In this video, we begin our walking tour near Johannisburg Castle, one of Germany’s most important Renaissance palaces, rising above the Main River.

We explore the old town with its cobblestone streets and half-timbered houses, centered around St. Peter and Alexander Church with its distinctive twin towers.

Our walk also takes us to “Schöntal Park”, an English-style garden with old trees, ponds, and the ruins of a former church.

Locals call Aschaffenburg “Bavaria’s Niece” as King Ludwig the first of Bavaria was captivated by its mild climate, Mediterranean flair, and beautiful riverside setting.
