The Vesunna Gallo-Roman Museum is a museum of Gallo-Roman art and archaeology in the town of Périgueux, located in the French department of the Dordogne. The Gallo-Roman ruins are covered by a glass display that was constructed to protect a historical monument of France. These video shows the very wide variety of roman relicts on display at this marvellous place.
Vesunna was a Celtic goddess worshipped in Roman Gaul. She was likely considered a giver of prosperity, abundance and good fortune, as evidenced by the cornucopia she is depicted carrying in her images.
Vesunna was also once the name of a town just south of the modern French city of Périgueux, where the goddess had a temple in ancient times; she was certainly the patron goddess of this city and its people and thus a protector.
In inscriptions found in Périgueux, Vesunna is identified with the Roman guardian goddess Tutela. Vesunna received votive and dedicatory offerings from her worshippers; otherwise little is known of the specifics of her cult. She had a temple in the city that bore her name. Vesunna was worshipped especially by the Gaulish Celtic tribe known as the Petrocorii, whose name survives in that of the modern French city of Périgueux, located just north of her great temple.
This visit was made in the summer of 2017 and starts with shots of the famous Tower of Vessuna which is a vestige of a former temple dating from the 1st and second centuries AD dedicated to Godess Vessuna. It is accompanied by ‘Legio V Macedonica’ performed by Farya Faraji.

Dans des inscriptions trouvées à Périgueux, Vesunna est identifiée avec la déesse romaine tutélaire Tutela. Vesunna recevait des offrandes votives et dédiatoires de ses fidèles ; sinon, peu de choses sont connues sur les spécificités de son culte. Elle possédait un temple dans la ville qui portait son nom. Vesunna était particulièrement vénérée par la tribu celtique gauloise connue sous le nom de Petrocorii, dont le nom survit dans celui de la ville française moderne de Périgueux, située juste au nord de son grand temple.
Cette visite a eu lieu à l’été 2017 et commence par des plans de la célèbre tour, vestige d’un ancien temple ‘La tour de Vésone’ (datant du Ier et IIe siècles après J.-C. dédié à la déesse Vesunna. Elle est accompagnée par ‘Legio V Macedonica’ interprétée par Farya Faraji.
