My First White Christmas in the Austrian Alps | Innsbruck Winter Travel Documentary
What does it feel like to experience your first white Christmas? Not at a resort. Not with a tour group. Just you, a small Austrian village, and the Alps in winter.
I spent Christmas weekend in Götzens, a quiet village near Innsbruck in the Austrian Alps. This isn’t a “10 things to do” guide. This is what happens when you actually slow down – walking alone through snow-covered foothills, taking cable cars to mountain summits, eating schnitzel that resets your understanding of Austrian food, and being welcomed into a local village restaurant where tourists don’t usually go.
This 28-minute travel documentary covers my journey from London to the Austrian Alps, including Innsbruck’s cable car system, the mountain restaurant at Nordkette, exploring Old Town Innsbruck, a day trip to Kühtai ski resort, and what it’s really like to travel solo during the holidays.
If you’ve graduated from checklist tourism and want to see what slow, intentional travel actually looks like, this is for you.
🗺️ LOCATIONS FEATURED:
– Götzens Village (my home base) – Small alpine village 15km from Innsbruck
– Innsbruck Nordkette Cable Car – Three stages to 2,256m summit
– Innsbruck Old Town – Historic center, traditional restaurants
– Kühtai – Austria’s highest ski resort village (2,020m)
– Vaya Hotel Kühtai – Where I had the best schnitzel of my life
🎬 ABOUT THIS FILM:
This is part of my transition from 9 years as an insurance broker in London to founding Nomad Wanders Collection – a boutique travel company built on the belief that the best trips happen when you travel slower and feel deeper. This film is proof of concept.

📍 If you're planning your own Innsbruck winter trip, here's what I learned:
*1. Stay in a village, not the city.* Götzens gave me the authentic Austrian experience that Innsbruck city center wouldn't have. 15-minute drive, completely different vibe.
*2. The Nordkette cable car is non-negotiable.* Even if you don't ski. The views alone justify the ticket price.
*3. That schnitzel at Vaya Hotel Kühtai?* Genuinely life-changing. Not hyperbole.
*4. Don't skip the local restaurants in small villages.* The best experiences happened when I sat at a bar and just talked to people.
*5. 28 minutes feels long for YouTube, but this trip deserved more than a 10-minute highlight reel.* If you made it this far, thank you for giving slow content a chance.
