Chapter 7 – Exploring an Abandoned Sulfur Mine Town in Greece (Milos Island)

Part 7 of our Greece adventure — our final days on Milos before catching the ferry
to Santorini.
After the Poseidon boathouse experience (ants, no sleep, sea battering the door),
we needed somewhere calmer. Found a decent hotel for £64, explored an abandoned
sulfur mine town, discovered Freddo Espresso (new favourite drink), and finally
caught the €9.60 five-hour ferry to Santorini.
The wind was still horrible — boats from Mykonos got cancelled — but we made the
best of it.

■ TRAVEL INFO
Budget ferry tip: Milos to Santorini can cost as little as €9.60 for a 5-hour
journey. Book deck seats.
The west part of Milos (Kleftiko area) is uninhabited with rough terrain and
reportedly has vipers — hire car damage risk is high.
Freddo Espresso — try it. Game changer.
Petrol stations in Greece often have full service like Kenya — just pull in, they
fill it up, pay without leaving the car.
