Tropea, Calabria – When a place becomes visible

There are places in Italy that take your breath away before you even arrive.

This week we explore Tropea in Calabria — one of southern Italy’s most iconic coastlines — and reflect on a deeper question:

What happens when Italy gets too famous?

The cliffs are dramatic.
The water is turquoise.
The sunsets are unforgettable.

But when a place becomes visible to the world, its rhythm can shift. Energy changes. Demand rises. Everyday life begins to feel different.

Over the past few weeks we’ve been talking about what happens when places in Italy step into the spotlight — from Puglia’s growing popularity to Matera living in global fame. Tropea continues that conversation.

In this vlog we share:

• The reality of Tropea in peak season
• Space, crowds and everyday movement
• Tourism pricing and seasonal shifts
• Transport and accessibility considerations
• Real estate observations
• And why, for us, Puglia still feels more liveable

This isn’t about which region is “better.”
It’s about understanding rhythm before making decisions — especially if you’re considering buying property in Italy.

Because living somewhere is different to visiting somewhere.

And perhaps the real question isn’t which place is more beautiful…

…but which rhythm feels like home to you?

And maybe before choosing a place, the real conversation is about what life feels like when things quiet down, beyond the summer season.

  1. Tropea looks amazing. Will definitely go and visit and thank you for your tips. We need to have an open mind with people invading our personal space at the beach 🙂as we are not used to that. You guys are living the dream 🙂 So happy for you! xx

  2. There are many beautiful places in Italy and Sicily, but I find Puglia is not only beautiful, but also much easier to get around, which is why I'm so glad we purchased in Puglia and are neighbours! 🙂

  3. My bucket list keeps getting longer after watching your videos, such lovely places , tropea is beautiful but definitely just for a visit . Those onions are amazing , never saw anything like it . Lovely video as always 😊

  4. Ciao ragazzi, yes space on the beach in the south of Italy is a bit of a nightmare. Oh my goodness those onions look amazing 😍, Tropea is absolutely beautiful look at that shoreline and the colour of that sea stunning!! That hike up and down keeps you fit and young , gosh at Ferragosto it is full anywhere in the south unfortunately, great vid as usual you guys rock love you xx

  5. You nailed it. Tropea would be unliveable for us. Definately Puglia. But for us we will never be there in July/ August. Too hot. Too busy. Great video. Very true and informative

  6. Ciao ragazzi! I loved Tropea when I went there as a teenager and then again with mamma in 2011. It's a great place but we weren't "fuori stagione" so that it was quieter. It's lovely but I wouldn't live there. So many gorgeous places by the sea aren't there? Lovely vlog…a presto belli 🥰🤗😘💖

  7. I love Tropea, I’ve been twice and never disappoints.
Agree with you on being overcrowded in peak time. Our first visit there was July and and it was crazy busy but still amazing and lively especially in the evening.
The second time we went May it was so much better not as busy the beach clubs were setup yet so there was so much space along the beach.

My family live only 45mins from Tropea so to me coming from Melbourne Australia that’s pretty doable.

I think it’s better to live in a town just outside of Tropea less expensive and much quieter.

Terrified video that’s for show casing some amazing places in southern Italy. ❤
