You’re Missing Out If You Skip This German Christmas Market! | Stuttgart, Germany

Stuttgart surprised us in the best possible way at Christmas. Not only is the main Christmas market beautiful and full of festive German traditions, but the city also has these unexpected pockets of magic, like the cozy Finnish Christmas market with its warm fires, hearty food, and winter cabin feel. We also spent time browsing the one-of-a-kind resale and antique stalls, finding treasures and little pieces of history that made the experience feel even more personal and memorable. While Stuttgart wasn’t originally on our European Christmas itinerary, we’re so glad we made the stop in to see what makes this city special at Christmas time.

  1. Hygge- pronounced as Hugh-gah, btw. Ahhh that warm wine looks so good, if only I could drink it! That is cheaper than you’d pay here. Good point.

Sara- you have to go to Finland and tie it into a trip through the Fjords jn Norway. I’d love how you’d film that. Maybe that could be a future group trip, esp if you threw in Amsterdam/NL.

  2. Without data i would have thought that Nürnberg is the most visited Christmas Market in Germany, München as a city is famous but it has a lot of different Christmas Markets and not that one single prominent one.

  3. Been there. Done that. Loved it! Spent plenty of my free weekends in that area just sipping coffee and people watching. BTW- hope you tried some of the local gin. They are delicious!

  4. i randomly stumbled across your xmas market series in germany. makes me happy to see you had such a blast on our christmas markets.
best wishes and happy holidays from germany 🙂

edit: on the subject of the costs… of course you pay extra on christmas markets or events like the oktoberfest. not only because the vendors there have to pay a boatload of rent to even be there but they also make a living off of their sellings. and with the economy struggling, less and less people even buy stuff at christmas markets. most people are coming for the vibe, take a look at many things, maybe get a drink or two, something to eat and leave.. i'd say its super rare that a single person spends more than 20 bucks on a christmas market these days

  5. As a F1 fan who camped near some Finnish people in Indy for the F1 race. The Finns are some of the most fun people to hang out with. They'll hang out late into the night around a fire with drinks and some singing but are also early to get up and make it into the track. I had a cube neighbor in Alpharetta who was from Finland again great to hang out with. Fun times. Love this series of videos.

  6. In Germany you find thousands of christmas markets. Every town an city have a christmas market. Some last only one or two days. There are very much hidden gems outside the major cities.

  7. Nice video. The pyramid is for sure not from her parents 😉. If it's really original it should be handmade from the Erzgebirge if not it's from China.
There is traditionally a strong connection between Finland and Germany. The Hamburger Fischbrötchen was for sure very original. The Flammlachs is a bit a generic thing and you find it on other Christmas markets. Glögg and Glögi is very Scandinavian, but I like the Glühwein more.

  8. Sorry if I have to correct you, but the Cologne Christmas market at the cathedral, with 5 million visitors, is the most visited market, far ahead of Stuttgart, Vienna or Strasbourg. And you're right, there isn't one best Christmas market, as tastes vary, and Germany alone offers a selection of over 7,000 markets, from small to huge. (The source of these figures is the German Showmen's Association,Schaustellerverband)
