Hey all, I’m at Schiphol right now and I’ve seen multiple small mice running around the seating / gate area (added a couple of pics).
Is this something “normal” here (winter + food areas), or should I report it to airport staff?
Not trying to start drama, just honestly surprised by how many I’ve seen.

    Major problem in Frankfurt too.

    >should I report it to airport staff

I’m pretty sure they already know, don’t you think?

  2. Large building that is very open to the outside, with food around and a lack of predators combine to make mouse heaven.

  3. You’d be surprised, most of the major airports have massive mice problems. I see a few every time I’m in quieter terminals / gates in Heathrow

  4. I remember seeing one of Simon Wilson’s first vlogs where he goes no money from Amsterdam to Barcelona. He said he couldn’t sleep in schiphol due to the mice!

  5. Was leaving there one night at 1 am, place was mostly shut down and all the lights off. We watched a mouse have the time of his life running around eating crumbs for 20 minutes through the window. Adorable

When the weather is bad outside animals will find a way in especially when they can squeeze under doors

    Every airport has mice.

Every human building that contains thousands of people and dozens of eateries with basement storage rooms has mice.

Yeah there are a lot of them. I worked in the HEMA take away shop (before security) years ago and while there were a lot of mice everywhere, they never got into the shops. We worked very hard to keep everything clean and food closed off though. Cannot speak for other restaurants but the amount of mice does not equal the dirtiness of the restaurants.

How do you think they get around the world lol it does get on my nerves when they get upgraded before me

  10. I took a picture of mouse at Schiphol a few months ago and sent it my wife expressing disappointment that it neither had clogs on, nor was it going clip clippety clop on the stair.

  11. This is why you need airport hawks: to handle the rat and uncontrolled toddler populations

Of course it’s normal. How else are the mice supposed to go on vacation? They can’t walk & swim to Aruba.

  13. People wonder why there are so many cats in places like bars, restaurants, shops & cafes in Amsterdam- and this is why!

  14. I stayed at a hotel in the city. During the night I went to the bathroom but the door wouldn’t latch closed. I kept trying but I gave up because it was dark and I needed to pee. In the morning, I found out there was a mouse wedged in the crack and I had accidentally squished it to death.

I saw dozens of mice in the Boston airport one night. We were late for a connecting flight and there were a lot of us. They held the flight. Dozens of mice came from the vents while we were waiting😭they were like a cleaning crew eating all the food people had dropped.

  16. Yes, in cold weather mice like to travel to tropical locations much like their human counterparts. /s

Once I was in Schiphol at 3am. Place was eirily quiet given the hour with all shops closed. I’m sitting on a bench looking out at the terminal wishing I could get a beer because I had to wait until 7am to return to Saudi. The number of huge rats running around in and out of food kiosks and restaurants was incredible.

I know this. I will never eat another meal at AMS as long as I live ✌️
