Serious Mountains
My friend and colleague Carter Alan went on a train journey through Switzerland a while ago, and recently expressed a desire to return to the mountains. I’m thinking he might enjoy Mont Blanc and Chamonix, so I put together this slide show for him.
Chamonix, nestled in the shadow of Mont Blanc, is a jaw-dropping alpine wonderland. The towering peaks are so immense they’ll make you feel wonderfully small—standing beneath them is like looking up at the sky’s edge. The sheer scale of Mont Blanc, Western Europe’s highest peak, will have you staring in awe from every angle.
Now, after your mountain gazing, you’ll love refueling with local Savoyard cuisine. Picture bubbling pots of fondue with rich melted cheese, hearty beef dishes, and even tartiflette with potatoes and bacon. Chamonix’s cozy restaurants will have you warmed up and ready for more adventure.
Getting to Chamonix by train is part of the fun—whether you come from Paris or Geneva, the scenic Alpine journey is unforgettable. But the adventure doesn’t stop there. You can ride over the mountains—literally—continuing on to Milan, experiencing the grandeur of the Alps from both sides.
