Italy’s Most Well Preserved Castle
One of Italy’s best preserved castles is the Scaligero Castle in Sirmione. On the waters of Lake Garda, it was built in the 14th century, likely on top of ancient roman ruins, by the powerful Della Scala family of Verona. This medieval lake fortress was later controlled by the Republic of Venice.
