2019 Alps Leg 16 Pont en Royans to Col de la Bonnette

Riding the Alps – Grossglockner to Mount Ventoux MC Tour 2019
In the summer of 2019, three riders set out on a serious motorcycle adventure: from Norway to Spain, with one goal – to cross the Alps on two wheels.
This series documents the Alpine leg of that journey, starting at Grossglockner in Austria and continuing through Europe’s most legendary mountain passes. Over the course of one intense week, we ride Passo Giau, Passo Falzarego, Passo Gardena, Stelvio Pass, Passo Bernina, Splügen Pass, Col du petit Bernand, Col de l’Iseran, Col du Télégraphe, Col du Galibier, Col de la Bonette and finish at Mount Ventoux in southern France. In addition to these summits we ride in Vercors amazing national park region.
While the families flew to Malaga, we took the hard way – riding over 2,000 kilometers of mountain roads, hairpin bends, and remote landscapes. This is raw motorcycle touring. No trailers. No shortcuts. Just the road, the ride, and the kind of freedom only found on two wheels.
If you’re planning a motorcycle trip through the Alps or just want to see real riding in some of the best scenery Europe has to offer, you’re in the right place.

Motorcycle Ride – Pont-en-Royans to Col de la Bonette (Alps Tour Leg 16)
Leg 16 takes us from the cliffside charm of Pont-en-Royans deep into southern France, following a network of winding secondary roads that eventually lead us back into the high mountains – and to one of Europe’s highest paved roads, Col de la Bonette.
This is a long and varied riding day, beginning with small mountain roads through quiet valleys, remote villages, and forested ridgelines. Far from the highways and major passes, these roads offer solitude, tight technical turns, and the kind of riding that demands your full attention. It’s slow going at times, but deeply rewarding for those who enjoy the scenic route.
As we head southeast, the terrain begins to climb again, and the vegetation thins out. The final ascent to Col de la Bonette is nothing short of dramatic. Reaching 2,802 meters at its highest point, the road loops around the Cime de la Bonette, offering jaw-dropping views and a sense of true exposure.
This leg is about endurance, exploration, and the joy of discovering hidden routes that eventually lead to the top of the world. If you’re chasing high passes via the road less traveled, this is your stage.
