Scotland’s STUNNING Remote Islands

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿This week we’re off to Lewis & Harris in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. While the name makes it sound like two different islands, Lewis & Harris is actually one singular island divided by a mountain range. We spent one week exploring the island and getting a taste of the remote, rugged beauty of the Outer Hebrides. From crazy winds that cancelled our ferry back to the mainland two days in a row, to stone circles older than Stone Henge and beaches with water as blue as the Caribbean. Lewis & Harris was incredible and we’re so excited to share a taste of the island with you today!

  1. You can't change how things were. The past was inhabited by people with different perspectives. Think of the American indians and their cultural extermination. And slavery..many nations participated and became rich, including African nations. The UK was instrumental in ending slavery World wide. So enjoy the castle built on the opium trade. Great video, and you're a lovely couple. Cheers !

  2. Hi Chris & Sara my name is Adrian and im from the Isle of Wight and I love your traveling videos and I hope when u arrive back to England u should come to the Isle of Wight southern part of England over the Solent from Southampton and Portsmouth but to come over to the Isle of Wight there’s 2 ways to get the car ferry or go by foot passenger on the hovercraft at Southsea in near Portsmouth to the island and visit Osborne house in east cowes where queen Victoria and her husband and their kids lived and also visit the needles in alum bay and see other places to see on the island and when u go back to the mainland after seeing Isle of Wight u should visit Dorset, Cornwall and St Michael’s mount in the south eastern of England I hope I gave u ideas for your travelling ideas and Enjoy Great Britain with your camper van and your cute dog

  3. I totally agree with all the wonderful comments below. We visited Lewis in 2022 and for 3 nights stayed just two BLOCKS from the Callanish Stones. We lucked out with the weather – no wind and blue skies. After doing a circle road trip around Scotland in 2022 we wanted to return to the OH and take 10 days driving from the top to the bottom. We will be doing that in three WEEKS. Your video reminded us why we want to do it so much. Of course, we are returning via Skye, because even after spending five days there in 2022, we needed to revisit our favourite places before fly home to Canada. Thanks!

  4. Brilliant video, I'm also from Tennessee and visited the Outer Hebrides once back in 2015. It blew me away, totally magical experience. As was the Isle of Skye. Such a wonderful part of the world, I sometimes daydream about retiring there.

  5. So glad you got to Huisinis – personally our most treasured location in the UK, and we've certainly been adventurously stuck there on occasion in a motorhome unable to drive the long road back because of the high winds – and hope that you get to come back and trip the Hebridean Way through the rest of the OH.

  6. £20 a night is – we think – great value for Huisinis when you think about it as £10 for the night (and the looked-after faciities there) and the other £10 as going towards the upkeep of all of the other facilities that the North Harris Community Trust provide for free (such as the eagle observatory you went to). There was a chance to give a really important message about visitors giving something back for the ability to enjoy what's there (for free)…these places cost money to look after….same as at Stonehenge, Callanish, etc..

  7. FunFact: Stanley Kubrick, when filming 2001 A Space Odyssey sent an aircraft up to Harris (Loch Airigh area) to film the rocky landscape. It was used with the colours filtered as an otherworldly alien landscape when astronaut Bowman travelled through the Stargate.

  8. I have watched and enjoyed some of your vlogs of here in Scotland and I'm glad the three of you enjoyed and appreciated the experience. Scotland is indeed an amazing place and generally we're a friendly and welcoming lot. Scotland is actually good for the soul {in my view}. Like so many visitors you're quickly enthralled by untouched landscapes and vast areas largely empty of people, and their impact etc, especially in The HIghlands, and these are genuinely beautiful. But that beauty has come at a cost, often overlooked and misunderstood. That cost was the deliberate historic mass eviction and displacement of Scottish population, first forced and much later economically encouraged by the UK government, some to coastal areas but most commonly overseas to America, Canada, and Australia etc. Between 1750 and 1890 it's estimated Scotland lost multiple generations and over 4 million of her people, devastating our, heritage, cuture and potential and largely delivering the landscape you see today. This government policy of deliberate encouragement to leave Scotland continued as late as 1982
Sorry if this comment is a bit of a downer.
Hope we see you back again soon.
    Yours aye,
    Alistair.

  9. Aye…Weather in June wasnt great right enough…
May was brilliant ,July was ok and the last 2 weeks have been roasting…
Dont understand why you are so shocked that Scotland has amazing beaches…….

  10. Did this trip a few years ago; we started on Eriskay and Barra, and then to Uist and Harris and Lewis. I loved the Callanish stones, your drone really shows the cross shape of them. Did you see the smaller groups of stones close by? The Blackhouses, or hear about the Lewis Chessmen?
People made money in many ways back in the day! Opium is probably not so bad as others were at that time – slave trade for example.
    Great programme, thanks both.
