Explore Europe by Train

Hi everyone. Our last video was an itinerary for a train journey around parts of southern Germany and Austria. And now if you have more time and you’re ready to see more of Europe, we’ve got an expanded itinerary still by train. Riding trains around this part of Europe is pretty easy in a very good adventurous way. A couple of tips here for smooth traveling by train. And the first one is book direct trains only. Direct routes meaning you’re on a train from point A to point B. There will be stops in between, but you stay on the same train until your destination. And for how to book, especially when you’re going from country to country in Europe, we book through top sites like omio.com and trainline.com. We’re starting this itinerary in Munich, Germany, because this is a great destination to fly into from many locations and it’s a great launching off point for taking the trains. From Munich, take a direct train to Salsburg, Austria. And then cut across Austria. Again, a direct train to Vienna, the capital of Austria. Vienna to Bratoslava, Slovakia is a quick direct train. And then Bratoslava to Budapest, Hungary. When you’re leaving Budapest, note, you will go back up through Vienna on the train in order to then go to Krakco, Poland. We are breaking the rule of direct trains here. Budapest doesn’t have a direct going up to Krakco or Prague, anywhere we want you to go next. But it is totally worth the going a little bit out of your way to go see Budapest, one of our favorite cities. Okay, so you’re up to KCO, Poland, and from there direct train west to Prague, Czech Republic. After Prague, if it’s time for you to head back home, it’s a direct train from Prague to Munich. Or do you have more time? You could go direct Prague to Berlin in northern Germany. Explore Berlin. You could take a direct train to Hamburgg even further north. The trains really do give you that feeling that you can just keep going and exploring. But to wrap this up, I want to show you Hamburgg back down to Munich. It is again a direct line. It is six hours, which brings me to our last top tip of this video. We have found that about five plus hours on a train is long enough. Hamburg to Munich might be about the longest you want to plan to be on a train in a day. This itinerary takes you around six countries in central Europe on direct mostly direct trains. Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, and Czech Republic. So, here’s our suggested number of nights to spend for each destination. Hopefully, you can take this as a baseline and tweak it to match for what you would like to see. For example, Salsburg at 2 to three nights is because you might book an all day tour to Eagle’s Nest. And also, just to note, some of these cities are more expensive than others. So Munich, Berlin, Salsburg, and Vienna are on the expensive side, whereas Bratoslava, Prague, Budapest, and KCKO are going to give your wallet a break. And these are four of our favorite cities in Europe. We hope this video was helpful. Let us know any questions in the comments, and please do subscribe to see more travel videos. Thanks for watching.
