The BEST European Cities for Families!
hey there fellow family Travelers Mark here with Walters world and today we’re here in Stockholm Sweden and today we’re going to give you are the five best big cities to visit in Europe if you want to travel with your kids and what I’m doing with this list is I’m focusing on the big cities because for families we know that connecting flights suck right and so it’s easy to fly into a big city and just stay in one spot and therefore enjoy that culture enjoy those things and only de with the kids being upset about taking public transportation versus another plane train or automobile kind of thing right so let’s get started I want to start actually here in Stockholm Stockholm is fantastic for families why well one you have direct flights from the US you got direct flights from the Middle East you got direct flights from all over Europe to get here but it’s super safe like you’re not worried about your kids at all well maybe maybe when they get near the bike path you might get a little worried but honestly it’s a super safe City you can go around and do lots of things and there’s tons of outdoor activities kids love that so if you’re here yes you can take a boat ride and see all the canals and go through the see the bridges but I’d go actually some of the islands go swimming in the water out there go exploring on the islands or if you’re in the city going to the Old Town like I’ve seen kids going oh wow this is kind of cool I see school groups going through there all the time to check out the beautiful buildings that are there the Oldtown and the Royal Palace which is really nice nice stuff to do for kids lots of museums here too and adults may say well I want to go to the ABA Museum no with the kids you want to take them to the vas Museum it is this huge boat they found like it literally was launched a few hundred years ago in s right away and they brought it up really kind of a cool things that kids enjoy my kids loved it when they were here so that’s cool now aside from the Vasa Museum there’s all kinds of other museums out here but when you are by the Vasa Museum there’s also sconsin it’s an open air museum what’s cool is the kids get to go around and they get to see like buildings from Sweden’s past you get to see them doing things in the past it’s kind of a fun activity when we went there with our kids they really liked it and right next to it is Gund yes there’s a little amusement park you can go to that has rides Ferris wheels Maro rounds kind of stuff that’s actually a Funtime game to play there too so you have all these like fun family activities in a safe environment I mean what could go wrong price-wise it’s a little pricey but honestly all big cities in the world are pricey so I don’t find it much worse than anywhere else that I go so one thing so Stockholm definitely a great place to go through [Music] kids I mean come ons sconsin and Stockholm even has a Children’s Zoo what more can you ask for number two two of my list is actually Paris now some people say well Paris is so busy and there’s all those things going on and there’s pickpockets and stuff I don’t know look Paris is fantastic with kids actually our youngest learned how to walk when we was little there I mean we’ve been going there since actually he was before my old my youngest was born who’s a lot older than being a baby now but we’ve been going there for years because one there’s lots of little Parks you can give the kids time to play wherever you go but also the things they go see you go to the lou Museum the kids know the Mona Lisa they know the wings Victor they know those things you show them the painting that’s a person made out of fruit they’re like that’s the coolest art I’ve ever seen M or say this is stuff they’ve seen in their cartoons it’s stff they’ve seen in the movies they know this kind of art stuff if they had any art class at all in school yet they’ll be like hey I know that so that’s one of the cool things it can Inspire your kids to love art but also you have the Eiffel Tower which every kid wants to get a picture with of them either holding it or doing this with it or things like that I mean it’s really fun and the thing is Paris got flights from everywhere around the world so you can get there easily also the public transportation there the Metro goes everywhere and it’s no more than 500 M from basically any place in the entire city so you can get around you don’t even have to think about running a car you don’t have to worry about Ubers or taxis or anything you can just get on public transport and go and also what I like is people actually like kids in France and they like kids in Paris I mean when we kids were little people would help us they’re like oh you need to help get in the stroller over into the Metro sure oh the kids are like you know Middle School little kids people are like hey there’s come play with us like at the park they go kick soccer balls with the locals I mean it’s really cool it’s a great place but there’s a lot of things to do a lot of things to see but also the food is fantastic in France and that’s one of those things if you want your kids to experiment on food France is a good place for it cuz sometimes you can be like oh maybe you want to try a frog leg no then how about this croissant oh kids will love croissant I mean you’ll notice the French kids don’t complain very much cuz they’re walking around like with uh some bread with some butter on it or some bread and some chees or bread and some chocolate in the middle yeah the kids the kids will eat well when they’re there and they’ll be happy and then you’re like I’m a great parent my kids are eating they’re seeing culture and they get a lot of fun stuff to do you can’t be Paris for for a family okay another place right across English Channel you got London and London what I like about London is it has so many like museums you can enjoy but Al there’s great free museums there to save a little bit of money but also there’s a lot of the kind of kidfriendly exhibits and kid-friendly activities in the museums as well and that’s one of those things all the museums you go to in these cities ask them if they have children’s programing like maybe there’s a scavenger hunt there maybe there’s like a hide not necessar hide-and-seek but you know you have thing you got to find it in the museum you have those I mean it’s really kind of a cool thing they do a really good job in London with that and also you have the teenage museums and stuff they like there you know whether it’s you know going to Madam to wax museum which I I feel is kind of a tourist trap but it’s fun and kids really enjoy that kind of stuff so it’s they have those kind of things too and you know there’s nothing like walking down the tames and going oh look there’s the Globe Theater would you like to learn about some Shakespeare that you’re learning and see it in like in real life like that you learn in your Brit lit class like there’s things there for all ages of kids which is really cool also there are a lot of parks around town going to hide Park and just chilling out there and enjoying the kid time it’s wonderful the food scene there look if your kid doesn’t want to eat and you know you can’t take them too late to the pub there’s every International food dish you’ve ever wanted ever is in London so you can have that so if they’re missing home it doesn’t matter where you’re from you probably can find their favorite food when you’re there so that might make a day easier doing that but if you’re going to take the kids anywhere I recommend taking to the British museum so they can see you know the mummies that are there and the uh the Rosetta Stone and like some pretty famous collections there so something to kind of think about so London always an easy one it’s a short flight from the US and believe me with all the cheap airlines throughout Europe it’s easy to get there from anywhere now next up on my list is Rome Italy now why Rome dude it’s Rome it’s the Eternal City the Coliseum has probably been in 16 of the cartoon episodes they’ve watched this week right like it is a thing going to the Coliseum going to The Forum taking that in going to see the cysteine chapel and the kids going oh that’s that painting where the people are putting their fingers together yes Junior it is and there’s the art that’s there there’s the history that’s there with the Romans but also the Italians they love kids as well I think they love kids better more than the French cuz when we were in Rome I we’ve been going to Rome for years like that was the first one of the first trips that Liam took abroad uh when he was little he was 7 weeks old and we flew to Italy and we were in the Rome airport it was hilarious cuz the like T the TSA agents basically at security these two ladies they saw us and we’re at the end of this huge long line they’re like Basta people and they like Come Running get like I will hold the baby and so they take baby lean while we go through security it was so awesome and what’s cool is in Italy there’s all kinds of Pathways oh you got kids you could just skip the line who doesn’t mind that remember that when you’re flying out of rum going back to the US you see that huge long line be like look bimo bimo Bambino children baby let us through they totally will it’s really nice but honestly the food there what kid doesn’t want pasta every single day you have that but also they have meat dishes all kinds of stuff and what’s cool is the people respect the children there people with children there so they’re going to have things for them and don’t be surprised if Mama comes out from the back or or no no the Grandma comes out from the back and like watches your kid so you can actually have a romantic meal with your wife or with your husband I mean I still remember going to EST in Rome and there was baby Liam at seven weeks and Caleb who was four like the lady comes it’s like oh you guys come back I’ll teach him how like she takes him back shows them how to make pasta so we actually got to have some wine and got to talk you know it’s just it’s just a fantastic thing I can’t say enough how great Rome is with kids and then number five on my list we’re heading to Spain we’re going to Barcelona now I know Barcelona is the pickpocket capital of Europe however if you get past that Barcelona’s actually really good for families cuz one you’ve got City beaches okay they built these beaches in the ’90s and so it’s literally right there on the city beach like right there so you can just walk to the the beach enjoy yourself then go back into town you’ll be fine plenty of stuff to do activities at the beach as well also you have Parks throughout the city you can enjoy Park G with its crazy gouty architecture going to the sagata Familia make sure you pre-book your tickets so you don’t wait in line in the heat with the kids I mean you have that to go check out cuz it’s such a crazy looking church that kids really dig it but also you can do toas little snack little small plates of food so you can have your kids try a lot of different foods and you can as well and also the Spanish love kids too so don’t be surprised it’s not just the abas the grandmas that are saying hi the local people hey what’s up Chico what’s up H H like they’re so sweet there in Barcelona with the kids so and also you can get around with the subway very easily there and that’s why like all these places have great public transportation great connections throughout Europe and the rest of the world and have easy to feed your kid and have fun with your kid so I hope this helps you kind of help make a decision where you could travel with your kids when they’re little or when they’re not so little anymore cuz I’ve gone to all the places with my kids and I swear by this list it has made my life a lot easier having big cities like this to go and enjoy and see the culture but enjoy with my kids so what are some other great cities you like to go to in Europe to travel with your kids let us know in the comments below so we can help families find other great places to go and I’ll say bye from here in very familyfriendly Stockholm Sweden [Music]

Food and drink costs in Stockholm are eyewatering, but it's a brilliant city – highly recommended from me
When I was in Paris I noticed that they do enjoy kids and kinda encourage them to be loud/playfull – it does get a tad irritating after a while (especially in buses), but I can imagine it being cool for the families
I canβt believe he left off Amsterdam
very informative vidio β€β€
I agree about Paris, as with most big cities, donβt be stupid. Itβs really easy to get yourself into trouble anywhere by going stupid places or doing stupid stuff. Stay well away from groups of African men, that you shouldnβt see at any of the big attractions anyway.
I'd definitely put Rome in first place. The historical worth is unmatched when compared with the other ones you've mentioned and also more budget friendly for a family when compared to Paris, London and Stockholm.
Did I miss the 6th?
When are you coming to Australia?
If you work abroad – fine, take your children. Most parents who take children abroad do so because the parents want to go abroad. Children will be happy in the local park with a sandwich. It's far cheaper and less hassle.
I was born and schooled overseas, and speak several languages – something a child will not experience on a 2 week holiday in a hotel.
Anywhere except Switzerland. That place was awful.
Advertising Paris and London as safe is ruining your credibility in my eyes. Then again you come from USA, everywhere in Europe is gonna be safe compared to USA. Even safe small towns in France are not as safe as capitol city of my country. Kind of sad what you consider safe, but to each their own…
As someone from Stockholm, Im not afraid to have my kids right here, in Stockholm city. There are great parks around the city where you can go swim, great playgrounds.. lots of nature.. a lot of kindergardens all around.. museums where they have kids activities.. Skansen is great! Its also "cheap" having kids here, like cheap kindergardens, barnbidrag (child allowance) and so on. In some areas kids go out them self and play football and such. Gamla stan and Norrmalm area is not so good for kids though I would choose other areas. Preferebly an apartment close to a park or in my dreams a house. Yes they do exist. You can actually live in a house right in the city center. But they are super super hard to get.π
Ive veen to Paris once.
Saw 2 ppl get out of there car and start a fistfight.
Saw a women spit on another women.
Saw someone using drug with a needle.
Saw a lot of begging people.
Did not find a toilet without poop all over it.
Because of terrorist tread there was armed military everywere.
Would never bring my kid to that city.
I have a lot of family that love it there so it could be i met Paris on a bad day.
But my advice is dont do Paris and don't do Brussels with kids.
I have a question. My son (32 years old) and I want to use a Britrail pass to see a bit more of England. Is it a good deal? We are going to take a train up to Edinburgh after and rent a car for Scotland. I'm just not wanting to rent a car for our whole 12 days. Thanks
Barcelona could be one of the most insecure cities in Spain. Every provincial capital in the country (we have near fifty to choose) is securer.
When my daughter was a kid she hated going om vacation. Not anoiher Museum, no more ruins and so on was all we heard. Her idea of a great vacation was laying at the beach or pool all day for one or two week.
Orlando sounds Italian enough I guess?
I enjoyed this video. πβ€
I strongly disagree. European " not so big" cities with beautiful nature around (sea, mountains) are a better choice.
On first impressions Stockholm feels like a super safe city, but it has a much higher honicide rate than most European cities, and Malmo an d Gothenburg even more so. This is due to the amount of illegal guns that have gotten into the hands of criminals and the fact that there has been way too much immigration in the past 20 years and many of the 2nd generation immigrants are living in poor and economically deprived suburbs of Stockholm away from the tourist areas where there isnt much opportunity.
I can't believe you didn't mention Disneyland in Paris π
Stockton, CA is more kid-friendly than Stockholm ππ€£
ZΓΌrich is kid-friendly too!π

We had a fantastic time in Denmark renting a car and doing a road trip (Copenhagen, Faxe, Odense, Billund/Legoland, and Aarhus). Faxe had a great geo museum my son loved and we did an open air museum in Odense that was a lot of fun. The workers in the blacksmithing hut had us captivated for almost an hour!
We also stopped in Talinn Estonia on a cruise and I would like to go back. The castle walls were really cool and there were a ton of museums to visit that are kid-friendly.
Surprised to not see Germany on the list! Is it not necessarily kid-friendly? Planning on a trip soon with the kiddo!
Thanks for this. Been watching your videos for years and now we have a 3 year and 9 month old.

We were in Berlin earlier this year with our kids (12, 10 & 6), great zoo & then just so many historic locations within walking distance, DDR museum super
Vienna was kid friendly for us and our 7 year old son. During the summer kids get to ride public transportation for free, my son loved eating Weiner schnitzel since it reminded him of chicken fingers, so many beautiful spacious parks and playgrounds to run around and play in, the children's museum at the Schonbrunn palace was cool, many of the museums are amazing there, safe and quite organized compared to other big cities, and excellent varieties of sweets and treats there. We would definitely go back to Vienna again with our son.

Prague is a great place to visit with little kids. They even have an entire island in the river designate entirely to kids. The Honest Guide has made a great video about Prague with kids. Both my goddaughter and her little sister had loved it when we visited Prag. They even enjoyed the long train ride. Especially the little one keeps asking when we will make a journey with a long train ride again.
Stockholm is the best πΈπͺ
Please meet me here π
Your kids maybe but generally kids hate museums. Are super boring. Especially for small kids and also it depends on what the museum has (for example ancient artifacts, sculptures are super boring). If a hotel is near beach or has the room pool outside they prefer to stay there all day on water and play.
London is very criminal and overcrowded, don't know what fun you find for kids, especially if you are with a child tray. Rome is smelly and every corner urine pissed. You lost me with this video.
Tokyo (I'm obviously biased as I live here) – but I noticed that people even though stern and cold with other tourists, they will lighten up if they see kids and older people π Plus it offers so many giveaways for kids and the shops that actually interest them!
Beautiful family, Iβm glad you like Stockholm π
Hey Mark
Just curious about something. In order to vlog in the Netherlands and Europe, do you need any kind of work visa or permit?
I'm sure you don't, just wanted to make sure.
Great tips. I didnt enjoy Madame Tussauds as a kid though. I liked the science museum and the natural history museum. Lots of activities for nerdy kids. Eg dinosaurs.
Dumb list: Paris is very dangerous, food is AWFUL and overpriced, and Barca is full of pickpockets. London looks good but getting dangerous too, just look at list of terrorist attacks. In UK, Bath, Oxford and Edinburgh, and in Spain, better off in South round golden towns like Cordoba, plenty of beaches etc.
How about Hamburg, Germany?
please pleasee do a video like this but for winter travels!
Sir thank you for your good information
