Why We Changed Our 2026 Travel Plans

Ep.189 When we started planning 2026, everything worked on paper. But the more we looked at it, the more we realized we were about to travel in a way that didn’t feel like us anymore. In this video, we share WHY we changed our 2026 travel plans, where we slowed down, where we went big, and what we deliberately chose not to do. This isn’t a list of destinations; it’s how we think about time, movement, and meaning as full-time travelers. If you’re planning a long trip or trying to travel with more intention, we hope this gives you a new way to think about shaping your own year.

  1. We just spent this past December in Sri Lanka, we rented a villa with pool outside of Galle , by a 15 minute tuk tuk ride.
just a heads up. The air quality is not good. everybody burns their personl trash and there are mini fires along the roads. I Counted only four days of blue sky in 33 days. The rain is minimal there that time of year.
it is primarily a Muslim country so the xmas decor is thin. We enjoyed our time there, we had a housekeeper and a cook full-time, Which made all the difference in the world for us. The biggest stress we had during our time in Sri Lanka was negotiating with the tuk tuk drivers! šŸ˜‚ we called them the tuk tuk kartel! Have fun!

  2. I’m Australian but love New Zealand. It’s such a beautiful country with such friendly people. I love Japan too. I can’t wait to go back and explore the quieter places.

  3. Interesting video! Bangkok is my most favourite city! šŸŽ‰ I spent 11 days in Victoria Falls last year. So wonderful, and I really loved the day trip to Chobe in Botswana, totally amazing! You get to see White Rhino in the Zambia Side of the Falls. I stayed at N1 in Victoria Falls, which was basic but perfect location in the centre of town.

  4. I travel to Zagreb a couple of years ago on a three week trip through Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro. This was our second trip. I was surprised how lovely Zagreb is. I would highly recommend Plitvica Lakes National Park . It is fairly close to Zagreb. It was gorgeous.

  5. Budapest is amazing!!! So much to see and do. We are going to be there again around april 22nd if you are there we would love to see you and say quick hello. All the very best. Jeff and karina

  6. just caught this episode and was wondering what 11 days you are going to be in Ohrid.? We are there a month in June ( june 4 -July 4) Hope you are there during that time as we would love to meet you ! Hope we can have a coffee and chat!

  7. I really enjoy watching your videos. You are both very honest and articulate and oh, inspiring. You still have a huge itinerary for 2026. Way more than I could keep up with. We don't plan to be full time travelers. But we sure love hearing your perspectives on various cities and countries and we hope to visit some of them such as Vietnam ( Hoi An and Hanoi) and Turkiye and Rwanda. I would so love to do a gorilla trek. I love forward to your African postings. Good for you for doing a pivot and trimming your plans. Happy Trails. And give yourselves permission to alter your plans once again if need be

  8. sounds like an exciting year!! all I have planned so far is Bosnia & Herzegovina, but thinking about southeast Asia towards the end of the year. Looking forward to your vids this year!

  9. It’s going to be quite a year for you two. I’m jealous. Happily, I’m heading to India in mid-February for 16 days. I’ll be eager to see your videos from Africa. I went last year to Cape Town and Zimbabwe/Zambia for Victoria Falls. I loved it all…Cape Town is an absolute gem. And, of course, Victoria Falls is an absolute natural wonder of the world.

  10. I'm going to be in Ljubljana this coming March. I have an Airbnb for the month. My plan is to take in the city and also use it as a base. My object is two-fold: I've had a personal project for over a decade to visit at least one new country per year, and I've not been to Slovenia; and a longer-than-typical-vacation stay is to get a taste of how it feels to live there briefly. I did something similar in Porto in early 2025.

I'm very near to my 61st birthday, my full-time job ended a year ago, and I'm adjusting to the idea of semi-retirement and maybe spending a fair amount of time abroad.

  11. Taking care of your health is important. We just went on our first cruise and it was like the running of the bulls at the buffet. We were really surprised at the physical size of the average cruiser and the lack of activity and quantity of food the average cruiser consumes. Eat less, eat healthy, limit sun exposure and stay active.

  12. Thank you for sharing your plans! I noticed that you visit different continents every year but in a short period of time. I am curious why don’t you stay longer in Europe or Asia? Is it because you following a good weather?

  13. wow what a year! were semi retired here so cannot do all that you guys are but hopefully at some point we will add more travels…we actually slowly are, as our kids are up and out and again were semi retired..last i messaged you, i had watched you morocco videos etc ..and we went to Morocco for 3 weeks with some friends..amazing trip..loved it , the country the people etc! .Then my husband and i went to London for a week( ive never been and he used to work there)..as we were on the east coast visiting our family and friends for all the holidays…another fabulous trip…next up…planning northern spain but we donot have that amount of time…we can do about 19 days..flying in and out of Barcelona…(ive been there he has not)…tips? suggestions…etc?

  14. While you are in Ljubljana, if you like bakeries, you have to go to this place! "Brot Pekarna" ….. It's not far from the dragon bridge but a bit out of the tourist are. I particularly liked the almond pastry, but EVERYTHING is made from scratch. (I ran a bakery many years ago, you won't be disappointed I promise). If you're not happy I'll pay for your pastries. 😁

  15. It's a shame you will miss out on Cappadocia – it was the real highlight of my 2 weeks in Turkiye a few years ago (top 5 places I have been & I have done a lot of world travel). We stayed in a hotel with the rooms carved into the caves & wnet on a sunrise hot air ballooning trip which takes your breath away. If you can I would drop some time from Istanbul and fly to Cappadocia if you can't fit it in your first leg in Turkiye. Selcuk was lovely but doesn't need a week even with visiting Ephesus.

  16. You have an excellent plan for 2026. Coincidentally, I'll also be in Ljubljana with my girlfriend on April 9th and 10th, and in Zagreb onĀ
April 11th, so if you're in either city on those dates, I'd be happy to meet you and have a chat. Thank you for your videos!

  17. Lots of places you are going that we have on our spreadsheet, but mostly the timing doesn't match. Selcuk might be a match though, plus we plan on starting 2027 in India. Currently we are enjoying our time in Nelson, NZ, and grateful we are missing the frigid cold we left behind in Pennsylvania when we launched in mid-January. Will check out Voyage Vault.

  18. We are currently in Georgetown, Penang for a month. The mix of cultures living together in harmony and the history is fascinating to me. This is our second time here but our first long stay. We love it here. We find people very relaxed and friendly and even made local friends here who keep life interesting. We also really don’t mind downtime, so if we do nothing on some days, that is great.

We will be in Cape Town when you are but a much shorter stay, 5 days before heading off to safari on the Eastern Cape. We may be pressed for time in Cape Town, especially after such long travel but you never know. Maybe we will have time to connect.

  19. Congratulations on the great work you are doing! I really enjoy your videos and appreciate the effort and research you put into your content. I would like to respectfully point out a clarification regarding your recent video, where the country was referred to as ā€œMacedonia.ā€ The official and internationally recognized name of the country is ā€œNorth Macedonia,ā€ following the Prespa Agreement of 2018. Using the correct name is important not only for legal and diplomatic accuracy, but also to distinguish it clearly from the region of Macedonia in northern Greece, which is an integral part of Greek history and identity. I understand this may have been an unintentional oversight, and I simply wanted to bring it to your attention to help ensure accuracy in future references. Thank you for your time and consideration!

  20. Wow. You guys do.such a great job. We really enjoy your practical approach to travel. He have visited my countries of europe, but are going to hit morocco in april. Love to here where you stayed in fez. We are going to make that our base for a week and tour there !! Love to hear what area in fez you stayed!
