Sierras in Silence: A 22-day John Muir Trail Journey

In September of 2025, my spouse and I backpacked the unforgettable John Muir Trail (JMT), starting in the Tuolumne Meadows of Yosemite Valley and culminating at the 14,505-foot summit of Mount Whitney. This trip heading south through the Sierra Nevada mountains went through three national parks: Yosemite, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia, and crossed 10 tall mountain passes. The vibrant sunrises and the soft alpenglow to starlit nights and shimmering waterfalls in the Inyo National Forest, the Ansel Adams Wilderness, and the John Muir Wilderness were breathtaking.

Over the course of our 247-mile trek, we took side trips for resupplies and even replaced a broken shoe. Across 22 days, we experienced endless mountain vistas, sore muscles, challenging weather, and an overwhelming sense of awe that affirmed the Sierra Nevada is truly a paradise on Earth @HikerAakanksha
