POLAR NIGHT: Life in Constant Arctic Winter Darkness… Surviving in a Van! Shops, Fuel & Tacos

Polar Night is here: 1500 hours with no sun! 2026 Arctic Winter Life in a Van Into the Polar Night. I survived the massive blizzard and snow storm on the arctic border and now I head deeper into the arctic, into the dark polar nights that will last for months. I show my daily life battling the fierce darkness that the polar night bring in my little tiny van life cabin on wheel. The constant show of Northern lights help a lot! It gets cold, it gets dark, it even gets stormy. This is not Svalbard so the polar night arrives later, but it will get darker the further north I go. I show you some more arctic stores and take you shopping for groceries. I get to a lumber yard to get propane, endless tunnels and northern lights guide the way and last but not least, I make Tacos, first tacos in the van actually. And I make the most important meal of the day. Coffee. I am in military zones now so I am careful about filming, but some soldiers on leave spinning circles with their military sivil vehicle I had to get on tape!

Polar nights are here as I head further north, but the cold is already real. Keep in mind my videos are all real, very real, there are no “I survived -71°c blizzard camping in a hot tent” or even worse “I survived -80°c on a bike in a snow storm”. That stuff is not real, but this IS real, this is my life, my experience, so please dont get fooled by all the recent fake -71°c, -72°c, -80°c,-65°c, -82°c, -88°c videos on Youtube!

For female travelers: If you’re wondering—yes, it’s a safe place to camp solo & travel alone for female van travelers. Out here, no one bothers you. The people are kind, and the solitude is next level, even in the middle of town.

Grab a blanket, hit play, and ride out this Arctic storm with me—van life in the harshest winters, off-grid survival style.

Sometimes I wonder if a Truck Camper would be cool so I could get up some of these cool roads to the outlook and arctic towers, let me know about that my American, UK, Canadian & German friends who are building vehicles like that. Overlanding truck? Who knows, but I doubt it!

Part of the brand new 2026 arctic tour series:

Surviving my 4th Arctic Winter of Extreme Van Life. Solo in Hurricanes, Blizzards, Snow Storms & Camping in Extreme Cold Freezing Temperatures.

🎬 Filmed in the Arctic frontier — real storms, real solitude, nothing fake. The frozen lands as they really are.

My van is a Fiat Ducato, FWD with Nokian Hakkapalitta studless Winter Tires. This is the same as a Ram Promaster in America – USA and Canada.

  2. Terrific episode. There's something appealing about the landscape, and the towns, in the dark. The lack of light would have a pretty bad effect on my partners mood, but I don't mind it.
It's amazing to me that people have not only lived north of the Arctic circle for 40-50,000 years, but have thrived. Another testament to human adaptability (though sometimes at a high cost to the world we live in).
Looking forward to the next episode.

    Have a good holiday.

  3. I just want to thank you, as I used to travel the world, but now, after raising my children, I suffer from contamination OCD, so I rarely go anywhere. Your videos make life bearable, as I can travel with you – thank you. I consider myself fortunate, as these days the wonders of technology make virtual travel so realistic. My son put his VR headset on me (after I cleaned it well !!!) and he gave me a 3d tour of the world- incredible! I live in a village in England called Cheadle and I am fortunate to have waterfalls in woods plus other gorgeous scenery within a 10 minute walk of my little house. In winter, just as it gets light, I love to walk in the snow or heavy frost. I force myself to get up really early, as it is at the peak of beauty in these freezing conditions, very first thing in the morning, before people emerge to walk their dogs! If we were neighbours we would be friends, as we have the love of cold climates and cooking in common!! I love Scandinavia my mother-in-law lived in Norway and we visited often when the children were small. Now, I live alone but see my children often -fortunately, like you, I like being on my own. I care for my 88 year old parents who live 3 miles away in the next village. Again, THANK YOU for your incredible videos – you have opened up the world again for so many people. You should be proud to have such an important and positive effect on so many lives I cannot thank you enough my friend. Joanne

  4. Hello my friend, I am currently working my way through this amazing video (making it last😊). But I thought I'd take a moment to wish you a safe and happy Christmas!. Stay warm and pour a coffee for me so I can have a virtual coffee with you!😂. Cheers my man.

  5. Hi Jarl! Beautiful Van rides through the Winter Wonder Land!
64 days without sun is crazy! But YOU have the SUN in your heart – and in the VAN❗

I wish you happy days in the Van

  6. I always enjoy reading your posts. How many days' worth of food do you prepare? Do you have emergency food supplies just in case? If so, please let me know.

  7. I find it amazing that ur bananas are the same cost as ours pretty much, and we grow bananas just up the road…. Your supermarkets – so close to arctic circle in dead of winter, have an amazing variety of produce for about the same price as we have. Crazy world …

  8. Hallo Jarl🤗🤗

  9. Absolutely loved this one.. best time of the day for me is bedtime lighting my candle with my husky next to me.. its unbelievably cosy watching you in your van.. think all us people feel like we are taking the adventure with you.. Merry Christmas!..

  10. I am sitting in my Airbnb cabin in the mountains watching this glorious video. This has to be one of your best, Jarl. Mountain after mountain, the stark beauty of the vast artic winter and the Christmas lights on the houses…just WOW! Thank you for your stellar videography and for sharing so much with us. Have a very blessed Christmas, my friend.❤🎄

  11. Get an automatic bread maker. I got one for my father. He loves it. He doesn't go to the supermarket daily. So on those cold winter days, he stays home. He sets the breadmaker overnight and in the morning, he has fresh bread.
