Hi all, looking for thoughts and advice on my upcoming tent purchase. I love to camp with my child who keeps growing and has a lot of energy. Now I’m looking to upgrade us from my old backcountry tent. What I am looking for is a tent for 2-4 people (me, child, dog), that also has an attached screen room or additional room of some sort (but is separate/can be closed from main tent and is easy and quickly for me (female) to pitch on my own (re: need to keep tabs on kid and dog).

I have been mulling over the Gazelle T3 with the tandem hub but it just seems so damn big. I wish the hub were half the size. Link below.

I am now considering the Coleman Skydome with screen room. My main concern with this if it rains, the rain fly doesn’t cover the screen room, I can’t tell if the screen room even zips. So everything is wet? Link below.

Hoping this sub can help me figure out my best option, maybe one that I am not considering?

  1. Have the Skydome, I’ve used it the last two summers with my son. It’s plenty big and easy to set (Male 6’2″ for context, but there’s not really anything about it that would make it harder for a shorter person to setup). That Gazelle tent looks super nice though.

  2. I have the 6 man Coleman version, if it rains your stuff in the screened in porch will get wet. The awning doesn’t fully cover it.

It is pretty easy to set up.

The pop-up one looks nice if you’ve got the budget.
