshly grilled bratwurst, savoury potato pancakes, and warm, soft on the inside, crisp on the outside pretzels. The scent of mulled wine rises from steaming cups, and the combination of cinnamon, cloves, and citrus fills the air. Visitors can try roasted almonds, gingerbread, and fruit dipped in smooth chocolate. Each bite feels connected to the region's traditions and adds warmth to cold winter evenings. For their audience, Deana and Phil capture the joy of tasting local specialties in a place where history and culinary pleasure come together in a very inviting way.
In our family, there is a long tradition of cooking "Kartoffelpuffer" for relatives on alternate weekends during Advent. It's a lovely tradition because it brings us together once a year, especially when we live so far apart.
The golden-brown crust of a perfect "Kartoffelpuffer" is not simply crispy; it is a delicate, almost glass-like layer that crackles softly the moment your teeth meet it. Its surface shines with a warm honey glow, formed by slow caramelization that fills the air with deep, irresistible roasted aromas. Every bite into this crust releases a wave of heat and toasty flavours that make your hunger flare up instantly.
Inside, the "Kartoffelpuffer" is silky and softly sweet, with a buttery tenderness that seems to dissolve on the tongue. The natural sweetness of the potato, intensified by perfect browning, blends with rich, mellow butter notes to create a flavor that feels both comforting and indulgent.
And then comes the spoonful of sour-sweet, balanced applesauce. Cool, smooth, and bright, it adds a refreshing contrast that heightens every roasted, buttery nuance of the "Kartoffelpuffer". The interplay of crisp and juicy, warm and cool, roasted and fruity creates a harmony so addictive that each bite feels like it demands another.
Deana and Phil, it warms my heart how perfectly you match. No words required, everyone can see your Love for each other.
And it doesnt look like a fortress yet!
Absolutely fantastic.
Ich als deutscher finde es immer wieder Lustig, wie ihr zwischen deutsch und englisch wechselt. Und immer am futtern 😄😄 Macht Spaß euch zuzusehen.
Wunderbar 😊
Wernigerode Great too
Bamberg Great too
Görlitz is Beautiful
Thanks for the great video. I will definitely have this on my list when I go to Germany for trip to Christmas Markets. Potato Pancakes are the best. I enjoyed them growing up. My late Mother was German, and she made them for us all the time. I'm not a fan of Mazripan, but I shared this video with my sister who loves it.

More more more ! My wife and I are old enough to be your parents but we love every single episode you produce. Really into your Christmas market videos max ! Watched this video 3 times already and now planning to follow your footsteps next season.( went to Mexico last week) hope you make more Christmas market videos this season. They are super great! Merry Christmas from Amy and Kevin, also world travelers.
I loved this video! Clearly the Christmas Market season is not nearly long enough to visit all of the amazing options. Thank you both so much for sharing!!!
My grandma is from a German family and she always liked to serve her pork chops with apple sauce. Seeing the potato pancakes served with it makes me wonder if its a German thing to do.
toll wegen euch muss ich gleich wieder zu unserem Weihnachtsmarkt und dort essen.
Great, because of you I have to go back to our Christmas market and eat there.
