I’m a solo camper looking for a versatile pot/pan to use over an open campfire. I’m considering a carbon steel wok because of its heat distribution and versatility. Has anyone here tried using a wok for bushcraft or camping? What are your thoughts?

Campfire rarely produces enough consistent btus in a predictable pattern so the thin heat distribution of a wok is a minus.  And wok is kinda bulky.

Most people go with cast iron pans as once you do get enough uneven heat into it, it uses its mass to retain and evenly distribute the heat.

My experience is that carbon steel seasoning is far more finicky than cast iron. If you’re car camping and you’re willing to do extra care for it at home between trips, you might like it. Personally, if weight is not too much of a limitation, I would do cast iron. If weight is a concern, I would just do stainless steel.
