I Visited the OLDEST City in Western Europe (Cadiz, Spain)

I spent the day exploring Cadiz, the oldest city in Western Europe, and I was completely blown away. I made the most of my day and fit in as much as I could see and do, from climbing the cathedral bell tower and wandering ancient Roman ruins to trying world-famous tuna at the central market, strolling through gorgeous parks, relaxing on La Caleta beach, and walking out to a castle on the edge of the Atlantic. Cadiz has layers of history around every corner and a laid-back vibe I wasn’t expecting. I really loved it!

Do you have recommendations for other historic European cities or other stops in Spain I should visit? Leave a comment and let me know. I would love to hear them!

  1. I’ve been to Cadiz a few times. Every-time I go I love to see the oranges on the trees, and the parquets. I am going twice more this year. Although my favourite is Valencia.

  2. Hello Cara and Happy belated new year 2026 🎉to you! Cadiz Spain looks so beautiful and incredible here in Europe! Thanks for sharing and best wishes to you in this new year!

  3. Cara i hope your first Christmas and New Year as a single lady were good. It`s a strange feeling i know as someone who did it a few years back.
Your bravery as a solo lady traveller always amazes me and i look forward to watching your continued travels through 2026.

  4. I'm going to Cadiz (and Seville) in around 10 days time so this was the perfect appetiser for my visit. The plants at 14.45 are agaves (there are numerous types). They're originally native to Mexico and the south western states of the US, so you've almost certainly seen them before.

  5. Great video.

I really admire you for going on holiday on your own. As a single person in my 60’s it’s something I couldn’t do.

I also admire you for doing this on a really hot day. I suffer really badly from summer SAD & hate hot weather.

  6. Lovely to see your video pop up and hope you are doing well? Thank you for bringing a sunny taste of this region of Spain into out homes, especially on a miserably dull, very wet Winter's day here in NW England. Have a good 2026 and happy travels…oh and come back and see us in the UK!

  7. Not just topless, you did not look close enough. You can take an American tourist out of America but cannot take the America out of the tourist, Walking around with a water bottle and drinking from it, you've been in Europe enough times to know it is not done.

  8. En esa costa transcurrió la batalla de Trafalgar. Bahía de Cádiz.
Visita Jerez de la Frontera, tierra del Xerry, y de los caballos españoles en su Escuela Clasica de Equitación.
