I recently bought a new Nemo sleeping bag (disco 15) and the storage bag it comes with is way smaller than I’m used to. I’m talking 3 to 4 times smaller than storage bags I’ve had for past sleeping bags in this category. Is it OK to compress the down this much for a long-term storage? Banana for scale.

The storage bag that came with mine was much bigger.
Don’t store your bag long term in a compressed state. If it didn’t come with a storage bag you can buy them or use a garbage bag. If using a garbage bag i might put a desiccant pouch in there to handle any excess moisture. You can get a storage bag from Hammock Gear for $10 and rei and others sell them too.
I’m sure that’s fine. Nemo does a ton of testing and probably figured out how small they could go before doing damage. The actual travel stuff sack is probably 1/4 to 1/3 that volume. They have a lifetime guarantee so it’s not a decision they’d leave to chance. In the event you find permanent damage, they’ll replace it.
That’s interesting, the mesh storage bag that Nemo provided for my Forte 20 (3 yrs ago) was way bigger than this. It’s more like this REI storage sack – [https://www.rei.com/product/245460/rei-co-op-sleeping-bag-storage-sack](https://www.rei.com/product/245460/rei-co-op-sleeping-bag-storage-sack)
Down? I would store uncompressed. If it is my $.
If it sits on the shelf in the store for longer than a year, is that compressed long term? It does come like this
Yeah I keep mine in a much larger bag or no bag at all.
That’s the storage bag for when it goes in your pack. Get a big cotton one for long-term storage.
This is fine for down.
