I’ve come to San Sebastián, Donostia, in Spain’s Basque Country! It’s an autonomous region in northern Spain close to the border with France. Although part of Spain, the Basque people have a uique history, language and culture that goes back thousands of years. San Sebastián is world renowned for its food scene, especially its pintxos, and the Basque Country is often said to have the best cuisine in the world. I’m exploring this region for the first time and delving into Basque history, culture and food, to see what makes this part of Spain so unique. I go on a pintxo bar hopping crawl to taste these delicious snack sized dishes that are synonymous with San Sebastián, and then hang out at the famous La Concha beach before travelling to nearby coastal towns like Zarautz and Getaria to try some iconic Basque products like txakoli wine, Idiazabal cheese and lunch at a Basque cider house for the famous txuleta steak. The region surrounding San Sebastián is dotted with vineyards, farms and cider houses where you can learn so much about the produce and enjoy amazing views of the Cantabrian sea! I also visit the fishing village of Getaria which is known for its outdoor grills which prepare fresh dish, it’s fresh and delicious! I am lucky to be invited to a txoko, a private gastronomic society started by men which has been going strong for hundreds of years, it’s a special insight into the Basque culture and respect for tradition! I end my trip with fireworks on the beach as it’s Semana Grande in San Sebastián, a week of parties and events!

  1. What do you mean that I can't believe this is Spain? Spain is a very varied country both in weather and in landscapes and customs … to start the north everything is green and eat wonderfully. Will you understand??? Do not pretend to look like other parts are worst… because you would be lying.

  2. The old part of San Sebastián has become a tourist area ,most Pintxos are made in factories and then sold in the bars, locals avoid it for the most part Unfortunate because it was delightful, my wife’s home town so we spend several months each year there but also avoid La parte viejo

  3. One of my good tennis buddy friends was born and raised in San Sebastian and he is always saying that when I visit there, I won’t want to leave. Your video is beautiful. I will be seeing this remarkable town soon. I am looking forward to telling Miguel about my trip. Thank you for this video.

  4. Your buddy is a straight douche bag., Mustache and all. And how can he make comments about religion in a place like St Sebastian where so many people go on pilgrimage. By the way, didn’t hear anything mentioned about that which is what this city is most known for. Had to fast forward through the first part of the video, dude was horrible.

  5. My father's family is of Basque descent. In fact, my great, great uncle was the first governor of New Mexico. Seeing this video makes me swell up with pride. Thank you Malini! San Sebastian here I come.

  6. That interesting as a Puertorican we call it "pincho" too but we put only pork on the stick or chicken on the stick. Also we eat that with garlic bread.

  7. ⁉️I know this is a broad question depending on country/locations, but not counting main air flight to Europe, what was the average price per person on these itineraries?? ❓

  8. Three years in, and it still feels like I just moved in.
Waking up to the breathtaking beach views, indulging in food that’s unmatched anywhere else in Spain, and soaking in the beauty of this city—it never gets old.
The people here are warm and welcoming, and I feel truly at home.
I’m lucky to be married to a local, and I can honestly say: they are some of the kindest, most beautiful souls you’ll ever meet.

  9. I remember being in San Sabastian years ago after going to the San Fermin Festival.
It was during a stressful period in my life. I thought “this would be a great place to run away to and disappear. Nobody would ever know where to look for me.”

  10. Hello i think i have the attention of that ship over there i could lower this platform and get us down there hold tight until i get this platform back up
