    Milford Sound, New Zealand — photos don’t even come close to how powerful this place feels

    I finally experienced Milford Sound and I understand why people call it one of the most beautiful places in the world.

    The waterfalls were massive, the air felt unreal, and the scale of the mountains makes you feel tiny in the best way.

      South Island, over all, is ridiculously beautiful and the best money I’ve spent visiting any place.

      I’m a cartographer and have placed Milford Sound on New Zealand maps many times, but have never actually seen it. Wow! So beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

      Ah – New Zealand, South Island!

      I went there on my honeymoon a couple of decades ago. Started in Christchurch and drove clockwise round it in two weeks.

      It doesn’t matter how familiar you are with the landscape – and you will be because of Lord Of The Rings. It’s jaw droppingly beautiful everywhere. I had to pull over a few times because I was so entranced by what I was seeing while driving. There is a constant mountain view wherever you go that never stops being awesome.

      Milford Sound is incredible. The scale and beauty of it are difficult to describe. There are so many waterfalls to see, plus you go past the inlet to the ocean beyond. It’s the kind of place where you lose cynicism. You are seeing nature in one of its most perfect forms and you have no choice but to accept and embrace it with gratitude.

      I will forever be grateful that I got to see it.

      Looks like Milford Sound is the original influencer. Nature’s flex on social media filtered out all the nonsense and just kept the epicness. You can’t capture feeling small next to something that massive, right?

      I was there not long ago and you’re right, pictures do not do this place justice. The scale alone is so hard to capture. Absolutely incredible experience. We were lucky to have a whole pod of dolphins swim around near our boat when I was there. Never seen anything like it and would go back in a heartbeat if I could.

      Milford sound was one of the most beautiful places we saw on our trip to New Zealand too, although the whole of South Island is ridiculously beautiful.

      I went when I lived there briefly back in 2017! I was living in Wellington but spent about a week before I came back to the US just hopping around the South Island. I remember getting back to my hostel that evening and just crying a little because I hadn’t ever really experienced anything like it before.

      Is that **3** waterfalls I see? Did you happen to see an American girl anywhere around there? Possibly with nosebleed and/or Strange Things happening around her?
