Denver to Vail Colorado – Winter Scenic Road Trip Through the Rockies 4K

Experience the dramatic climb into the heart of the Rocky Mountains with this 4K scenic driving tour from Denver to Vail, Colorado. Spanning roughly 100 miles of Interstate 70, this route traverses some of the most impressive mountain terrain and engineering marvels in the United States.

A Highway Through the Clouds
The journey along I-70 is a relatively modern chapter in Colorado’s history, replacing the treacherous wagon trails and narrow passes of the 19th century:

The Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnel: This is the centerpiece of the drive. Completed in two stages (1973 and 1979), it allows travelers to bypass the steep grades and unpredictable weather of Loveland Pass. At over 11,000 feet, it is one of the highest vehicular tunnels in the world and serves as a vital artery for crossing the Continental Divide.

Engineering the “Gap”: Before I-70 was completed in the 1970s, travelers had to use much slower, winding roads. The highway was designed to facilitate the rapid expansion of the Colorado ski industry, directly linking the “Mile High City” to the world-class resorts of the Western Slope.

Vail’s Strategic Location: We descend into the Vail Valley, an area that remained a quiet sheep ranching region until 1962. Co-founder Pete Seibert, a veteran of the 10th Mountain Division, chose this specific location for its massive “Back Bowls,” transforming a hidden valley into North America’s premier ski destination in just a few decades.

Join us for this 2026 perspective as we navigate the “Floyd Hill” descent, pass through the historic mining towns of Idaho Springs and Silver Plume, and arrive in the European-inspired village of Vail.

  1. For what its worth it used to go up to 🦬 buffalo bills grave. Of to the right. With a 500 power telescope and spy on Denver. You could see the coors factory.

  2. Your subtitle locations are way out of sync with the video. Passing Morrison when your're in Denver…and you never actually pass Morrison on this drive.

  3. I really enjoyed watching the wonderful video. It's my dream to visit Colorado in the middle of winter when it's snowing, and seeing it in this video makes me want to go even more.

  4. Its crazy how little snow we have this year. This whole drive should have been snow. One of the worst snowpack starts we've ever had. Lets hope we make up for it this spring
