But everything shifted when I spent five slow days in one small town on the west coast of France with my young son and my wife’s parents. We rented bikes. We lingered over long lunches at French cafés. We walked along white sand beaches. And we were simply present as a family.

During that trip, I realized something I wish I had understood sooner.
